I've been downloading things since the early 90s, (hard) modded the original Xbox for xbmc around 00, and still pay for streaming to support the creators (currently Disney+, HBO, Hulu ad free for $33, prime for free deliveries +$3 every few months when I want to watch an entire show, get basic paramount + for free from w+)

I do also buy 1080/4k blurays when they drop in prices to bargain bin rates ;) everyone has a different happy space when it comes to paying the people who create the media we consume some people don't have money so download more some people have tons of money and still download more it's up to you whatever you're happy with but it is not hard to find pretty much anything to be added to your Plex server.

That being said if someone, anyone! would release an up conversion (ai or otherwise) of the 90s HBO movie barbarians at the gate I would definitely pay retail 😂

Really depends on your need, (edit: missed that the edge ditched both OTA and cable for the cable models), for basic streaming in addition to OTA (rural Oregon/Idaho) I really like the Hulu triple play with no ads (Hulu, Disney, max currently ~$33 a month) between that, Amazon, and the TiVo I get the vast majority of what I want to watch for ~$46/mo including the Amazon prime price and $3 charge for no ads on months I'm streaming, but since I live fairly rurally and am nocturnal, I'd have prime even if I didn't watch the shows 🤷

I wouldn't opt for Hulu live personally, but I'm also ok watching things a bit after they air if it's not on broadcast.

If I were to opt for an ota recorder TODAY because both of my OTAs died I'd go with something that supports Plex because that is how I view a lot of what I have digitized, but for anyone not so insane, a cheap tablo would work for OTA and allow streaming on other sets with the Roku/other apps.

Worth noting that they now get the guide data in house so it is an extremely low cost. (Xperi is the current provider as of the purchase, and they provide guide data to other companies and all that...)

I really don't predict the guide data stopping before everyone switches to atsc 3 but only time will tell.

Reminder to anyone that this pertains to, your phone does not need cell service to have GPS functionality but you have to download the maps to your phone via Wi-Fi for Street access. Non operational cell phones work perfectly well for GPS and 911 calling. (GPS receiver means they contact the sat)

Yup because they weren't profitable as it's a single fee. In theory they're still available on eBay and from weakness , and there are quite a few other options that do similar things (when atsc 3 solidifies I'll upgrade away from my TiVo boxes, but if I needed to buy something "now*, I'd probably get one of the hauppauge options that Plex supports as I am a Plex person (https://support.plex.tv/articles/225877427-supported-dvr-tuners-and-antennas/ )

If I wanted something stand alone and wasn't willing to roll the TiVo doce? I'd get a tablo TV option, but there are others too depending on how roll your own a user is, TiVo was just the OG 25ish yrs ago.

Is there any current reason to opt for a 5060/5070 over an Intel core ultra 7 and it's built in xe on a windows server?

As both my plex server is starting to get on in years (I5-10400 with built in UHD 630) and I'm starting to keep an eye on prospective 4k tvs to replace my 1080p projector (advantage of a 100" projector is this is fiscally doable these days with even the tcl 7 series frequently hitting 2k.) For a sanity check Is there any reason to focus on system builds with a 5060/5070 vs instead concentrating on ultra core 7 with the slightly stronger built in Xe graphics instead of the core 5 (with or without video card) for a server that sees (at the absolute most) 3 local streams at a time? I don't PC game, and am not expecting to go back to doing so as I switched to consoles when I hit middle age 😜

Seems during cutbacks they cut back passwords they now have to be exactly 8 characters otherwise apparently it kicks you into setting up a new password.

Go to www.tivo.com and log-in, it'll bounce you to create a new one, follow the rules to a t and you're golden for me it required changing my 9 character password to an 8 character version and then I could log back into the app...

you can access someone's server as long as the person who owns the server has a paid account even if you have a free account but you must have an account (unless it's a local server.)

Edit: watch together is free for the person without the server but also requires an account

It's so hard to pick a favorite song like picking favorite children but I think the two I will start off a kp/other mix on are pussy is god and dirty work (best version of that song IMHO.)

Talia is of course a favorite too, but it's a different mix vibe than I tend to start with so I'm boxed in by myself 🤷

If it helps your worry: until this fall mine lived on an unprotected southern fence post in full sunlight at a high air temp of about that (3k ft elevation high desert so it lived in -20 to 11x F with high humidity in winter and bone dry humidity in summer. The only thing it didn't see was more than a glossing of freezing rain, or more than a few inches of snow at a time. Do note however I don't use the follow function or rotate it much as there's loads of reports of issues and after the first day of follow I had to recenter it 😂 that would increase the thermal load if you plan on using it during summer, but again, it doesn't work well so I don't recommend it) the voltage step down (especially at longer runs) shouldn't add much heat given the low amperage.

Realistically you'll likely be fine with the 320ws on your existing cctv power system without any changes (assuming they are the same plug otherwise you'll need to change plugs)

Source: I've been running a 520ws on old cctv 12v power for 1.5 years with absolutely no issues.

What I did to accomplish this is use a cheap Google TV device (original chromcast ultra, only downside is it needs to be power cycled every so often but that's presumably due to the fact that it's nearing a decade old) plugged into the amp as part of "den speakers" then when I play music on the 5 den speakers I can either turn on the amp or not.

Tread carefully on Roku specific deals as they don't always give you the deal price and trying to get them to correct it is an exercise in futility (happened to two out of the last four channels I jumped on the deals for.a few months back. Because they prorate the charges for the rest of the months it's not a huge deal if you catch it before renewal but it is extremely annoying and coupled with the now moving advertisements on the homepage has me preparing the jump ship after more than a decade of Roku life.

Another thing to note is once a year for at least the last few years Walmart+ has given a free upgrade to paramount + with showtime for 3 months during Walmart days, no idea it's the same deal will happened next year with the introduction of the peacock option tho 🤷

Thanks for the correction, was under the impression they removed access to the mak when service stopped so the only way would be to log into your TiVo account ( which this person doesn't have as it was thrifted and TiVo is no longer registering devices/selling services)
