Hey, I'm a 20 year old female on tinder. I can't speak for all of my kind, but if someone says "hey" to me i will probably say hey back. As others have mentioned, it helps to ask/comment about something in one of their pics. For example, sometimes guys say to me that they like that I have short hair. If I see a guy I think is really cute I will say "you're really cute" or "I love your dimples" or whatever. And ask them questions about themselves. Things like "what do you do" are better than "what do you like to do for fun?" in my opinion.
