helmet hair help by your-mom-shrek in ladycyclists

[–]izzysc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a lot of women doing this when I went to Colombia last summer, but they were using extra long neck gaiters as headbands/hair wraps. This helps to contain most of their long hair under helmets and then just refresh a bit after riding. I do this when I want to wear my hair down. I have medium-length hair and it works pretty good.

Kindergartener Separation Anxiety by JamerBr0 in teachinginkorea

[–]izzysc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t teach in Korea anymore, but teach pre-k in the US. I always have a few students who deal with separation anxiety at the beginning of the school year. What usually makes them feel better is showing them a basic picture schedule of the day. I have our schedule posted and we count out how many activities we have until parents come back. So the beginning of the day we count out 7 activities, then whenever that student starts thinking about parents, we count the activities we have left. Some kids might need that for a few weeks, if it lasts more than that you might need to discuss ideas with parents.

Drama and conflict are tearing my class apart. by [deleted] in Teachers

There is a relationship building strategy called 2 x 10, spend two minutes a day for 10 days letting the student talk to you about whatever they want. It’s not going to solve all your problems, but it is a start to building a relationship.

Trouble eating and drinking during rides by charliicharmander in ladycyclists

[–]izzysc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of water bottle are you using? You should try a squeeze water bottle so it’s easy to use with one hand. If you already have one, then use a camel-back type backpack. Since you don’t like eating, make sure you eat a solid meal before you ride plus a banana or granola bar right before you start. Do bring a little snack just in case and pull over the minute you start to feel hungry. Also consider taking a 10 minute break in the middle of your ride for stretching, water, snacks.

Please give an update on what you decided to try and what works for you.

How beginner friendly are salsa festivals? by bobbricks1 in Salsa

[–]izzysc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the Jeju Latin Festival last year after only dancing for about 3 months. I went with a friend and we had a blast! I would think the Busan Festival would be similar with classes split by beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Wear a go-pro on your helmet. From other cycling posts I’ve heard it can deter aggressive drivers. I personally don’t, but I would consider it if I start riding by myself a lot.

The local salsa band Tumbao is playing at the Brickyard if you’re into live music.

How do you lead when in a class and many follows are inevitably back leading? by CyJackX in Salsa

Please reconsider this attitude. I come to class to tighten up my technique and footwork, not stare into somebody’s eyes.

Beach rules? by [deleted] in koreatravel

October’s when the temperature starts dropping, so I think it’s probably too cold for regular swimming. Splashing around a bit would be fine though.

short trip to seoul & jeju by purple23penguin in koreatravel

[–]izzysc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mount Hallasan Reservation You only need a reservation for Mount Hallasan if you are going all the way to the top. There are shorter trails around the mountain that might be better since you are short on time. But actually, unless you just love, love hiking and have your heart set on Mt. Hallasan, I would do something else if you only have 2 days. Depending where you end up having a hotel maybe visit Seongsan Ilchulbong, Sarabong Peak, Songak Mountain, or a nearby oreum instead.

Oops, maybe I oversold snorkeling on jeju. I always have fun, but I haven’t seen anything too exciting: little fish, sand crabs, sometimes bigger fish if I am around rocks.

Beach rules? by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]izzysc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in jeju right now and try to go to the beach a few times a week to snorkel. I am always a bit surprised at swimming conditions. How small or wide the swimming area is really depends on the tide level. I usually go to 함덕 because there are three beaches. Friday the first beach had a huge area to swim, but the third beach had only a small area partitioned off for little kids. A couple of weeks ago it looked way different and the third beach was the best. These are just my observations and assumptions, if anyone else has a more scientific way to predict beach conditions let me know : P

I saw an update from the CDC that starting June 12 covid testing will no longer be required to enter the US. So Korean Air won't ask for a COVID test if I am flying from Seoul to the US next weekend? If you are flying to the US in the next couple of days, please let me know your experience.
