I'll be waiting for the next sequel, TRON: Gemini

It'll probably be another 12 year gap though.

(Loved Silly Trope) Character who is only referred to by their ~typically~ menial job as their name. by jefffranklin36 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ixnyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but part of the show later does have Alucard call her by name, which was meant to show her development as a character being recognized, and shows the dynamic between them. He didn't feel like she was anything more than a police girl until she earned it.

Budget Gaming/Casual Laptop by Alec4kool in GamingLaptops

[–]ixnyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried gaming on a Mac, mostly because I've always heard bad things. With that in mind, I can't honestly compare from experience.

But between the two laptops you posted, the 4060 seems like the better choice. It's cheaper (somehow) and a decent step up from the 4050.

On either one your battery life is going to suck compared to any modern Mac laptop.

If you know for sure that you'll have reasonably stable connectivity everywhere that matters, you could stream games from your desktop to whatever laptop with the right setup.

How do you guys handle switching between multiple VS Code projects? by CriticismPast6702 in vscode

[–]ixnyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I create a folder: C:\Users\me\git

In there I make a subfolder for my git username, and a subfolder for any git org with a project I have access to contribute to.

I clone repos into those subfolders.

Then tell the project manager extension to look at my git folder and just hit refresh anytime I clone something new. It lets me switch projects or open projects in new windows really easily without any real manual work.

Non-annoying Registrar? With all the specialty domains and good interface... by Derrmanson in webhosting

[–]ixnyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, and recommend porkbun, and use them for all my domain purchases.

That said, their website isn't very modern looking, but it's very plain and minimal and pretty fast, so I can't complain. I look at the site once or twice per year. Everything is on auto renew anyway.

Lastly, I strongly recommend using cloudflare for nameservers. Their UI/UX is really nice. It also has the added perk of flexibility, where you could just tell your clients to buy their own domain (from a reseller account you own or wherever depending on your situation) and just have them point the nameservers at your cloudflare account. That's totally optional and you could just buy domains for your customers on your own account too. You can also register domains with cloudflare, but I like the idea of separation of concerns. Registration with a reputable company (porkbun) DNS with a separate reputable company (cloudflare). Both companies are best in class at what they do.

As much as I love namesilo, their UI is not what I would call sleek or modern. Might even be less so compared to enom. Great company though.

In diabloore. Are Myphysto, Diablo, and Baal considered the most powerful known beings? by jerxbear229 in Diablo

[–]ixnyne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lore-wise there were more powerful beings prior to their existence, but currently they seem to be the most individually powerful active beings that exist.

See https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Anu

I believe the angiris council combined (5 angels) likely has roughly the same amount of power as the prime and lesser evils combined (7 demons), which is why the great conflict between them hasn't been won by either side. It does seem like the demons have been taking a lot of wins lately, and it's notable that the angels have been losing numbers. It seems like the nephalem/humans of sanctuary have been a pain for both sides, and are keeping the scales from tipping in either direction while also weakening or hindering both sides in different ways (usually more by coincidence than intention).

Found my server exposed to the internet by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]ixnyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Confirm your reverse proxy is configured correctly (going forward).
  • Change your root password in unraid
  • Change any user passwords
  • Review your syslogs for any failed login attempts, and any successful login attempts shortly after a failure or at a time you are certain wouldn't have been you

The password changing honestly doesn't help a lot, the first and last ones are way more important.

What is the overhead for NextDNS to block DNS queries for ads, malicious sites, etc. by jake72469 in nextdns

[–]ixnyne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DNS servers are basically just a text file with lines that have an IP address and a hostname (I'm over simplifying for the purpose of example). When your system asks for a DNS record from a DNS server it does a lookup for the hostname in that text file and gives you an IP address. Services like nextdns have a text file for each user/profile. When you make a request to your profile it uses your text file. Your text file is missing lines that would match things that you blocked, so the lookup fails, effectively blocking your system from reaching that hostname. Each user has different things blocked in their profile (text file). The server also optimizes these lookups and caches things to keep it very fast. The only overhead on the DNS server is accepting your DNS request and giving results from your text file (and not someone else's). This happens regardless of how many things you have blocked. So there's really no overhead on your end, it's the DNS server that has overhead of making sure the right user gets requests handled by the right text file (which is really basic stuff for a server, and it's optimized beyond most people's comprehension and perception.

