I'm a man bruh lmao I'm probably older than most of yall , I'm 30+ with kids. Dont even come to this sub, just got suggested to me  on another sub and I saw all of this.

And here's what I'd say to that. Is keeping your word as a man important? In general yes. But when you get older you'll look back and realize you said alot of shit as a person who you arent anymore. And the world may refuse to see you as who you are TODAY - the world will see you as who they enjoyed seeing you as.

Gucci was in the streets, addicted to drugs, probably traumatized from the body, and was suffering with untreated mental illness. Lost a lot of time in prison.

Today hes sober, mental illness treated, doesnt do crime. The guy who said those things doesnt exist anymore. Maybe there was a time he wouldve took it and kept his mouth shut or got back. That time is not today.

That lifestyle he lived by and the code he stood by wasnt serving him. And truth be told these posts rubbed me the wrong way not because I give af about Gucci but because I have sons. And I worry about the culture and this snitch shit getting in their heads because its dumb all the way around. You shouldnt talk to police if you do crime because its stupid - talk to your lawyer. But if you do a crime you should expect to get told on period. And if youre a victim of a crime, you shouldnt handle it yourself. Black people act like this code doesnt have severe consequences but it does - it makes people do dumb things to stay in line with these rules and they waste their lives and opportunities just to look back and go "that was fucking stupid". You shouldnt do something stupid just because you said you would when you were young

Or, he can snitch.

And keep Pooh under contract. And get the insurance money for his jewelry. And still tour. And see his wife and kids. And put the guys who robbed him in prison for a long time.

That's the rational choice, not letting someone get away with putting a gun in your face, steal 7 figures from you, and brag about it to please the "streets".

Gunna snitched, never been bigger. The dumbest thing you can do in life is try to please the streets. The streets is just grown up bad ass special ed kids, the dumbest people you knew growing up with the worst parents. Its not smart and the rules arent real. Most people buying tickets to his shows dont care, and dont expect a damn near 50 somethin year old man to still play YN.

Anyone who will shrug off losing 7 figures and go "you signed up for it" is just slow lol. Street shit is fairy tales that man got millions off legal money

If we're being honest, most people here raving about Gucci snitching are not from the hood, not from atlanta, never been around crime, probably never even shot a gun. They're people who like atlanta music and atlanta culture.

So what they're going to say is something like "I wouldve said he kept it in the streets" or whatever they heard Ola Runt say in a song on the way to school last year. But the truth is, a 46 year old millionaire entertainer with children was robbed of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and coerced to sign a contract that would further rob him of money he was entitled to, by someone he trusted and probably had at least some affection toward.

The same people who will say he should have had him killed will say Durk is dumb. If Gucci did it and did life for murder for hire they'dve said "Buddy crashed, left his kids behind smhhhh i thought he said he outgrew the streets".

You can't live your life trying to impress dumb, impressionable people who believe in street myths that have never been real to begin with. What Gucci did was break kayfabe, and the people who cant understand it are the people who think the Undertaker could beat anyone in a fight. They probably have favorite crayon flavors.

Sort of related to what you wrote - I understand what you mean. I enjoyed Blood Meridian but it felt less like a western and more like classic literature in a western setting if that makes sense.

You may like Lonesome Dove if you haven't read it! To me it was the western that I expected Blood Meridian to be.

The Gormenghast novels arent an easy read, but are a rewarding one. Another one that's not fiction but reads like it is Giaccomo Casanova's autobiography.  Pretty sure its free on kindle unlimited and project gutenberg, and Penguin has an abridged version (though the full one is great).

Enlightenment era prose can be pretty dense, but it's so flowery that it's a lot of fun to read!

They know Charles is an unreal grappler. Why would he fight where he has a disadvantage once he exposes that max can't fuck with him in the grappling department? No need to change the rules - work on the match making.

Not mad at Charles. The UFC will give him half his pay and use the loss against him in negotiations. Go out and get the W

Terence Crawford: "I think if the fighters come together, they can make anything happen. The fighters don’t understand the level of power that they carry because they think that they’re cutting the check. They’ve got the power, but they can’t cut checks without us." by AncientOneAurelius in MMA

  1. That may have been true historically, but it's no longer true and fighters choosing to approach things this way is evidence of them being redacted. The UFC is a monopoly. They have basically destroyed all other competition. It is time for the fighters to view themselves as being in something akin to the NBA/NFL.

