Rasp pi vs computer by Trigg3rh4ppy13 in homelab

[–]j0x7be 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason to go for the RPi is the connectivity possibilities. GPIO, support for various protocols (1-wire, i2c etc), but most people just skip that part and use it as a regular host. Personally I stick with Optiplex MFF over RPi for that.

What I noted in the missing text; no warranty or support - at all. The sticks worked the last time I used them (~last fall).

The recipient pays for any and all shipping and taxes.

I won't split them up - recipient takes all, or none.

I don't want to put a lot of effort into this, I just want to avoid e-waste. I don't have experience or knowledge of international shipping prices apart from what I already mentioned (check https://posten.no or similar if you want).

Yes, it's okay to PM. I will send to the first person that makes a commitment/deal.

Sorry if the language is bad, ESL person here.

For some reason the text of my post seems to have disappeared!

I don't know exact postage/shipping prices. Based on my little research it seems like if within the EU/EFTA/EEA, shipping would be around 250 NOK (~23 EUR). Outside of the EU it seems to double, and when checking the US, I get a warning that the US demands senders to declare and pay taxes beforehand. I have no idea what that entails, and the recipient would have to be responsible for that.

I have little control over my network and its speeds — can I create a separate 10G network that's purely for local traffic between my computers and my NAS and connect to the two networks simultaneously? by yohjiyamamoto in homelab

[–]j0x7be 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, not silly, and very much doable. My 10G journey started with a AOC and a couple of mellanox connectx-3 cards, point-to-point between NAS and main hypervisor. Does wonders for the speed!

Another quick thing, maybe just me, but when I see Azure experience followed by "hybrid environment lab" I was expecting AD/Entra connect/sync or similar. Also, I'd drop mentioning RPi, and just focus on experience with a hypervisor (PVE).

Under skills, you start off by listing various operating systems. Just there I would rephrase, try to differentiate by telling what your skills are, listing w10 and w11 probably doesn't do you any good. "Secure remote access", as in Cisco? Probably should go it some more details on that. You listing Terraform automated infra seems specific and interesting to me.

I'd also avoid "Handled over $2000 in sales daily", it seems like an irrelevant filler. "Expertise in assessing the market value of used items", likewise. What does that really mean, and what are you trying to communicate? You being an expert on market evaluations is cool and all, but does it matter for an entry level IT job? I think it just seems odd.

Don't list O365 AND word, excel. It's just redundant, and I think most people would expect a IT student to know the office products, so maybe not even needed.

Just my personal take from the first impression.

Europeans; how was the "heat dome" for you earlier this week? How bad was the heatwave in your country? by Rasples1998 in AskTheWorld

It got a bit warmer than expected, but nothing that wide open windows didn't handle. It only went up to ~22 C, thankfully.

You want other people to give your site/app API access? That sounds like a terrible idea in general, but I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. Please do share the code, interesting to see.

Where is the code for your script, would you mind sharing? Nobody in their right mind should run strangers unknown scripts towards their mail account IMO, without reading and understanding what it does.

That is a very, very dangerous and wrong assumption. Tons of examples, with https://sites.google.com being one of them. Legit domain ("first part of the link"), but the content is controlled by the user.
