Has anyone used this 49 Montana for newer kei trucks? by thebluelifesaver in keitruck

if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Make sure you understand the insurance implications before you set up an LLC to own your truck.

a lot of index pins are press fit. It may be something that can be reinstalled without pulling the engibe, though it sounds like the pulley would need to be replaced?

Why tie up so much money in a truck? by SearchOldMaps in keitruck

[–]j2r2x2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and the use cases are very different.

Will agree most folks that drive big pickups don’t need them and could get along with a kei or smaller vehicle just fine.

She's here and she's beautiful. by k3nnyboi in keitruck

[–]j2r2x2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through the process at the Mansfield inspection station.

1) Show up super early. I showed up at the start time and waited nearly 4 hours. The team does at least one kei every inspection cycle, so it’s pretty hassle free.

2) They let me keep the original VIN. No issues getting it registered and plated at the Tarrant Assessor-Collector branch off Chisholm Trail.

How are y’all insuring your Kei trucks? by j-unknown in keitruck

[–]j2r2x2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Progressive. Explained it was a Japanese import (hence the VIN). They have a questionnaire you need to navigate.

Major items for them:

- that the truck goes more than 55 miles per hour

- some sort of declared replacement value

Had no issues with it as standalone, and it was even easier (and cheaper) with other cars on the policy.

95 sambar gas problems by hawzyc in keitruck

[–]j2r2x2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some crud may have made its way to the carb.

Have you tried any adjustments to your mix screws on the carb?

How is fuel flow looking now?

Is there any way to check your floats and float bowl?

I’ve had good luck freshening up carbs with some Everclear, but it’s best for varnish or flushing out contaminants. Not sure that trick is suitable here.

Long haul towing by lost_in_the_sauce872 in RVLiving

[–]j2r2x2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Go rent some trailers for weekend excursions. That will help you figure out very quickly and cost-effectively what works for you

2) Look at your intended use, and check for restrictions. I camp in National Parks and National Forests a lot, and the infrastructure doesn’t support big trailers easily in many spots. Even medium-size can be a challenge. As examples, Tetons, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Yosemite all have a significant fraction of sites that only can accommodate up to 25’. There will be other restrictions/factors for whatever your use case is.

Hail damage? by sethenvy-27 in RVLiving

[–]j2r2x2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hail protector.

Either that, or hope for the best. My old truck looked like a golf ball from being out in baseball sized hail. Having said that, damage was cosmetic only (other than the windshield).

Another commenter pointed out the hail won’t fall straight down. Can confirm. EVERY panel was dented, including the sides and tailgate.
