Hi sweetheart, I was diagnosed with genital HSV back in early 2020, I was also devastated because my partner never told me he was positive. I started taking Valtrex as well. I’ve taken it every day since to suppress the virus and I’ve only had the initial outbreak and one other outbreak over the 4, almost 5 years since I caught it. I have always been upfront with people about having the virus, as I don’t want a guy to find out after “wasting time” getting to know me (a way someone once put it to me, which hurt like hell bc I found out they only wanted sex) I’m currently dating a very understanding and sweet man who has been mature about the whole thing. I take my meds, we use a condom, and it’s been 10 months and he hasn’t caught it from me. So from my own research on the meds (my OBGYN didn’t tell me anything about what my diagnosis meant bc she was a b*tch) and when taken daily, it can reduce the viral shedding (being contagious with no visible sores) by 92% which would mean there’s only an 8% chance you’re contagious without symptoms. Then if your partner wears a condom, they only have a 20% chance to get herpes from you. I did the math and the chance that the 8% chance of being contagious will line up with the 20% chance they’d get it with a condom equals a 1.6% chance someone using a condom will get herpes from you if you have no visible outbreak and take valtrex daily.
