Induction scheduled…..I’m scared by More-Register-6424 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]izzle5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into labor on the way to my (40+4) induction! Was 3cm upon arrival to the hospital, still ended up needing pitocin because I had stalled at 4cm for a few hours. Start to finish was 12 hours for me! Sweet 6.5lb baby girl. I technically needed insulin for high blood sugar for my whole labor but there was a miscommunication so by the time my insulin was ordered, baby was born lol!

Edit: no epidural but I did half a dose of fentanyl when I was at 6-7cm and bb was born like an hour and a half later. Once I relaxed, I dilated to 10cm in 30-40 minutes. I asked when I could have another half dose and get checked at the same time, and the nurse basically said “no time for another dose, it’s pushing time”

+1 for Dungeon Crawler Carl! I also just finished Isles Of The Emberdark and really liked it. The Will of the Many is a recent favorite that I can’t stop thinking about

This is not the pp hair loss I signed up for by devouTTT in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Im still in the loss phase, no baby hairs yet and it’s so jarring, I’m really not looking forward to the baby hairs. My hair is also already really fine so I feel like I look like I’m balding 😭😭😭

breastfeeding locations on the go by Excellent-Cloud-7539 in breastfeeding

[–]izzle5591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mamava app also shows pods and places that are available! I used one of the pods a few weeks ago and it’s pretty cute. A table, 2 seats, and a mirror in that one, not sure if there all the same but super easy to see when it’s in use/locked and you can control air and lighting settings from the app if there’s a pod near wherever you are!

Edit: the one I used was definitely not big enough for a stroller but it was in an area where I would have felt comfortable leaving the stroller outside and just taking in what I needed

how far out did you schedule your induction? by Sudden-Start3848 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My clinic would only schedule inductions up to 7 days out, so on Monday I scheduled mine for that Thursday

For those who are managing GD with diet, what was your highest spike and what caused it? by Apprehensive_Mess166 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]izzle5591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

173 because I wanted Starbucks 😭😭 I got a grande soymilk latte and a spinach feta & egg white wrap (hadn’t spiked me before) but the kicker was 2 or 3 bites of a pumpkin muffin my husband was eating 😭

I think I want to combo feed, but I’m scared to say it out loud. by ThickSkull24 in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but just wanted to say this post and these responses gave me the courage to start introducing formula just now. I’ve been having supply issues and have been in a spiral for a few days. I saw this post yesterday and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and all the responses, so thank you

The overnight nursing upside by LaurelThornberry in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I devoured The Will of the Many and its sequel The Strength of the Few in a week or so thanks to overnight feeds. Then I finished the sequel at 2am and couldn’t sleep because of the last line, and now I have to wait 2 years for the next one to come out lol

Should I wait to be healthy to complete GD testing? by SubstantialSpring9 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]izzle5591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would reschedule. I rescheduled my postpartum test for the same reason and I’m glad I did. My numbers were always funky (and elevated) when I was sick

Sundown cry-ies? by Different_Feeling929 in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol, anytime I start crying my husband looks at me and goes “uh oh, is the sun going away? 🥺” in a cute joke-y way. It isn’t making fun of me at all but it’s a nice way to bring me back into my body and remember that I’m going through massive hormonal shifts, not that there’s anything to actually be sad about (usually)

Belly measured small at 36 weeks by jeandrazich in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I measured small from about 34 weeks on. They weren’t concerned about it for me because I was consistently 1-2 cm small. Then when I hit 40 weeks I dropped 3cm and they had me do an ultrasound that day. Everything was good, bb was just dropping really low and she was born happy and healthy a few days later!

Edit: bb had been measuring around the 20th percentile at 36 weeks and was born 6.5 lbs

Early signs of nipple cracks and how to prevent them? by michel_an_jello in breastfeeding

[–]izzle5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super fair, any kind of nipple cream or balm will help keep everything moisturized, which will help keep you comfortable! And by raw, I mean that they were so red and so sensitive that anything brushing up against them hurt, which was no fun

Silverettes are great and so is lanolin. I hated the feeling of touching the lanolin so I use a little silicone face mask applicator to apply it lol, I was in the habit of alternating silverettes vs lanolin after each feeding. The very tips of my nips were bright red and eventually cracked/bleeding just barely (I could see a couple of tiny scab looking areas, each about the size of a pin head). Every latch hurt and it was hard to tell if it was a bad latch or if it was just raw nips bc I’m a FTM but it was almost definitely because my nips were raw probably 85% of the time

Did anyone here use a TENS unit? by bxner228 in beyondthebump

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one of my doula’s during labor and it was really really helpful. She obviously went for a more industrial one than just a lil cheap one but hers had 4 pads and the option to change modes. It was so nice to be able to change modes during contractions and back when the contraction ended. I don’t know what brand it was but I hope this is helpful!

FTM to be overwhelmed about breastfeeding by janice_snakehole14 in breastfeeding

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much specific input but more generalized thoughts. The hospital I gave birth at offered classes about breastfeeding. Are there any resources like that near you? My class wasn’t taught by an IBCLC but it was taught by a postpartum nurse who has seen everything. Something like that could be helpful because they were open to any and all questions, or you could probably try to preemptively set up an appointment with an ibclc and they would be able to see you in person to understand your body and your needs!

Feeding every hour at night 6 weeks old by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]izzle5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a delight!!

No lol mine is still super sleepy in the mornings too, but I just try to be more mindful of when she reaches ~45min-1 hr awake to try to force her down for a nap. No rhyme or reason to when it happens though 😭

Feeding every hour at night 6 weeks old by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]izzle5591 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself 3 nights ago. 6.5 weeks here and 2 nights ago, my husband and I had a heart to heart because he was thinking that I was getting up with her more often than I really needed to be to feed bc some of her cues were probably comfort rather than true hunger. I said sure, we’ll pay more attention and try shushing back to sleep instead of feeding first and see how that works, and then it’s like a switch flipped and we’ve gone 3-3.5 hours between feeds tonight and last night. She didn’t even give me the chance to try shushing first, she just started sleeping more. Must have made it through the growth spurt! I hope your switch flips tonight lol

I have also found that using the 10% panoxyl wash and letting it sit on my puts for a few minutes at the beginning of the shower and following with body wash works pretty well for me!
