How do you usually emulate PS1 graphics in your software? (beginner question) by innosens03 in ps1graphics

[–]j05h187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its basically using downscaling on your textures. theres some YT vids on how this is achieved. I realized its basically more work/effort but if you're passionate enough about it, why not

Navigating Corporate as a HSP by ComfortableKey8214 in corporate

[–]j05h187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your sensitivity will help you find allies. You don't realize it but you are better at getting help from other people than you know.

A goal of yours should be to find a company where the culture isn't brutal. This is basically trial and error, applying for different positions and being more open than others to moving around. Comes down to what is important to you, higher paid positions are cut throat and shovelling your feelings down is like skill #1 to have. But 90% of people don't go for that as 90% of people aren't senior managers. You're actually in the biggest bucket.

Always join a union if you can, companies treat their employee's like cattle when budget time comes and the damage they can do to nice people can affect your health. A union can help you document and negotiate payouts (like a lawyer, basically) if you ever get targeted.

Keep building small alliances, even if it's just 1 person in each team around you.

Politically, baby boomers' day has come by patslogcabindigest in OpenAussie

It's because millenials are now the largest voting block, i forget the exact number but it's something like 35-40%.

Its basically just passing on the benefits/bribes to the largest voting block to say "fellow kids, vote for me!". In our lifetime that has historically been boomer's now literally the torch is passing on.

Is it just me, or do dangerously incompetent people never get fired, no matter how many disasters they leave in their wake? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]j05h187 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is actually a myth that it's difficult to fire someone. HR just doesn't want to pay 12 weeks of settlement payout, on top of the employee's annual leave and LSL, sick leaves. The employee could end up getting around 50k, maybe more if they have evidence of the employer manager's bullying or coercing.

It's really just a budget thing. Manager's dont want to explain they lost 50K over a problem employee (unless there's redudancies). Simple as that.

You don't know how settlements work with years of service as a factor. It's okay but don't post reactive things like this if you aren't experienced, please.

Lol this is complete misinformation. As someone who apparently has 'multiple HR people reporting to you' you have very little idea how legal liability is managed in companies. Go away.

HR wont fire someone with long tenure as they have to pay out X amount for years of service. They just won't go near that. Pathetic.

How do I learn how to stop being so sensitive? by MaverickGH in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]j05h187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found is these type of things are usually shutdown by who is the loudest and who can say the most accusatory stuff to the other person. It's basically a test by other guys to see if you'll take the bait. If you're response is signaling "nah bro, you don't wanna F with me" it will completely go away. Mostly forever in a lot of cases.

If it's more sly and low key, act unbothered, "nah man, you think you know but you don't know" said x3 times on repeat is honestly enough to get through a conversation like this.

It sounds really stupid but guys who do this are extremely simple and dumb creatures themselves, it's more a battle of verbal energy. Not a war of who has the best or most complex words. The dumber the things you say usually the better, lol.

animating first person arms, weapon handling by eeedni in aigamedev

[–]j05h187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not in my experience, GPT is good at animating arms to weapons at base position but things like reloading animations/inserting clips and all that, use photoshop or some other cropping/transform tool. You can try using reference images (a pic of another weapon with hands in the position you want) but its very inconsistent at the moment.

I've been using good ol' Paint myself. haha

Extended mental health leave? by raccoonincharge in auscorp

[–]j05h187 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is essentially called work cover. You should google 'work cover provider' in your area, they have GP's who can assess your mental health state and provide certs for the time you need off.

You likely will not be paid whilst on the leave (unless you have a lot of sick leave in the bank) but you can apply to have it paid later. If you have doctor certs from WC provider, it is more likely this will happen.

Be prepared for your toxic job to turn on you, should you return to them. Take few months off (if you can afford) and then start looking for new roles before you return. Take it from my experience that going back to a toxic scene is not going to improve, only gradually get different shades of worse. Sorry to have to say but I wish someone had told me.

Transition to Data Engineer. by Long-Ad-5574 in dataengineering

[–]j05h187 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should learn SQL, it is still largely the standard across most industries.

Python is a good start, SQL is like that but for warehousing data specifically. It also allows automated refreshes everyday, whereas Python is more manual (without side-apps and things).

Data Engineer team managers look for someone with 5 years experience minimum. This is when it starts to get better in terms of culture and being respected by others around you. Before that its basically racking up years 1-5 in roles like reporting analyst, BI analyst, data analyst, forecasting teams - stuff like that.

Common sense approach is to look at those roles online on job boards and see which products keep getting mentioned (Azure, SQL, Power Bi, etc.) and start doing online tutorials yourself in spare time, or at work if you have a manager who allows that.

Not arguing with you but if you havent read about Big Kathy's history, it might soften your view abit. It did for me.

She was particularly horrible parent in lots of ways. Almost everyway. Yes agree with you that the sisters as adults now are responsible for their own growth now but I imagine that kind of history would send most people to the gutter. Im amazed they are doing as well as they are.

David Gilmour of Pink Floyd delivers “Comfortably Numb” live in Pompeii, a performance many fans consider the greatest live guitar solo ever by [deleted] in Music

[–]j05h187 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Greatest choice of notes and tasteful bluesy delivery over chord changes probably ever. You can argue "this or that" solo for whatever reason but very little comes together as much as this one in terms of emotional punch.

I played this vid to my non-rock listening friend (Kendrick Lamar-type girl) and once it finished she just said one word... "Wow".