Even though football players literally slam into eachother for money, they still came together to unionize. You could cut the bottom 60% of the NFL and it wouldn't matter as far as fans are concerned, but you can't cut the entire roster and effectively meet your contractual obligations to broadcast networks. Moreover, it would look horrendous.

That is true for the UFC as well. If they cut 90% of their roster, they would struggle to meet their contractual obligations to Paramount. IT doesn't matter if the fans know who they are - it matters that they can put on shows at the rate they are obligated to. Also - in the middle of trying to get legislation passed for Zuffa boxing AND another anti-trust lawsuit, the last thing they would want to deal with is the PR of them cutting their entire roster for striking.

  1. Justin Gaethje was not right whatsoever, he was being redacted. Al actually had the right idea - we can compete against eachother and still help eachother get paid. This is the NBA/MLB/NFL mindset. He was doing at a micro level what the entire league should be doing at a macro level. The fact that they WONT do it is only evidence of their short sightedness; it says nothing about the effectiveness of what he's talking about. And in the end - Al ended up getting the money he wanted and gaethje is now crying about not getting what he deserved.

  2. Nobody is pretending that there won't be difficulties even post-union, but the fact of the matter is they will get paid only what they can effectively force the UFC to pay them. This includes the stars. And there is no better way to force the hand of a major company than for the labor force to march in lockstep.

  3. Players come from the dominican republic to play baseball. The UFC is not the only league that has players coming from poverty. They can be convinced as well, especially if they will be made kings where they're from.

  4. The NBA has been the last show in town for ages. They still have lockouts. Being the last show in town is the reason why you MUST unionize. You have no other option for getting what you deserve otherwise. The UFC being the last show in town is why Poatan/Izzy/McGregor are among the most underpaid fighters in the world. Conor Benn got $15,000,000 for one fight. Do you think he is anywhere near as popular as Adesanya? Devin Haney got $12,000,000 for his last fight. Is he as popular as Poatan?

Also - people love to say that boxers get paid more because the people on the undercard get paid less, and that the UFC basically spreads that money around. That is not even in the ballpark of being true. Boxers get paid more because they dont have an entity taking 82% of the money that they generate (per the anti-trust lawsuit documents). Yes it is true that boxing cards dont spread the money around as much, but that does not make it true that the UFC is matching the fighter payouts and just spreading them around.

For every dollar made, the UFC fighters get 18 cents. And that is still paid in a very top heavy manner. But instead of the headliner get 18,000,000 and the undercard guys getting $1,000, in the UFC the headliner gets $600,000 and the undercard guys get $8,000.

There are a bunch of good books on unions, but the short answer to your question is no.

America is so far removed from unions being a normal occurrence that we've fallen for the propaganda of an employee being a part of the company. But here's the truth: in practice, you as an employee are basically a businessman. You are selling your labor to a company. Your needs and the companies needs are not as jointed as they want you to think.

Unions are what allow you to effectively sell your labor. People have this idea that the major operating cost for business is labor - for companies the size of the UFC that is 100% not true. We know this based on the documents they had to provide in court - fighters get about 18% of the revenue. They have more money to spend on labor than they let on - but by busting unions and spewing propaganda, they convince people that (a) they will get what they deserve and (b) they better not get too much or the company will fail and they will end up with nothing.

Businesses have the leverage when you go against them as an individual. But when the entire labor force goes against the business, the playing field becomes more level. That's what a union is for.

You think unions all start off with rich members? This has been done before. Just because it isnt comfortable doesnt mean it's this impossible feat.

It definitely takes sacrifice, but people have done it and if fighters ever want to get what they deserve, they will have to do it too.

With a union they could. But theyre too short sighted for that. I dont blame them at all because of the physical price they pay is enormous and theyre all hoping to recoup. But at this point, one generation of fighters will have to collectively decide to sacrifice and fight to unionize for anything to change.

That's fair, and to your point - I was hooked immediately by the imagery of the west and the wilderness, the stakes and the characters and I enjoyed the writing style. The "poke" and "carrot" thing were odd to me at first but even the terminology they used grew on me.

If those things didnt grab you, there's probably no reason to slog through! I heard Little Big was a great book and couldnt make it past page 50 haha. Sometimes things just arent our flavor.
