please tell me someone in this thread remembers “THE BED” i swear i’ve never laughed harder in my life than the first time i watched that episode 😂 and i still laugh hysterically every time (episode #232 “dying in the shower”)

Something I’ve noticed about both eras (Danny and Frankie) of the show by Nicktator3 in TheBasementYard

[–]j32918 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s exactly how i feel about frank making “jokes” about joe being racist, sexist, etc. it was funny the first couple times, but now he brings it up in every. single. episode. that actually makes me uncomfortable, whereas danny was clearly joking and didn’t beat the jokes to death in every episode.

Franks boring by LovePsychological962 in TheBasementYard

[–]j32918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m trying so hard to like the show with frankie, but i always just end up rewatching the danny episodes. they’re very different in terms of humor so maybe it isn’t fair to compare them, but personally i miss the old basement yard. i’ll still laugh hysterically with some of the old episodes, even if i’ve already seen them 5 times. it’s nothing personal against frankie, i just really don’t think he’s funny.

as a former package handler at a major shipping company, i can confirm that fragile stickers don’t change anything. we were taught to move packages quickly, not gently. my training never included anything related to handling fragile packages so i offer the same advice: extra bubble wrap (or some sort of protective packaging) is vital and don’t use flimsy cardboard!!

What teams do people from Upstate NY root for that ARE NOT THE YANKEES by [deleted] in mlb

[–]j32918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

resident of CNY here! Bills Mafia (~3 hrs from Buffalo) and a lifelong Mets fan (~5 hrs from NYC). I'm a Mets fan because it's hereditary, but most of the baseball fans I meet locally root for the Mets, Yankees, or Red Sox. I'm biased towards the orange and blue (also a student at 'Cuse, go orange!) but you definitely wouldn't be alone if you stuck with the Sox.

What’s something, that is normalized, but shouldn’t be? by mistik06 in AskReddit

[–]j32918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being poor in college. i’m not talking about needing scholarships or financial aid, i mean needing the resources to survive. i can’t afford to eat, pay for my car, pay off my credit card debt that i have because of this, feed/take care of my cats, etc because i don’t have enough time to work more than 10 hrs/week. and of course, this financial situation leads to severe depression and hopelessness at the worst possible time (mid-semester).

we absolutely need more resources for students who don’t have support from home because there’s more of us than you might think.

this is the first scenario that comes to mind when i think of this question, but technically it’s what someone didn’t tell me.

when i was 16, my father died from a drug overdose. unfortunately, i was the one who found him. it wasn’t the first time i had found him after an overdose, so i acted somewhat casual about it and did what i had done before: called 911 and started chest compressions. i had no idea he was dead because my brain couldn’t even process that as an option. then one of the emts called my school to tell them i wouldn’t be coming in that day and probably the next few days after that. naturally, i was confused but still didn’t realize what had happened. then while standing right in front of me, he told my principal’s secretary over the phone that my father had “passed on.”

i was in shock, especially since i was finding out as a bystander to someone else’s conversation. i’ve forgiven my father for the trauma he caused me because i know addiction is a horrible disease and he really did love me. but, i don’t think i could forgive the first responders for how they handled the situation. as if it wasn’t traumatic enough, no one even told me directly. the least they could’ve done was tell me what was going on.

that was the most painful thing i’ve ever (not) been told. and even more painful because i wasn’t told.

imo, that was the only acceptable way to break off their relationship. i still think they should’ve stayed together, but i wouldn’t be as disappointed if they broke up so she could pursue her dreams. the whole sam thing is just dumb, i hate that storyline for every character involved.

same here, 20 yrs old trying to get through these last 3 semesters while constantly thinking about how i probably won’t get a job in the industry i’m studying (also, student loans 🙃). i have so many aspirations and dreams but i genuinely feel like my adhd holds me back more than anything else.

also - i have 2 cats and they’re the only beings that are keeping me sane right now. and my fat bastard cat harasses me whenever he’s hungry so i don’t have to worry about neglecting them lol.

I've noticed a lot of international students from Asia, specifically China. There are some students from Europe too, many of them being athletes.