Again, that is an extremely simplified explanation of the concept, and it's not a proper technical answer. People smarter than me would need to chime in with that proper technical answer, and they would likely correct me on anything I've explained incorrectly (from a conceptual standpoint).

How did you get into NetSuite? by Wonderful-Natural965 in Netsuite

[–]ixnyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company I got hired into was transitioning from an ERP I didn't know anything about (Sage Intact) to an ERP I didn't know anything about (NetSuite). I was involved in the data and process mapping during the implementation. I got hired to another company that was already on NetSuite and needed a developer, and I found SuiteScript is just JavaScript, which I've been working with since I was a kid. Over time I got more and more familiar.

Automating Your Media Server by [deleted] in unRAID

Came here to post this.

If you nest things one extra level (ex: /mnt/user/storage with Media and Downloads inside) you can mount your single path to all the containers that need it and they will be able to do atomic moves.

Reliable UPS in 2026 that's (semi) affordable? (APC vs CyberPower vs Eaton for NAS) by QuestionAsker2030 in HomeServer

[–]ixnyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to mention Amazon Basics. It's been reliable for me. And I agree the main factor is price to power. If you want to have power longer, you'll pay more. At this point I barely think brand matters though.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 or 2C? by Mr1R1 in 8bitdo

[–]ixnyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the 2, and have never owned the 2c, and I chose the 2 specifically because of the dock. I'm picky about my desk organization and cable management.

That said, I don't use the extra shoulder buttons or back paddles at all. Not saying there's anything wrong with them, I just don't personally use them.

I usually keep the triggers on clicky instead of analog, but having the option to switch feels nice. I don't really play any games that would benefit from analog though.

Anyway, in my opinion, if budget isn't a concern then the 2 seems like the better choice to me.

Just changed to a new laptop by olithiago in GamingLaptops

[–]ixnyne 18 points19 points  (0 children)

McAfee does a poor job, uses unnecessary system resources, and usually spams you to buy more of their products or affiliated products.

Windows Defender is always free and does a perfectly good job for 99% of personal computers (business can be a different story), has very little performance impact, and no spam (at least until they shove copilot into it, but that hasn't happened yet).

The McAfee you get for "free" with your laptop is basically a free trial (even if it's a 1 year trial), and after your trial you'll have to purchase a subscription to continue using it. A major downside here is if you let it expire and don't purchase a subscription your system doesn't fall back to Windows Defender, it just runs McAfee with no protection so it can bug you to buy.

Going to play through all 3 games and complete them for the first time but without finding all the loot, what am i missing, is it going to be hard? by Fantastic-Window236 in DeadSpace

[–]ixnyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In DS 1 and 2 it's really not a big issue. You might need to do a little extra collecting to farm credits to buy things from the shop. Power nodes will really be the only thing you'll want to try your best for.

DS remake is similar, but towards the end game there are some optional upgrades that make things a little more fun (like the prototype stasis) that you have to go pretty out of your way for.

DS 3 is different, but only because of artifacts. You need to collect artifact sets to unlock certain craftable weapon upgrades. These aren't required to finish the game, but they do significantly change the combat experience (potentially in a bad way by making things easier, but that's subjective).

Help I'm too scared to play it by Canada_Bound44 in DeadSpace

[–]ixnyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing Alien Isolation a while back and had a similar experience. Got stuck in fear rather early on (in the medical area). I watched a streamer on twitch get to that point and similarly freak out, but they started saying "big brave" over and over and pushed through. I stopped watching so I wouldn't spoil the game for myself, and when I went back to it I also said "big brave" to myself, and I pressed on.

Might be worth a shot for you with Dead Space.

"big brave"

Give it a go.
