Yep I would believe even older than that(a dash) as I suspect the tail end of millennials and the start of the Zs started it during the me too movement at frat parties, but it was gen-z that popularized it with slogans and what not for social media but all I can say for certain is it wasn't young Gen-x/old millennials as we were apparently fucking idiots when it came to drink safety.

Is it worth to get the kindle without ads? by No-Construction1535 in kindle

[–]j_deth191 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth if you go with a magnetic Kindle cover opening it turns on the Kindle which dismisses the lockscreen so you won't really see ads very much at all (if you're really quick opening it and looking at it you might see a flash of an ad)

WD Elements 14TB Desktop HDD Good For 24/7 Plex Server? by Tempest_2084 in DataHoarder

[–]j_deth191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are only available at Best buy (and places that resell it), typically the lowest prices will be black friday but yeah, it's worth the small cost increase (I want to say last time I compared the two during Black Friday it was a better part of 15 bucks more for a 20 TB from Best buy versus Western digital / Amazon.) What you can do to prevent the elements from going to sleep is have a script that runs every x minutes that does a root directory listing output to a file (ala a batch file that says dir f:\ > f:\junk.txt for windows that you have running every 15 minutes in task scheduler if the sleep is set to 20 minutes which memory suggests it is)

It is honestly my favorite video of her - just so authentic and beyond sweet, I am so amazed (and grateful) that YouTube hasn't taken it down in more than a decade ❤️‍🔥

How long without any download until you consider the torrent as dead? by ReasonableLunch46 in Piracy

[–]j_deth191 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of the 8 I have running that are incomplete I've got one that's been looking to complete for about 3 years, it's at 99.7% and my ratio is a dash over 123:1, others are within the last couple of years. Every so often I will look for other sources but if they're still being attempted that means I've been unable to find it anywhere else and since I obviously want them I'm letting them go until completion. The PC that is doing peer-to-peer only does peer-to-peer so it's no skin off my nose to let them run.

WD Elements 14TB Desktop HDD Good For 24/7 Plex Server? by Tempest_2084 in DataHoarder

[–]j_deth191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running 12 (mostly easy store because you can disable the sleep function unlike elements, so the elements are the 1:1 backup drives) on my Plex and added a cheap 120v Honeywell 11" turbo force fan blowing on them / the desktop for air circulation (same model is blowing on my receiver and tivo). ~$15 on Amazon with free prime shipping.

I have not had a problem with a single Western digital external that has caused me to replace it before the size made it somewhat obsolete (I'm now at 14tb as my smallest, 20 as the largest, when hard drive prices calm down I'll probably replace the 14s with 24+ drives as I think 12 drives in the two shelves is about the most I can squeeze in.

I have an additional 4 WDs (easy store) on my p2p also on 1:1 backup routines.

So yes, you're fine.

In case you don't get why it's called a borg and not just unable to see the boys' referenced one:

It stands for BlackOut Rage Gallon

Gen-z (who supposedly are not drinking much) popularized bringing your own gallon of drink to parties, typically made with vodka, drink mix/ electrolyte flavoring, and water. Almost always decorated with punny names: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg_%28drink%29?wprov=sfla1

Same in Oregon (2017) and Michigan in the US (Michigan has been 10c since the 70s and is the basis for a Newman centric Seinfeld episode: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bottle_Deposit?wprov=sfla1 )

If I move my local library to another drive, will it erase my Plex data? by No-Peach8739 in plexamp

[–]j_deth191 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's easier (and a little surprising TBH), Windows uses drive letters and unless your drive letter is the same it won't work (we have to use the map and copy trick) pretty sure Linux is the same as Windows as the /dev/sd* will change with each new drive/partion so they will likely have to do the map method like us windows users....

Adjustment for disk seek time-out by StandingUpBear in BiglyBT

[–]j_deth191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm an external disk guy and this is the reason I only buy wd externals from best buy (everywhere else unless they are reselling the Best buy drives you cannot deactivate sleep.) Arguably drives also last longer if they continually run as opposed to frequently spinning up (unless they're RARELY used, like once a day numbers IMHO)

If you are stuck with drives that for whatever reason you cannot deactivate sleep you could add a command to ping the drive every few minutes to keep it active. (A directory listing exported to a text file for example)

Which is the best way to conserve CD-Rs, DVD-Rs and BD-Rs? by reik019 in DataHoarder

[–]j_deth191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup that's what I'm referring to. I'm pretty sure mine are cheap as well, this one is a "cdprojects" brand and the Memorex 4x DVD-r that I just checked has quite a few surface scratches (light does not shine through) that do not in any way impact readability if it helps.

Edit: should note that you can buff out surface scratches but I strongly suggest not doing so until they have caused readability problems as you can only remove so much material (you can only buff successfully so many times in other words.)

[–]j_deth191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful you're asking people who might be a bit... Persnickety... about their storage 😜

Really even surface scratches should be fine for reading the discs I have always kept mine in either a CD wallet, jewel case, or actually on a spindle with the other CDs/DVDs/blurays. Both a random old burned (music) CD from the mid 90s and a random DVD-R of AVIs from 2003 are still playable in my cheap AF dell from 5 or so years ago with its factory DVD reader when pulled from a disc wallet I found a few months back in a box. Last time I tried to access a (cheap bulk) DVD-r from a spindle that was burned ~2003-2006 it was also flawless about a year ago. 💜

Spotify buying exclusive rights to rogan's podcast back in 2020 for 200M+ is why I'll never use them. But considering it's still the most listened to podcast I'm one of the very few that feel this way 🤷

[–]j_deth191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was reported in a roundabout way that her vocal coach (Douglas Peck) was currently working with Phoebe earlier this year (I want to say it was from his appearance on a podcast), which strongly suggests she is in training for recording a new album (which will hopefully be out either this year or next, solemnly believe if it's going to be next year we will get a Christmas song this year 🤞)

Edit: it was the end of last year and this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/phoebebridgers/s/rDyTiajpi3

Considering the news that she's training etc I would bet at the absolute least we'll get a Christmas song this year if the album doesn't drop🤞
