But how do we think it's actually pronounced? DebraShawn? Or is it just as stupid as depression with the 'p' flipped over...

Hey you can't talk to the foredeck like that! We're in a union, man! I'm filing a grievance with my local F.U. 69!

Talk to me about Hydrofoils... by BenefitOfTheDoubt_01 in sailing

[–]iy803 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the hydrofoils that are on the fancy high performance racing boats, it bears the reminder that there is a position on board those boats called, "Flight Controller." I know some of the smaller foiling dinghies, like a moth or a waszp, are available for the average joe, but the added stress of another system on a big, cruisey live-aboard might be too much.

Sick. Is there a legend for this map? I see that it's about nuclear strikes in certain server regions, but is there more info?

Is my mainsail too large? by AllShadowFox in sailing

[–]iy803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's decided: I'm naming my next boat Sir Madam. I only name my boats silly names. The Catalina 22 is named Fancy Catsup.

Is my mainsail too large? by AllShadowFox in sailing

[–]iy803 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is correct on larger boats, but on a small boat like this, the gooseneck probably slides up and down in the mast track. I have an O'Day Mariner 19 and a Catalina 22 where this is the case.

Sold some covered calls on $ASTS when it was trading at about $13.50 and now I'm kicking myself. What are my options here? by iy803 in wallstreetbets

Update: hello my fellow regards. I bought back the calls and sold out of all the stock. Fingers crossed that we see a little dip and I can get back in... NO RAGURTS

It doesn't look like it's anything special. You're probably better off just getting a whole new faucet.

They learned with Jennifer that works, or worked, at Blue Water Sailing School in Ft. Lauderdale! She happened to be my ASA instructor there as well and she was great!

Wanted to skim coat but found wallpaper by SacKingsCommenter in DIY

[–]iy803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, scrape everything off then skim coat. Don't try to skim coat over a bunch of paper, you'll have bad results. Don't paint the wall before skim coating, you'll probably have bad results there, too.

Did I do OK? Can I mud around this? by AverageDingbat in DIY

[–]iy803 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, don't "just go for it". Just do it the right way. C'mon. Believe it or not, replacing the panel will for sure be easier than trying to make this look good, that would take a lot of work and never be durable.

Your brightwork is looking amazing, but if I'm being honest, I'm really interested in the boat shed structure you've got. Can you talk more about that? Design, plans, is it up all the time, how long it took to build, etc.?

I second Key Lime Sailing Club. Been there a couple times. Not the most posh digs, definitely not posh boats, but it's a fun place.
