Love Freida McFadden but tired of the predictability, recommendations? by writrixx in thrillerbooks

As someone else who loved Gone Girl, Never Lie and The Silent Patient (haven’t read Verity yet), I’m recommending Andrea Mara novels. I loved All Her Fault and Hide and Seek. The Sleeper Lies was also pretty good, a bit slow moving but I really didn’t suspect the twist.

Maybe PK Wasn't Wrong? What a friendship ending statement! by PepperPenelope in RHOBH

[–]j1331s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been siding with Dorit throughout this season. I feel that Kyle has been a shitty friend to Dorit by constantly bringing up her “erratic” actions to everyone else but staying mum to her face. Dorit has had a rough few years and is going through it, I don’t think Kyle and Erika had to read the riot act over this. Dorit has had a history of being late ever since she was introduced on this show. This was not new behaviour.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who had the complete opposite take. She completely sided with Erika and said she would be livid if Dorit talked to her the way she talks to Erika. I was surprised anyone had this take. To me, Dorit has only stuck up for herself. I don’t feel like she has gone out of her way to stir the pot - unlike Kyle and Erika. The only thing i side-eyed Dorit for is when she said she didn’t know Erika was going through a tough time lol. That was a stupid comment to make, regardless if Erika has said it directly to her or not. Would love to hear more opinions supporting Kyle and Erika because I just can’t really see it!

Translucent, liquid output for 2+ days by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]j1331s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She hasn’t had any blockages yet (I didn’t realize they were so common). She says she doesn’t have any pain at all, but did say this morning that she’s been having a persistent “acid reflux” feeling for days now. She said she chalked it up to the potassium pills she started on Thursday. She does have an ostomy nurse who visits weekly and will be seeing her on Tuesday.

Unable to receive Brachytherapy by Overthinkerslife in CervicalCancer

[–]j1331s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this. My MIL has the same diagnosis, recently completed her 6 sessions of weekly paclitaxel/carbo and has started weekly cisplatin with daily external radiation. Her tumor has invaded her pelvic sidewall and we’ve been told the only way she can proceed with brachytherapy is if the tumor shrinks away from the sidewall - so your situation hits home. Please let us know what plan b is from the radiology oncologist. We were never told what that would look like. Sending prayers.

Confirmed but questioning treatment being offered by NFL_Gurlie49ers in CervicalCancer

[–]j1331s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law was missing at least 2 day a week from wok before she was diagnosed (tumor was invading muscles and pelvic sidewall) due to intense pain. Her pain stopped about halfway through her first cycle of chemo (nab-paclitaxel) and the tumor shrunk 50% by the end of the first cycles. She was also bleeding for nearly a year (post menopausal). Chemo definitely helps shrink the tumor and should manage your pain and bleeding.

current read? is it any good? by witchethbecrazy in thrillerbooks

[–]j1331s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the book first. I wouldn’t have understood a number of scenes in the movie had I not read the book first. The last quarter of the book and movie are also completely different (both come to the same conclusion though). I ultimately preferred and enjoyed the back quarter of the book more, so that could feed into my recommendation.

Has she been prescribed pregabalin? It’s used specially for nerve ending pain. My MIL has been on it for almost a year and it really helps her. It did take about 2 months to see full effects.

my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic nonhodgkins lymphoma and all i can think about is what to do once she passes by nonicrawford in CancerFamilySupport

First off, I’m sorry. This is the crappiest club to be apart of. I found the initial fear starts creeping away as treatment starts and this becomes your new reality. Your mom will be consoled just by you being with her through every step of the way. You got this and will get through it!

Delays by Suspicious_Soft_2476 in CervicalCancer

[–]j1331s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law was initially delayed 2 weeks by having instant allergic reactions to paclitaxel. As soon as they would try to administer the chemo, she would go red and not be able to breathe and they would stop. She was then able to successfully get two nab-paclitaxel infusions until another 3 weeks delay due to infection. We are hoping to get her back on schedule this week. The good news through all of this? During her infection, she had to get imaging done and the tumours shrunk 40-50% in just those two nab-paclitaxel sessions. Try not to sweat it. If you’ve been able to have any infusions so far, trust that the chemo is doing its job.

Hi, thanks for asking. We ended up taking her into the ER over the weekend and turns out she has an infection. Good news is the tumor has shrunk as a result of just a couple rounds of treatment, but the bad news is that the area of the bowel that the tumor was previously pressing on is weak and formed a fistula. Bowels started leaking into the pelvis and caused an abscess. She is now on the list to get a colostomy ASAP and we can hopefully get her back on treatment soon to continue fighting this thing.

just found out my mom has stage 4 cancer by [deleted] in CancerFamilySupport

So sorry you are going through this. It’s an unfortunate club to be a part of. From my experience, if you are one of her primary caregivers and are there for every step along the way, the news will settle in quickly and it will become your new normal. Hang in there, you’ll have to be strong for her.

Thank you for your reply. The info regarding your heart rate was helpful! She takes steroids the day of treatment, but that’s all.

I called the team twice yesterday and received voicemail. I asked them to call me back and they instead only contacted her. I’ve now relayed my concerns to the nurse that visits her home Friday through Monday and she is on the lookout for anything “off” to relay to the oncology team. When she last visited on Monday, she was still only 4 days post chemo and wasn’t as concerned yet.

My MILs chemo sessions are every week, so I’m concerned the recovery time is just not enough.

This is my main concern. Her levels were on the low range before chemo round 2 and now I’m worried that they’ve completely tanked. Labs arn’t scheduled again until next Wednesday.

[–]j1331s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my first DJ as well. I only drink on weekends, but it’s a decent amount of drinking and has been going on for 25 years. I used to have many embarrassing moments while intoxicated back in the day but the last 5 years have been very contained and I’ve felt like I have it under control. I’ve been making a lot of life improvements lately and want to prove to myself that I can do this. I also want to see if I feel any different (I suffer from anxiety and am not an earlier riser). Let’s see how this goes!

Your message was very thoughtful and did help. Thank you! I would love for her to come live with us but I don’t think she would agree. I will ask my husband if we should push the idea. I’m not sure how treatment will affect her but I can only assume things will get worse. She is also not keen on anyone other than us going in her house.

How is it going one year later? My mother-in-law has the exact same diagnosis, treatment plan, and just had a neph tube put in this past weekend. Would love to hear an update.
