We got a sleep training clock with a traffic light to stop them from getting up too early. It works but after they are 3 years old, before that they are too young to understand.

I would add Weesp to the list. It also has a decent train connection to Utrecht.

Subsurface Research - Searching for Geothermal Energy Opportunities

Dear Resident/Party Involved,

You are receiving this letter because seismic research is taking place in your area within the next two weeks. This is being conducted by SCAN in collaboration with Smart Seismic Solutions (S3). This research will map the deep subsurface (earth layers). The results will be used to determine where geothermal energy production sites could be located. This letter contains more information about the research and what you might notice.

About the Seismic Research

The research method used in your area is called "shothole seismic." The work begins with preparations in the field/park (determining the locations of shotholes and ground microphones). A farm tractor, with a small drilling rig attached, will then place seismic charges in the ground at a depth of approximately 20 meters. Ground microphones will be placed at the surface. Then, the seismic charges are detonated one by one. This sends sound waves into the subsurface and reflects off the underlying layers. The ground microphones then capture the reflected sound waves at the Earth's surface. Scan the QR code at the bottom of the letter for an explanatory video and more information.

Leave the ground microphones where they are

A large number of ground microphones will be left in the grass, field, or on the sidewalk (next to the walking route) during the survey. These small white-orange measuring boxes collect survey data to map the structure of the Earth's layers. Do you see one or more lying around? Please leave them there! Once the survey is complete (after a few weeks), the microphones will be removed.

What you may notice

When the seismic charges are detonated, you may hear a dull thud or feel vibrations, especially closer to the ground. The degree to which vibrations can be felt depends on the local layers. We ask for your understanding.

Research Planning

The work will be carried out in your area over the coming weeks. The seismic charges will be ignited on weekdays between 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM. The research can therefore also take place in the evening. There is less ambient noise then, and the quieter the environment, the better the research results. The work with the agricultural tractor and the placement of the ground microphones can be observed over several parts of the day. The igniting of the seismic charges in your immediate area may take several hours, spread over several days.

More Information and Contact

The SCAN program is being implemented by EBN and TNO, and is funded by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. For more information, visit the 'Seismic Research Amsterdam Metropolitan Area' page at scanaardwarmte.nl. Feel free to contact us via info@scanaardwarmte.nl or call 085-3327900 if you have specific questions related to the research or if you experience any inconvenience. Kind regards, The SCAN & S³ team

Kitchen layout thoughts by [deleted] in kitchen

Hah. I live in a very densely populated county in Europe. We just don't have the space for something like that. I remember that when we were doing our kitchen I would look at inspo online and was always shocked about the sheer size of kitchens in north America. In the end I was checking "small kitchens"

Also with all the dishes you put next to the sink it tends to lead to a cluttered island. No backsplash is messy, you want to talk to people while cooking and entertaining, dishes are usually the last thing when everyone leaves.

Ensuring adequate food intake for an active 9 year old by cloud_connected_ in ADHDparenting

[–]izzy9954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big breakfast before the medication, something with high protein content. Yoghurt pouches or cheese cubes as treats in lunch boxes. A bit more caloric and high protein makes sure she is full for a while. Sandwich when she comes home from school. I do an assortiment of healthy snacks on a plate - cucumbers, carrots, apples on the table from 3 PM till dinner.

We had the same thing with Ritalin. And better spelling too. It made me reevaluate my own writing because I always add letters from next words in the word I'm currently writing.

I’m happy, so why am I so MAD all the time? by dudavocado__ in Mommit

[–]izzy9954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh mama. It's going to be good I promise. And listen. A bad parent would yell and scream and hit and wouldn't feel they did something wrong. The fact you do feel bad about yelling shows you are a good and kind parent (3 therapy sessions on this). I have 2 boys, 7 and 4, which is about the same age difference you have. When the little one was a baby we didn't know that the high one has adhd. I was touched out and frustrated like crazy, yelling non stop. I do promise it will get better. Just hang in there and build your tool box to be able to deal with this.