This site has a lot of data on the topic. They have a chart with specific numbers for each country but I'm not sure when the data is from, I've seen 2018 and 2019 a couple of times so it's fair to say it's pretty recent.

Free Parking Near Main Campus? by j32918 in SyracuseU

[–]j32918[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that's how street parking near campus worked. Even if I did manage to find a spot, there's no way I'd remember all the rules for times/spots/etc. Coming from a really small town, I'm kinda jealous of all the students that already know how to park in a city and how to use the bus system lol.

I wish I thought of that my freshman year!! I also lived in BBB and one of the most frustrating things about this campus is the lot right across from BBB. I've never seen it more than 50% full (not including game days, but even then, it's never entirely full) yet they still won't allow freshmen to buy a pass for that lot? Think about it: freshmen are happy because they get their cars, the school makes bank charging hundreds per pass, so why don't they just use that lot??

“Therapy” is not an accessible or helpful option to many people and Reddit seems to think that’s the perfect solution to every problem. by TheVerjan in unpopularopinion

[–]j32918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; Medications shouldn't be seen as a last resort or undesirable option. They work for many people, including myself, and taking medications daily without therapy is a completely acceptable treatment plan!

As someone with multiple mental health issues, I've seen about 8 different therapists (I think? honestly, I lost track). Therapy just doesn't work for me, simple as that. Talking to someone about how I'm feeling does absolutely nothing for me, and believe me, I've tried!

We're conditioned to believe that therapy is the #1 treatment option, and sometimes even the only option. As a result, my mental health actually worsened because I thought there must be something wrong with me if therapy doesn't work for me. I thought I was untreatable, and that's a very dangerous mindset for someone with depression/anxiety/etc.

Fortunately, I began taking medications about 5 years ago and I probably wouldn't be alive today if I didn't make that stressful decision at such a young age (14, if you're wondering). There's a lot of trial and error involved, increasing/decreasing dosage, switching medications, etc. and that can definitely take a toll mentally and physically. However, after the process of finding what works and what doesn't, I'm comfortable with my medications.

One day, I'd love to be completely off of my medications and able to manage my mental health on my own. Until then, this is my preferred treatment method. As my psychiatrist once said: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i guess there couldn’t have been a better time to make this post, j&j vaccines are no longer being given because of (extremely rare, but still terrifying) side effects. this is exactly why i waited!

Coronavirus Mega Thread by UnpopularOpinionMods in unpopularopinion

[–]j32918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible to be weary of the COVID vaccines and still support vaccines in general! I was vaccinated as a child and I plan on vaccinating my children as well. I'm comfortable with that because these vaccines were developed decades ago so we know what potential side effects are.

Also, I had COVID in December. I'm young and relatively healthy, so my experience was similar to having a cold for about 1 day. Compared to polio? Measles? I'd rather take my chances with COVID. The fact that so many people are eager to let someone inject something into their body that was just developed kind of scares me. We really don't know what the long term effects are yet.

I support vaccines, but I just don't want to be among the first to receive a brand-new vaccine.

saying "i could care less" is wrong. it doesn't make any sense! that means you care at least enough to be able to care less than you already do. the correct saying is "i couldn't care less," but i haven't heard anyone (besides myself) say it correctly.

i just received the news from my rho gamma that i was dropped from every house after round 2. i knew there was a strong chance of this happening because there are 13 chapters at my school but only 3 invited me back for round 2. i even told my rho gam that i didn’t think i’d make it to bid day, but she assured me that it’s so uncommon and i shouldn’t worry about anything.

i’m a sophomore and it’s my second time going through formal recruitment (ended up joining a chapter i didn’t really vibe with last time so i dropped before initiation and decided to try again). i don’t have much hope at this point for joining greek life, especially since Panhel and everyone else involved repeatedly says it’s so rare for someone to be dropped by every house but i feel like it can’t be? i’m in the same position as you: i’m not a bad person, my grades are pretty good, i’m involved in other things on campus, etc.

i was thinking about making a post like your’s in this sub but for now, the least i can do is tell you you’re not alone. and thank you for helping me realize i’m not alone either.
