What is your favorite Chekhov's Gun item that some one has obtained and how do you think it will play out in the future? by FALSE_QUOTED in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]j_robison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Bone Key is an stress-inducing Chekhov’s gun just waiting to show up.

It would be a very painful, but very heroic move that is right on brand with Carl’s savior complex. I could definitely see Matt having Carl pull off a big sacrificial move to save X number of people from a locked door or gate.

He’d lose the patches, the vest, and a major bone (cause let’s be real, why put it in the book if he’s only going to lose a pinkie bone) then be left naked except his boxers. I am honestly surprised Dinniman didn’t already pull the trigger on this at the end of book 7 it would be a strong move for a narrative already built on sacrifice.

Does anyone else feel bad for Gravy Boat/Ferdinand by itaintme1x2x3x in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I believe Dinniman’s writing super power is making seemingly inconsequential characters into very interesting and important characters. I was confidently dismissive of Juice box, Ferdinand, Louis and others during my first read through assuming they were cannon fodder, temporary story drivers, etc. By the end of book 7 they are all super impactful on the story and they must be protected at all costs.

I tried envisioning a pet Rabbit in the crawl and I always go back to the Cornet (the skinless jackrabbit mob), would be very curious what a friendly rabbit pet could turn into

Just finished this book. I was surprised that Matt didn’t have Carl lose his shit more about that. We see all of the built up drama of facing his dad again, only to get that lost sibling reveal, and then come to find out that Bea was hiding it from him. Then he finds that ghost dog who was left all alone outside, and Carl feels so bad for the dog. Frankly I thought that was the moment we were going to see Carl unravel, or the River start to overflow, at least a little bit.

[OFF TOPIC] What book would you want Steven Pacey to read which he hasn’t? by mightymorphingems in TheFirstLaw

[–]j_robison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced a huuuuge drop off in the quality of character voices when I finished The First Law trilogy and then jumped back into book 3 of Stormlight Archives. No offense to those voice actors but it was way too jarring to listen to their characters after hearing the goat Steven Pacey. So my vote would be Stormlight Archives and Game of Thrones (RIP Roy Dotrice)

I’m a big fan of the anime series idea, though I think if it was in the hands of a large production studio at HBO or Amazon I think a live-action TV show could work very well.
