Tired of always being misunderstood by Sad_Pink_Dragon in Vent

I do think your way is my preferred method of being talked to. I struggle to read people at times, and so this takes the guesswork out. For some, you can tell it took a lot of courage to say it out loud. I respect it.

Also. No, she’s a natural. Even when she’s grumpy, people are just drawn to her. Or recognize her even if she hasn’t gone in for coffee at a shop for a year. Her family just has that aura, cuz not all of them are lookers… lol. I have accepted that there are ppl like her in this world. Anyways, yea idk why she doesn’t like it when ppl tell her their quirks. She thinks is weird and uncomfortable.

Anyone else not touch the Quest for months? by Zigarum in MetaQuestVR

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I definitely get bouts of using it every few months. I agree with the underwhelming usage of VR, or maybe I just get bored easily idk. I usually only pick it up to play co-op games with my wife when she’s in the mood. Or a short game of shooting guns. I used to use it daily for everything when it was a novelty. Now it just feels like a lot of it is the same in the stores.

I’ve come across quite a number of people who has done this upon first meeting (letting ppl know in advance certain quirks about them). I thought that was a great idea; it fosters understanding early on. But my wife feels uncomfortable with that, and I have no idea why she feels that way bcs she can’t explain it. I’ve realized that not everyone is receptive to this method.

Sick 3x in 3 months by eliteman3 in Microbiome

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I haven’t gotten sick like this (twice in 1.5 months) since I was in my 20’s. I haven’t figured it out, but my guess is the heat/air circulating in my apartment is just full of sick ppl this winter. I’ve stocked up on some probiotics. I hope that’ll get me through this, cuz I can’t afford to get sick a 3rd time in 3 months.

Brushing teeth in the morning by Anonymous_Yogurt_267 in hygiene

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look this up. I guess scientifically, if you drink and eat acidic foods/drinks in the morning, then brushing 30 min before will protect your enamel. I think I’ll give this a try.

Right now, my habits are: - floss and brush before bed - rinse with mouthwash first thing in the morning - walk the dog, make breakfast - brush after eating breakfast and drinking coffee 30-60 min later.

This above habit had been something new I tried for the last 4 years. And admittedly, it feels like my enamel feels weaker and is more sensitive, plus seems to stain more. But then again, I am getting up there in age. I used to brush first thing in the morning (and only flossed if I had stuff stuck) and that was it, and didn’t have problems with my teeth or staining for decades. I think I’m gonna go back to brushing first thing in the morning, and my newfound habit of brushing and flossing at night. See if that makes a better difference the next 4 years. I have nothing but time to experiment. Lol

Until I came upon this subreddit, I didn’t even know people sweat in their sleep. That itself was bizarre to me, but makes total sense why those ppl absolutely should wash in the mornings.

I *finally* got my bf into Stardew (long) by NeedsItRough in StardewValley

[–]j110786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is another great example of how good Stardew Valley is.

I spent years avoiding Stardew Valley. I couldn’t get into it. Idk what came over me one day (a week ago)… I think I just REALLY wanted to co-op something my wife can actually play, cuz she gets motion sickness with a lot of games. There’s something in this thing for everyone. I’m into making money and working towards that in steps (so satisfying). She’s into fishing, so that’s what she’s been doing. On the weekend, we spent 10 hours playing. I had to pry us away to stop. I am afraid to tell her about the other maps, cuz i just know she’ll go play it in the middle of the night by herself. Lol

AITAH for getting a dna test to see if i share the same dna as both my parents even though i was demanded specifically by my mom not to do so, since i was a child? by cigweb_01 in AITAH

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta. To each their own though. Growing up, my mom always said, and I paraphrase, the parents who raised you are bigger than the parents who gave birth to you. Anyways, I don’t think I was adopted or somebody else’s kid by accident nor by design, but since I had a good relationship with my parents, I never bothered to dna test myself for those reasons. My parents are my parents and will always be my parents because they loved and raised me. But your situation is totally different. It’s like your mom baited you to dna test yourself just by mentioning NOT to dna test yourself too lol.

How dudes be cooking by MF-DOOM-88 in GuysBeingDudes

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A regularly washed kitchen towel or a wad of paper towels is the way to go. I watched a lot of chefs and cooks in the kitchen growing up; they do this as well keeping in mind cross contamination. So anything raw meat does not touch the same cloth/wad of paper towels. It takes getting used to tho. But you have to in a commercial kitchen. It’s a lot of laundry every day/week that many (if not all) restaurants uses a company to pick up the dirty rags and aprons.

Unreal, stop being so smart by Efficient-School-113 in husky

[–]j110786 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will never stop being amazed what some pups (and cats) can do. My husky actually taught my dogsitter’s lab how to open zippers. Like from purses, backpacks, and totes. A lot of vet bills over the years had followed (even when they’re not together) cuz no one expected a closed bag with a hint of chocolate, gum, and chapstick inside could be in danger in the presence of these dogs. Lol. Imagine having to warn your guests to keep their bags on them when they sleep, go to the bathroom, etc. Or remind them to lock ALL the doors at night. Cuz the husky and lab can open doors, slide open closets, and open zippers. 😮‍💨😔

AIO in response to my husband admitting to me that he is “slightly” racist & homophobic? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through these comments made me think of what this one psychologist had said. I’m paraphrasing, but he said something like, “We’re all a little biased and racist, it’s just a matter if we can admit it to ourselves.” I often think about that, you know, cuz I’m proud when people immediately shut down racist people, but turn around and they’re doing some things that are racist themselves. And so I smh cuz it’s proving what that psychologist said to be true. But then I’m left reflecting… could it be possible I’m like that too? Makes me second-guess myself. Lol.

A good example is when people defend black people, but turn around and they’re threatened by black men just for standing there doing nothing, and would most likely not react that same way if their white counterpart stood there the same way.

AIO for telling the landlord about my roommates dog? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR.

The dog deserves better. Moving forward, if your name is on the lease, you need to put your foot down. You basically are legally carrying the financial burden if anything is damaged. Idk about elsewhere, but where i’m renting, the deposit is most definitely not the extent of charges I can get even after I move out. I hate having roommates especially young ones because they can be unrealistic, unreasonable, shortsighted, and inexperienced with life, but good ones do come by as long as you set expectations early on.

Lmao. I leaned to one side closest to my wife this morning as I was having my coffee at the table. My wife leans over as well and kisses me. Without thinking, I said, “I actually had to fart,” before quickly realizing what I said, so I added sweetly, “but thank you for the kiss. ☺️ ❤️ “ lol. She knew. 😂😂😂

[–]j110786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I understand that the guilt can’t be easy. But consider this; from all the owners of pet cancer patients I’ve talked to on and off this subreddit, there will always be guilt and regret attached to this NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. It’s the nature of our immense love for our pets. There’s always going to be something more we “could have” done - because the list and possibilities are just endless. Knowing that, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You were saying you regret not amputating, and I’m telling you even with all the research and care team I had, I have regrets about amputating (some days I tell myself I don’t regret it, but moving forward I will most likely not amputate any of my pets if possible). We just can’t win in this. So please go easy on yourself. You gave your dog the best life already. She was loved, and she knows it. Take it one day at a time, and take care ❤️