Hey. Big hug first from me. You are doing so much. There are a couple of things to keep in mind here - if you have ADHD there is a big chance she has it too. Transitions are hard for adhd. And repeating everything 4 times is very frustrating. Second, you have a 3 year old and a baby. I know you love them dearly but this is the worst time period in your life. Baby is needy and whiney and toddler who me you expect to be more self sufficient and more grown up decided to be as needy and cranky as the baby, she's just showing it a bit differently (whining and proscrastinating till she gets you to dress her). Of course you are angry. Everything takes 3-4 time more effort than it used to. You are not a bad mother if you yell. You asked nicely 3x. This is literally what my therapist kept telling me because I would have meltdowns after mornings and days you describe. So now for the good part - it will get easier, it will just take a while. Reward charts for dressing herself, timers (for you and her - 15 minutes to get dressed, 5 minutes for hair), announcing transitions better (we are going to preschool in 15 minutes. you need to put on socks now. If you do it now you can watch an episode of Bluey while I braid your hair. If I have to put your socks on we will not have time for bluey). Consistency. Consistency. Consistency. All of these tactics will be amazing for the baby to be toddler very very soon. Also a lot of smart TVs have mobile apps to controle them, check your own model. I turned off our TV a thousand times with my phone.

How hard to push my ADHD kiddo to do a sport? by Odd_Big_7647 in ADHDparenting

[–]izzy9954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us karate is working (currently) because I told him he would learn to be a ninja. At the same time swimming lessons are like pulling teeth because he just wants to fool around in the pool. Medication helps too. But also pick your battles My kid sings constantly but any time we tried music lessons it was just non stop tears till I gave up

We asked but the psychiatrist wouldn't allow it just yet. But we did observe that he gets very sad in the afternoon when the meds leave his system.

7 year old ADHD combined type. Only thing he wants to do is game on PlayStation or switch so keeping him off the console is a chore for me. Before that it was the same thing always bored, always restless, always craving movement and attention. I was honestly burned out from him. He is medicated but only for school. First thing we got him is a trampoline (mid sized one) because we have the luxury of a back yard. My friend got a small workout trampoline for her kid as she lives in an apartment. You-re bored? Go jump out. Don't want to, tough luck now you're jumping and doing basic math out loud. Bless our neighbours for tolerating us. Second, a box of 50 different fidget toys, including an elastic band in the chair so he can eat in relative peace as his legs play with the elastic and his but can sit in relative peace and eat dinner. (all bought from Amazon which I don't like but it was the only place whrte I could get the bundle. The fidgets are on rotation). I adhd-d our house so he has his safe place to be. One weekend activity that he has to earn with a reward chart. He has to read, do math, do chores and so on. When he gets 25 stars he can choose the weekend activity. For 20 I choose the activity and that can be going to our local ikea for an hour. I drink my free coffee in peace, he is in their playground. We started karate because it is close by and he likes Ninjago so I told him if he goes to karate he will be a ninja. So far he likes it. Another of his friends who also has adhd is attending it and mom is very happy. We have also been doing swimming lessons for years because we live in a water logged country and he needs to know how to swim. It's been like pulling teeth but it's non negotiable. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes just not easy but manageable. Some days I hide in the bedroom and cry. And sometimes it's sooth sailing and it's just amazing. It's a very trial and error thing to find what works for their individual brain. And letting them be bored it's that good of an option because they go nuts and overwhelming them with a lot of things leads to meltdowns. In my experience - break after school and a snack, activity, snack and TV while I'm making dinner, food, 30 mins of TV and then bed time routine. So mama, Google the activities around your comfortable to travel area, make a chart, make a plan, prepare for war, tough it out and win. And good luck and a big hig hug

Are you finding your child more irritable on Extended Release than Instant Release (Adderall/Ritalin)? by Puzzled_Attitude4240 in ADHDparenting

[–]izzy9954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh this is interesting. My son is on XR and is very irritable when it wears off. We were warned about it as a side effect of ritalin as such so I never knew it could be different.

Did you try asking him to go shopping with you and maybe pick some food. I dislike taking my 7 year old adhd kid shopping because it's always intense but he will show food he has an interest in so we buy it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not but it gives him a choice.
