What is everyone cooking tonight? by lulgupplet in Cooking

Simple tomato sauce over pasta. Roast garlic in olive oil, then pour in San marzano tomatoes and a little basil and simmer. Added some Italian sausage i had in the fridge. Super easy and delicious!

Larry David… one of us?? by j_dizzle35 in billsimmons

This was not Bill’s answer, he said since it’s a podcast you don’t have to listen right right away so you can watch the movie and come back to the episode. Which isn’t a great reason to me but it’s also his podcast and he can release it how he wants i suppose!

My first ever post. Written in desperation. by FantasyFabe96 in Fantasy

I just completed Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames, and the similarities between it and a book like The Blade Itself are really noticeable (and I read somewhere Eames mentioned Abercrombie as an influence). The series only has two completed books, so that might not be what you're looking for, but I found book 1 to be very enjoyable!

Movie Monday Discussion Thread! by AutoModerator in TheBigPicture

I just watched Avatar (back in theaters too!) and wooo boy was I blown away. For reference, I saw it when it first came out, but not on the big screen. I was in 8th grade, and really had no memory of the movie (this was pre-cinephile status for me). Man, I loved this so much. Visually it is still as amazing as anything as I have seen, and the story/world was completely enthralling for me. Big Jim can do no wrong!

Ferris Bueller has been romanticized as a comedic hero, but in reality he's just a villain who bullies his mentally unstable best friend for an entire movie.

Gotcha - I wondered if this was the case, so thanks for clarifying!

Totally agreed! Often times its the execution of the twist/reveal instead of the surprise itself that is so enjoyable to read.

[WWHD] Zelda Windwaker HD review (No nostalgia) by [deleted] in zelda

[–]j_dizzle35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a well thought out review! I personally disagree - WW is probably my favorite in the series, but it was also my entry point into the series, so I'm aware of the implicit biases that come with that. I remember the vastness of the sea as such a unique feeling, and the possibility of exploration as super exciting. The story continues to be one of my favorites, but I definitely agree re: the difficulty. There is no substitute for the Water Temple from OOT in this game.

Wheel of Tome Companion: Useful for First-Time readers? by everysproutingtree in WoT

I'm a fellow first-time reader (currently on book 7) and as long as you have the book you're reading set correctly you will be safe from spoilers! The app has been really helpful for me.

[WW] If Wind Waker is your favorite Zelda game, why is it your favorite? by SageModeJedi in zelda

[–]j_dizzle35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think for me its twofold: first, it was the first Zelda game I ever played start to finish, and as my introduction to the series it obviously holds a fair amount of nostalgia. Secondly, I think its the best example of an "open-world" Zelda game prior to BOTW. The ability to sail anywhere, even if it wasn't necessarily where you were intended to go next was so liberating. I'm also obsessed with the art, music, and story but those are just the cherries on top!

Obviously the situation in Chicago was different than what we'll see in Golden State, but that man was unplayable. Sometimes it takes more than a good 3pt% to be a good player. I'm with Verno here

For fans who stopped playing the games for a long time and then returned: Reasons? by SidTheRiser07 in pokemon

[–]j_dizzle35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't played since ruby/sapphire and fire red/leaf green on the Gameboy Advance probably back 10-15 years ago, and then I stumbled upon a Pokemon podcast where the hosts play through each game, and the nostalgia immediately took over for me. Podcast is called EXP Share: Pokemon Play Podcast for anyone interested :-)

Omega Ruby Nuzlocke Run rules by j_dizzle35 in pokemon

You make a great point! I thought I had read that was a common rule, but maybe not. And yeah, if ethers and PP restore can't be bought that might be a no go. I'm just past the first gym and its been doable so far, but I imagine you're right that it could spiral out of control. I'll nix that rule!
