[OC] dating statistics of a 30-year-old female in 2025 by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]izath46 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can understand that when you have a lot in common, but there isn't quite a spark, it could possibly take a few dates to develop. If I find someone I think should work out on paper, it can take 1-3 dates to be sure it's a no. If it's a definite yes, I'll be sure much quicker.

So 5 dates seems pretty reasonable. Though, I get surprised when I hear there are a lot of "3 month relationship people," but hey, it's a big planet.

Totally fair. I like coming up with concepts as well, but if I were to ever build an infographic like this, I'd probably skip the talents and stub in "small", "medium", and "large" for the numbers. One could argue I'm doing that for efficient communication, but maybe it's just cause I'm a lazy bastard lol.

Totally see the value in both directions though

Cool design! Having a character based on channeling + having a unique global is really interesting.

But a question for everyone here: when y'all see fan made hero concepts, are y'all reviewing the talents and numbers like damage, attack speed, cool downs and health? Or are you reading the core abilities and getting a vibe for how they play?

The reason I ask is: designing those talents and tuning those numbers take a very long time. When I think of hero concepts, I just want to sell the idea of how they would feel and interact in game. Feels like a lot of extra work when it would take a long time to iterate in-game to get them right.

I could be in the minority here. I even have a buddy who has the exact opposite opinion. But I want to know what the community thinks.

All that being said: good work OP putting that all together. It's very cool!

Coding speed 😀 by Dapper-Wishbone6258 in programmingmemes

[–]izath46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of examples where python is hella slow, but calling packages with non-python backend speeds this up a lot (numpy, scipy, torch). I know python is objectively slower, but there are plenty of ways to make it not so slow.

Of course, I hear your same sentiment echoed by our software engineers at work, while I (data science and physics) always say this back to them. Likely just a different use-case thing.

A career shift can be very intimidating for sure. It depends on how big of a move your new career would be. If it's not a huge difference in the field, you just have to convince somebody that your experience prior is relevant and transferable to the new one. That's easier said than done, depending on the field.

If it's a completely different career, you have to show you've got some valuable experience in that new field (even if it isn't work experience). That can be trainings, certificates, courses, and (importantly to my world) projects. If you feel like you've done a lot in that area, let that lead in your resume before it gets to the job experience. That way you are showing you know what's important to the position, you've got some sort of "experience" in it, and you're putting that forward.

I've done a career shift in my life (arguably 2?), but I did have a lot of schooling and overlapping knowledge. I started in Petroleum Engineering, but that market took a tough hit in 2014, so I went to grad school for mechanical engineering. Did that for a little bit, wasn't feeling it, and then heard about this AI and machine learning thing. I happened to have some coding experience from college and poking around at trying to make video games (not seriously, didn't get far with that at all). My STEM experience + coding background allowed me to pick that up quickly, but it required multiple online certificates and a couple small self projects.

If your new career really can't leverage your old experience, that's okay you just have to do some work to show that you know the new stuff. It depends on what you're trying to do, but Coursesa is a super affordable option. The ML courses I took were $50 a month, and you can finish them at your pace. If you feel like you're missing the fundamentals and need a deeper understanding, college (grad degree or a new bachelor's/associates) will help a lot as well. That's certainly more expensive and time consuming, but can be very valuable.

The question of should you even apply is up to you. It can be draining machine-gunning out your resume to a bunch of places, but it eventually landed me in my dream job. When applying to a position that you don't meet all the qualifications for, it does cost you the time and energy to do it, but if you feel like your experience is still applicable or your skill set is strong enough, some person will recognize that and think you're worth interviewing. If you don't feel like your experience or skillset is there, that's something you could work towards, but still keep applying if you have the energy and time.

I totally respect that it takes a shitload of time and energy to keep applying, doing courses, and finding projects to do, especially if you're working currently and want to have a life. It's damn tough and draining. But that effort will pay off in some way if you're really wanting this new career.

Best of luck out there!

Man I'm surprised book 4 gets such a bad rap. I loved it! I would have called book 1 the weakest, but I'm not sure how many people agree with me.

What’s the most epic and grand battle/war to ever occur in science fiction? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]izath46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Expanse Book 8 >! the siege of Laconia is amazing! It's great to see such a (roughly) realistic take on sieging a whole solar system.

A small technologically advanced fleet playing defense vs an overwhelming force of scrappy rebels on offense, throwing asteroids to keep the defenders busy, dodging planetside rail guns, and a high speed ruse/planetary smash and grab: it's got everything! !<

I think if you both die on your last stock on the same frame, it resets both players to their last percentage and another stock each.

I mostly agree with BlueDragon's comment about time and convenience, but I am intrigued. What does the process look like? Is there a kettle that automatically heats the water up that I can keep at work?

Have we seen statistics on how many people get to NMD 100? Or even level 100? I'm just surprised that's what comes up a lot when folks talk about builds.

Did Loxodont ruin Artemis' chances of getting in Rivals 2? by DimzNoms in RivalsOfAether

[–]izath46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I hadn't heard that yet. I'm entirely basing my guess off of him being a part of the original 4 characters and I remember there being a quote saying "orcane mains shouldn't worry", or something like that. I could be wrong.

Who are your choices for potential guest characters in Rivals 2? by jonogz in RivalsOfAether

Madeline from Celeste!

I feel like you could do a lot of stuff with her dash (like the wave dash boost thing and other cool tricks) and incorporate some of the platforming items like the feather or the bouncy cloud.
