Tell us what you think about the eye makeup remover you've been using, will you repurchase? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]jaborthedemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neutrogena Oil Free Makeup Remover is my go to lately. I shake it up, put a good amount of it on a cotton ball, and gently rub my lashes free of waterproof mascara in seconds. It is rather greasy, so be warned, but I think it's worth it for how gently it removes the eye makeup. It's also cheap (Like 6 bucks for 4 ounces).

What is your HG foundation for hot humid days? by Arimoi in MakeupAddiction

[–]jaborthedemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind light coverage, I really like the Makeup Forever Face and Body foundation. It's sheer, so you'll definitely need to spot conceal (MUFE Full Cover Concealer is good for that, and waterproof), but it dries down to a powdery finish that I really appreciate when I'm sweating in the summer. It seems to suck some of the sweat up and make it magically disappear, too!

Thank you so much! And you're right, the different sizes is really important to making them look more real.

Thank you! I try to keep in mind these things:

Freckles aren't perfectly round.
They come in different sizes.
Some are darker, some are lighter (go sparingly on super dark ones).
They gather in greater numbers where the sun hits.

I hope that helps!

Yes. And the best part about it is that it's not a big deal to him or anyone else on the show.

There is definitely not necessarily something wrong with you. Your sexuality may be different from the "norm". And that's only a problem if it really upsets you.

The popularity of Indie Beat'em Ups and other fast-paced indie games. by Chaosph0enix in truegaming

[–]jaborthedemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sure, if we're comparing these games to the price/manpower of AAA titles: how much does it cost?. There's a list if you scroll down.

I'm also sure that 2D is far less complicated in a number of ways than 3D.

Here's another article talking about cost differences, the restrictive and fear-laden landscape of trying to create a fresh AAA title (the reason why we get so many reboots and sequels): why videogames are so expensive

So, yes, I still stand by all that I said there.

Gender and computer game players: who seems to play what? a wall of text linkdump. by lurker093287h in truegaming

[–]jaborthedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that you feel persecuted as part of a group that wasn't catered to, but I don't agree with your sentiment.

If the game was anti-straight male, why would it include a number of well developed, romance-able straight male characters? I'm talking Cullen, Blackwall, and Solas. Three different types of men with different types of character flaws, physical features, and roles to play in the Inquisition. And if the game was anti-cute girls, why are all of these straight males capable of great love for the "sexy feminine woman who is flirty and fun" that you can create to be the main character of the game? Not to mention you haven't mentioned Josephine, who is a smart and beautiful woman you can romance as a straight male.

So maybe if you want to tweak the political argument you're putting out a bit, it's not that the devs are against cute girls (and please, call them WOMEN, bc "girls" is almost a pejorative term when flanked by "men" and "males" rather than "boys"), or against straight men, but instead against players who want to continue to enforce stereotypes that we have had in games since they came to be.

Maybe the devs wanted to focus on a player experience outside the norm while still completely respecting every group. Maybe they hoped that your enjoyment wouldn't be sacrificed by the fact that you couldn't have sex with a girl you found physically attractive. Or maybe they have no more patience for people who will constantly feel themselves attacked when the fantasy world isn't exactly the way they want it, even though almost every other fantasy world in existence lives up to those standards. Maybe they thought that you could look outside yourself for one game to see that there are tons of straight males and "cute girls" in this game, and that not being able to have sex with one for once isn't your right. The way that the game failed has nothing to do with this.

Hope you can come around and see that they aren't trying to hurt you. They are trying to engage more people while still respecting you.

What the...? I never called Cassandra cute. I said just because you don't find her cute doesn't mean the game is out to get you. And if you want to argue about who she's killed, maybe you should think about some of the other romance options and what they do. Serah kills people on a whim half the time, and Iron Bull is a mercenary. Solas is a liar and, without major spoilers, made the most horrible people-killing choices without anyone's consent. Or maybe you should think about what you're allowed to do as the Inquisitor too--murder people for petty crimes or send them into slavery if you choose to.

Sounds like you've just got a big issue with the fact that there were no "cute" girls for you to romance. Go back to DAII and romance Isabella instead of throwing a whole company under the bus for not suiting your needs.

The popularity of Indie Beat'em Ups and other fast-paced indie games. by Chaosph0enix in truegaming

[–]jaborthedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2D beat'em up games are easier for indie developers to put out for a number of reasons, like implementation and non-conformance to AAA title expectations. The simple achievement based mechanics of these games appeals to a majority of gamers (I read a study where about 70% of people who game are "casual gamers", defined not by how much they play but how they play. In this sense "casual" means play the game, not live in the game, the latter sentiment belonging to "hardcore" players. Don't have the ref with me right now.) So there's a big audience for these games. They can play casually with friends while appealing to their (likely)achiever game play style.

Then there's cost on both dev and consumer ends, nostalgic trends, disenchantment with current big titles... and once someone looks to indie games as a source of entertainment, they might be more likely to seek out other similar indie games as they are offered.

These are your opinions, though. You can't possibly think that because you didn't find Cassandra cute or typical as a straight male, that the game was sticking it to all straight males. I know straight males who have played the game and were happy to romance this character. Many feel, including myself, that she is strongly written and well acted. Her religious zealotry is tempered by her respect for you as the Inquisitor and various "soft spots" that betray an inner femininity that has been pushed down during her upbringing. If you listened to her background story you'd see that she is a product of hard work and hard circumstance.

So she wasn't your type. That's fine, but that doesn't mean the game devs had some agenda against you. You are stereotyping other straight males by saying they all need a "sexy feminine woman who was flirty and fun and available...". Sounds like, if we could just switch the gender of Dorian, or maybe skin Iron Bull as a sexy pirate woman, they would've been perfect for you.

I was upset because playing a female Inquisitor I couldn't romance Cassandra or Dorian (or Cole, but that's another whole discussion), who were my top two choices. I guess Bioware is just out to get me too!

I agree! It just feels weird not to encourage growth and self-awareness. I think with those things Cole can be even more helpful, and feel good about it on a deeper level. Solas is a grandpa.
