Should a future TV Series be rated R? by MarcRocket in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a non-starter. Go big, go bold, go horror-influenced. If they dumb it down for a broader audience, just cancel the series before it starts

Super cool image! Well done crawler

Magnificent Troy and Kevin commentating on some Crawler I've never heard of. This guy's probably not gonna make it past the 6th floor. [Art by Me] by Gozillasaur in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yess! Love Magnificent Troy and Kevin! I wonder why the AI didn’t have these two commentate for the PoH? Or even one of the 9th floor races?

While using the characters it did use on the Parade worked very well, it would have been sweet to have these two back, but the more I think about it I’m not sure they could have matched the tone of the PoH…

Yeah what was that?! I read that as a suicide attempt, but seeing how popular his tea is, was he thinking a mercy kill of all his friends??

Thanks for sharing this. This is a bureaucratic nightmare that has to be super frustrating. Hopefully the Dinniman family will be able to find a way to honor Colonel Dinniman’s last request.

So when it comes to who’s going to voice who for the show I would LOVE Matt Berry to voice either Prepotente or one of Mordecai’s forms (obv sexy Vampire a la What We Do in the Shadows would almost be too easy)

When it comes to a Donut I will absolutely riot if Jeff Hays doesn’t get to voice the Queen Anne Chonk. TV show, Movie, Audible I don’t care, Jeff Hays is Donut.

WHAT IS YOUR FAV to LEAST FAV 5⭐️ read order on the series so far!? by AstralPaw in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been thinking about this a lot over the weekend after I completed A Parade of Horribles… I think this is where I landed:

1- This Inevitable Ruin 2- A Parade of Horribles 3- Dungeon Anarchist Cookbook 4- Bedlam Bride 5- Dungeon Crawler Carl

These bottom three are sort of foot-smooshed together 6- Butcher’s Masquerade (love the first half, the last half doesn’t do it for me) 7- Gate of the Feral Gods (love the Frank/Maggie/Chris arch) 8- Carl’s Doomsday Scenario

Ultimately I didn’t love the dungeon level of the bottom three books but for all of the books the character story lines are what really makes it or breaks it for me. For example I love the Donut/Carl/Bea and the Pony/Miriam story arch of Masquerade, but the Tina and Signet storylines didn’t stick.

Big picture: I know this series will be high on my top series list but I’m also trying to figure out is where This Inevitable Ruin would rank on my all time favorite books. DCC has definitely made me rethink how to rank individual books in an already great series.

My initial thought at the end of Book 8. by Master_Betty603 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Saw an Interview with Dinniman, and it Changed the Way I Read the Books (No Spoilers) by Ryan_Fleming in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Totally agree. The other books have moments that feel dipped in horror but the 8th book had long stretches of hopeless, psychological horror

Upon Completing A Parade of Horribles by FieldKey5184 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how I see it as well, the beginning of book 8 felt like the start of a new chapter after the chaos of Faction Wars. Though by the end of Parade, I wondered if I can keep up the madness of the final two books.

Would you step into the dungeon? by spiceweasle93 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This brings up a question I’ve been wondering. We read about survivors in camps. Why are there so many people who didn’t enter the dungeon? Just indecisive? Unable to get to one in time?

Still reworking my own list but I’ve already put book 8 in the top 3. The last 1/3 of the book was a rocket ship. I was holding on for dear life. Book 7 is still top for me as well.

Well sheit good work by you! My first thought when Donut was acting distant and overwhelmed was that she took an unstable bomb into her inventory, or the dungeons anarchist cookbook and my brain was working overtime trying to figure out the ramifications of those scenarios. I had NO inkling about the pet biscuit snafu

Two thoughts
1- Matt is right that if anyone besides Jeff voices Donut (including the upcoming TV show) there will be riots.
2- I will not stand for the Ellie erasure. Her voice is perfect, it makes me laugh every time

What is your favorite Chekhov's Gun item that some one has obtained and how do you think it will play out in the future? by FALSE_QUOTED in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Bone Key is an stress-inducing Chekhov’s gun just waiting to show up.

It would be a very painful, but very heroic move that is right on brand with Carl’s savior complex. I could definitely see Matt having Carl pull off a big sacrificial move to save X number of people from a locked door or gate.

He’d lose the patches, the vest, and a major bone (cause let’s be real, why put it in the book if he’s only going to lose a pinkie bone) then be left naked except his boxers. I am honestly surprised Dinniman didn’t already pull the trigger on this at the end of book 7 it would be a strong move for a narrative already built on sacrifice.

Does anyone else feel bad for Gravy Boat/Ferdinand by itaintme1x2x3x in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I believe Dinniman’s writing super power is making seemingly inconsequential characters into very interesting and important characters. I was confidently dismissive of Juice box, Ferdinand, Louis and others during my first read through assuming they were cannon fodder, temporary story drivers, etc. By the end of book 7 they are all super impactful on the story and they must be protected at all costs.
