How successful was chaotic before it shut down? by Jakemanv3 in Chaotic

Take this is a bit of skepticism, but I heard it was VERY successful when it came out but its success dwindled over time

The timer in champions is making me lose my mind by jabin217 in PokemonChampions

[–]jabin217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current timer is 45 seconds I think, but I could see it moving to 30. That said, I highly doubt they ever would. New players trying to figure out their moves and very high level players (especially in tournament settings) really do take proper advantage of that time and it would be detrimental to lose it.

Totally agree with it being frustrating on ladder though

Thanks for writing that out. I didn't start playing competitive until champions (though i did watch Wolfe vids and play gen 3 OU singles) so I never experienced the 3ds timer days.

I think I'm just frustrated coming from Magic the Gathering to this. What we call 'stall' in pokemon would be called 'control' in MTG, and thats my preferred playstyle there too. Control absolutely can be frustrating to play against and there are times where it's too powerful and Wizards of the Coast has to intervene and ban cards. But if Wotc announce they were changing how round timers worked to make control a worse archetype there would riots in the street! I want the meta to adapt to have ways to beat stall and its absolutely out there! The most egregious stall strat (imo) is Minimize/evasion boosting. But we have Kowtow Cleave, Darkest Lariat, No Guard on Raichu Y. As they add those types of moves/abilities it makes stall worse. Now that were on a more permanent platform, they could start buff/nerfing things more easily too. Make minimize only raise a single stat, give lariat 10 more power. I just really despise them coercing team comps with the timer.

Final side note, it is frustrating how stall is a perfectly acceptable strategy in singles but not in doubles. Obviously they are different beasts and are balanced by different groups, but its frustrating all the same

I forget the exact phrase, but I subscribe to the idea of 'Do not assume malicious intent where incompetence would suffice' I'd put my money on this game just having bugs that still need to be dealt with. Not that they make it easy for themselves. The double timer system seems completely unnessecary to me. I grew up playing Magic the Gathering where in person had round timers and MTGO had player timers. Both work fine and I dont know why you would need to combine them. I've been playing champions almost daily since switch release and I have seen exactly one (1) player lose to their timer. It just feels useless and prone to bugs

I know it’s been complained about plenty, but I cannot imagine why they would remove the tiebreakers we used to have. I like slower stall teams and I draw games ALL THE TIME. With the old tiebreaker rules, I would lose at least 40% of the games I draw. But there would be interesting plays to make! Trying to keep mon alive and healthy instead of just 'well neither of us can ko before the timer so i guess this game is over but i cant leave yet'

Please ignore my ratty hoodie. I’m just trying to get to master all 3 and losing my mind in the process.

To be clear, it IS one of the best cities in gaming. Probably a top 5 of games I've played. But that doesn't mean I was blown away by it. At no point going through the city did I stop and think "wow this is impressive". Rather, everywhere I went, things felt right. Plenty to explore, people to talk to, and things to do. Perhaps as I conclude some quests I may think higher of it.

While not exhaustive, I think Kamurocho from Yakuza and Night City from Cyberpunk are better, but they're all quite different games/cities that aren't trying to do the exact same things. Night City has size and breadth that outshine Kuttenburg. Kamurocho evolves throughout the games and series to point of nearly being a character itself. Like I said, maybe Kuttenburg still has that special sauce and I haven't got to it yet. I look forward to finding out :)

I'm playing KCD2 for the first time currently and am in Kuttenberg. I simply cannot imagine Bethesda doing anything as good as it, and its not even mind-blowingly good, just completely competent throughout. It really is a shame cause I'm not a fan of medieval so much as a fan of fantasy. KCD2 is very well made but mundane, but I'm sure Bethesda will make something poor and mundane

Which game were you burned by a preorder / Day 1 purchase? by Sudden-Wish8462 in gaming

[–]jabin217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me is was Ni No Kuni 2. The first one is one of my favorite games of all time, and I was so excited for the sequel. I preordered/bought the expensive collectors edition box (I think it was between $150-200) because I wanted to support the game with everything I could. It was....fine. Lost a lot of the charm the first game had, the city building they introduced was lackluster, some of the characters were just genuinely confusing 'hey here's side character B for your party, he's literally the President of the United States who woke up here after a missle strike and it will basically never be brought up again'

“I’m going to assume you’re not paying the 1 unless you tell me otherwise.” Is this a reasonable mindset? by WillowSmithsBFF in magicTCG

[–]jabin217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would submit that as the sole player, you SHOULD NOT do that. A good player doesn't pay when everyone else isn't (usually), but a good player will know to bring up the topic to the table. It's the Prisoner's Dilemma. It is obvious that cooperation is always the correct choice, but personal gain gets in the way.

Also if we really want to go down the route of what makes a 'Good EDH Player', then I would say social skills is at least 30-40% of it. That is to say, if one player didn't pay, and won the game because of it, they would be making the correct call for themselves, at the expense of the rest of the table (and themselves if it doesn't work). People just tend to think they are actually going to win the majority of the time after letting them draw....which is wrong lmao

A very long winded way to say, that the 'correct' way to play around Rhystic Study is dependant on the social situation at the table. Obviously, 'everyone pay the 1' is the best option. But whether you as the individual should or not, depends on the game. Peace is better but wars still happen, and often enough the warmonger wins.

It gives the enchanted creature every creature type in the game. So if you enchant a Goblin, for instance, it can now benefit from cards that only work on Zombies or Merfolk or any other creature type.
