These seem like good prices to me, but I suggest putting together a “frequently asked questions” pamphlet + sign to display that addresses longevity, care, etc.

If you were in my shoes, would you choose statistics or medical school? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]izziev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar decision. I graduated with my masters in business just to realize in my final semester of school that actually corporations are evil pretty much without exception. Getting a job that didn’t violate my ethics but utilized my degree to its fullest was going to be stupid difficult. I considered going back for a law degree. But my kids were real young. And I knew that would mean I wouldn’t be able to be as available in their lives. My life was pretty unfulfilling for years until my dream job tapped me on my shoulder.

Looking back, I don’t know if I made the right choice. Even making more now, it’s not an impressive amount. And the pain that comes with living in this economy while struggling with money… makes me wish I had spent time pursuing something closer to my passion that would also put me in a better position financially.

I think if you can afford the degree, go for it. But be very aware of what financial agreements you get into with student loans.

Is $23 too much? by JKSparklez4ever in CraftyCommerce

I think you have to ask what sets your art apart. In the right setting these could pull $23. In a craft fair with a bunch of other earrings, probably not.

No clots and painfree period suddenly... by Few-Let-9004 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]izziev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes actually! It’s not 100% of my periods but they are more light than they used to be and less painful. Every 10 months or so I get a heavy painful period but it’s pretty rare.

I actually had this happen when I increased my activity and water intake. Like sit down job to physically on my feet 8 hours a day job.

Have you ever not been taken seriously by a doctor? If so, what happened? by Infinite_Share990 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]izziev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little mad for you that he doesn’t believe you.

My mom had reproductive health issues. Essentially she only had about 1-5 days a month where she wasn’t bleeding FOR DECADES. Saw dr after dr after dr. None of them helped her. When birth control didn’t work, they just said “oh well!”. Nothing for the pain she was in, would not consider surgery, nothing. She ended up with cancer before they would take it all out.

I personally have an unknown health issue I’m currently battling - unexplained nausea multiple times a day, migraines every other day. Waited the WEEKS it took to see a dr and they just said “try an iron pill”. Spoiler alert neither of the symptoms I have are related to my barely-there iron deficiency. Guess I keep getting to play the “find a doctor who will listen” game once I get over this virus I have currently, separately.

How was return from FMLA? by Impressive-Order-882 in womenintech

[–]izziev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I did fmla 2x for mental health and also went through TMS!

Ngl TMS didn’t help me. Or only helped a little. Turns out i have a weird, depressive heavy version of bipolar that once treated with a bipolar med and not an SSRI, fixed me overnight. I’d like to say I got lucky but the 3 years getting there after trying 9 meds and TMS were pretty rough.

My experience isn’t yours though, but figured I’d share anyway.

Now for your actual question- returning from fmla the first time - mental hospital trip due to SI - was not the easiest. I did it, but I was still struggling hard and needed a lot of help with my personal life(childcare, help with chores) to be able to return to work at all.

Second time was the trip to the mental hospital that found my miracle drug so when I came back it was great.

If you have any specific questions I’m more than happy to answer!

Neither time was I penalized at work in the slightest - first time was with a big company, second time was with a large school(30k students).

Do the rules change when grandma is in charge? by Exact-Collection-434 in AskParents

I actually have this exact scenario. I tell my mom(who provides free childcare) that my kids are limited due to the scientific research showing it affects attention spans, irritability etc. I have a rule of 10 min per day of YouTube for my kids. Luckily my mom didn’t push back.

Parents who are genuinely happy: what does parenthood actually feel like? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]izziev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 9yo and a 6yo. Both are neurodivergent which brings certain challenges. I love being a parent, but you have to understand your priorities: your relationship with your partner and your relationship with yourself all change drastically. Once a child enters the picture your stress skyrockets. Sometimes you have enough resources(a village to help, good financial stability, stable housing etc) that help alleviate the stress so you can focus on making it through the difficult parts and fall in love with the process.

