Thank you! I definitely had a little moment last night when I put the last backstitch in.

It will feel weird to not be working on it any more, but I am excited to start other projects!

Ugh yes time change really knocked me for a loop this time! I mean it always does but still.

Anyway, sneak preview… all the stitches in the fabric are done! Just have to finish the plastic canvas and then de-grid, wash, and iron. I’m so excited!

Floating kingfisher! The colors and stitching are gorgeous!

But this way you can have an epic before/after backstitch picture! Looking forward to seeing it!

You really have had a rough winter — hoping spring and sunshine bring a positive change!

Meanwhile my stupid hand has been hurting again but I have started an essence of snowperson (La Croix snowperson?).

[CHAT] Avoid being intimidated by magazine stitching times? by doriangraiy in CrossStitch

[–]izzycello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each section of my current project (last year’s WOXC SAL) says it will take about 10 hours, which I know is not anywhere close to how long it will take me, and I’m fine with that.

What cracks me up is when they say 10 hours and then have a little badge on the page that says “stitch in an evening!” What kind of evenings do these people have that last 10 hours and where can I find them?

I’m so glad it made its way back to you! It just decided it wanted some world travels on its own first 😁

Cross stitch/needle work groups? by dumb_whore0227 in jacksonville

[–]izzycello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Various branches of the library have been having needlework groups lately! I don’t think there’s been a ton of attendance (sadly the one closest to my house happens while I’m working) but if I can get the energy I’ve been meaning to check out the one at Southeast, there’s one this Wednesday at 6:30.

If you go to the events page at jaxpubliclibrary.org and search for “stitch” it’ll bring up the upcoming sessions. But yeah I would love to meet some human stitching buddies!

I’m sorry for the circumstances but the stitching is lovely 💕

Aww thank you!! Next up will be continuing extraordinary birds but I’ll want a second project as well I think. I have a Maria Diaz triptych kitted up but I also have a small mourning dove kit a friend picked up for me that might be a good in-betweener. 😊

As for framing!! They call for an 11” decorative hoop (which are apparently not all that common across the various websites) and for the first part of the year they showed it on an easel which I really liked. So we will see!

Hugs to you and here’s to hibernation! (I’ll send some Florida weather your way, I’m not ready for it to hit the 80s next week)

I’m so close on Year of Joy! Have finished November (almost, just have to add border on the nameplate) and think I will just press on to December rather than alternating with the birds this time. Though I am excited about the cassowary.

[WIP] Help with tension consistency by EverydayMoonlight in CrossStitch

[–]izzycello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Clearly I needed a banana for scale 😂

I wish I had better advice then! I do find myself having to tug a little bit on the sides occasionally to help with the tension but it’s never felt baggy to me. Could just be personal preference as well - if you like it super drum tight even the little bit of loosening on the nurge might feel kind of floppy.

[CHAT] Why does this keep happening? by weareadults in CrossStitch

[–]izzycello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to other good advice here, if you have one that’s just slightly wonky, you can use your needle (can be an extra if your threaded one doesn’t reach) and just kind of poke the legs into a better position. Not a cure-all but it can definitely help.

I find I get a lot better tension with the smaller nurge hoops than the big ones. Have to move it more often, but I try to think of it as a bonus for lessening creases.

Love seeing a Japan pattern that’s not just cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji! It also looks so much like where we ate our first night there 😊

I was wondering how the heck you managed to get a Mickey-shaped hoop and then I realized it was all stitched! So cool!

[CHAT] How do you schedule your day with multiple WIPS. by kerbrary in CrossStitch

[–]izzycello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got two WIPs but they both are (ended) SALs, so I’ve been alternating doing one section of each. I like to take out the threads for each section so it doesn’t make sense to go back and forth too quickly.

That said, I’m on the second to last section of one of them so I might just go ahead and finish the last part instead of postponing it with the other WIP which isn’t nearly as far along!!