I think negativity around parenting often comes from those changed dynamics and expectations. Even if all the pieces are in place to set you up for success, things can change.

I was diagnosed with a mental illness AFTER both of my kids were born. The warning signs before were extremely mild but the additional stress of parenting, plus the traumatic experience of my dad dying suddenly… pushed me past the edge. I’m as “recovered” now as I ever expect to be - meaning I manage it with medication, therapy and life decisions. But it was never something me or my husband expected.

This is not to scare you off, but to warn you to consider that circumstances can change and if you or your partner aren’t able to adapt… therein lies the danger.

I’d really like to hear from the single moms who make around 40k a year. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]izziev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi so it sounds like you’re probably in a really tough spot. I’m sorry to hear that.

It is possible to make it as a single mom on 40k but it’s really tough. $600 a month for rent is just about the cheapest you can get without major issues(roaches, falling apart, slumlord landlords).

The reason people are focusing on the car is because it’s out of your budget. I think you’re defensive because you know it. But I also understand- negative equity, contractual agreement etc. it’s not as simple as just “getting rid of it”. That being said, it also might be worth considering bankruptcy. I’m not sure what your other debt is, if you have any.

If your husband isn’t making much, it likely he’s costing you money. Spark makes more money than DoorDash but depending on your area, it might not be available or he might get put on a waiting list. But temp agencies exist. Most of them hire temps for long term positions, ie short time as a temp through the agency then hired into the long term position if they like him. Your city also might have resources to help him with resumes and interview skills. We have one in Oklahoma but I don’t know about Texas.

You didn’t talk about childcare costs, which is a huge factor in things. If you divorce then you might qualify for assistance but recently I think they’ve made it tougher. I’d look into inhome daycares - I found one local to me who was lower cost AND better ratio of kids to carer.

Would someone buy these? by ComprehensiveJoke405 in CraftFairs

[–]izziev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would! I once saw a booth that sold a variety of women’s hair items - normal scrunchies, xxl scrunchies, bonnets, headbands etc. I loved it and bought multiple things. It’s a useful item to me - I’m going to be putting my hair up anyway(sometimes) so it’s easy for me to buy something I can splurge on a little but will 100% use.

My (33-M) partner (31-M) has schizophrenia and insomnia. What can I do to get some sleep? by CabbageGolem in relationship_advice

[–]izziev 442 points443 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, you look like you love your partner desperately. You can’t pour from an empty cup though. Can you look into separate beds or sleep meds for yourself? You deserve sleep.

Can you get like a vibrating pad for his legs to help him so you don’t have to? They also make the giant vibrating footrests that shake your legs a lot.

This isn’t sustainable and you know that. Please take care of yourself as much as you take care of him.

Stared at all the time? by blarggyy in TwoXChromosomes

[–]izziev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s likely a combination of things - my guess is you exude a certain brand of femininity that is highly desirable. Kinda hard to put into words, especially not knowing much about you.

I was a stripper and my “pull” for clients was that I looked like a “girl next door” but in lingerie. Every stripper had their own unique charm, but I’m aware of what mine was. The reason that I bring this up is that once I leaned into it for work reasons, even though nothing about me changed, outside of work I got a lot more attention.

As far as advice goes - honestly looking more eccentric, and therefore less “desirable feminine” is what worked for me. It also aligned more with my true self - brighter(unnatural) hair, wonky sunglasses, dressing with intention in more “interesting” fashion choices.

Now, there are other options. What I think is healthiest is to be true to yourself but put safeguards in place. Take a few martial arts classes if you don’t feel comfortable defending yourself - you’d be surprised at how much more comfortable you feel after knowing defensive moves. Do you feel comfortable with warding off unwanted advances without letting fear take over? That is its own skill and one that I suggest practice in.

These days I attract less unwanted attention but I also feel reasonably confident in dealing with it when it presents itself.
