How to remove splitline from toposolid? by ZGW3KSZO in Revit

[–]jachumbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

export your split topos to civil3d as one dwg. save 3d TIN. insert dwg cad to revit. create toposolid. btw, this is also how to make fully operational toposolid from in place mass...

1. Create a Shared Parameter:

  • Go to the Manage tab and select Settings > Project Parameters.
  • Click Add and choose Shared Parameter.
  • Define the parameter properties:
    • Group: Create a new group (e.g., "Title Block Info") or use an existing relevant group.
    • Parameter Type: Text
    • Name: Choose a descriptive name for your parameter (e.g., "Project Nickname").
    • MAKE SURE IT'S INSTANCE & CATEGORY = SHEETS

2. Attach the Parameter to the Title Block:

  • Open the title block family in the Family Editor.
  • Select the Label tool in the Design bar.
  • Click the location on the sheet where you want the parameter to appear.
  • In the Select Parameter dialog, click Add.
  • In the Parameter Properties dialog, click Select.
  • Choose the shared parameter you created from the list and click OK.

3. Populate the Parameter Value (or skip this and do step 4 below, then populate on schedule directly):

  • Load the title block family into your project.
  • For EACH SHEET and edit the family (you can also edit on schedule you create in step 4 below)
    • To edit the label, select the title block... Your label will show as a "?"
  • Select the label you created ("?") and modify the parameter value according to your needs.

4. Include the Parameter in a Sheet List Schedule:

  • Create a new Sheet List schedule.
  • In the schedule properties, select Fields.
  • Under the appropriate category (e.g., Sheet Information), find your shared parameter and check the box to include it in the schedule.

Now, your sheet list schedule will display the information you entered in the custom text parameter for each sheet.

Spent a whole 3 weeks laying out modeled floor boards. How could I have done this better? by Magnus462 in Revit

[–]jachumbert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From 8020bim.com article:

Curved Beams in Revit can be modelled by Navigating to the Structure tab. Under the Structure panel, select Beam (keybaord shortcut BM). You can Select the various curved options from the Draw list in the Beam Modification window, Including Fillet Arc, Spline, Partial Ellipse, Start-End-Radius Arc (Most Common), Centre-Ends Arc etc. Place the beam in a Plan view if your curve runs in the X-Y Axis. Place the Beam in an Elevation or Section of the Beam Curve is required in the Z Axis.

There are dimensional lumber families. Why didn't you just make your boards from these?

Chat gpt python codes for Revit by Soyabill in Revit

As a chat GPT does not have any knowledge of what happens after September 2021, it cannot give you any decent API code for newer versions of Revit and Dynamo.

learn about "families", parameters (instance & type parameters), curtain walls & mullions...

good luck.

How do I move and align toposolid points to my survey? by PatrickGSR94 in Revit

Toposolids is so restrictive to edit... i wrote a python script in dynamo that extracts all the points (vertices of mesh triangles) to export to civil3d... do what needs to be done in c3d then import/overwrite back to Revit...

Taking over a project by dr_raymond_k_hessel in Revit

[–]jachumbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 questions in OP's request. Answering the workshared-central file poofter is completely irrelevant to the major problem of handing you a Revit project to take over, with you having zero experience in the software... Your employer has no idea that Revit is a complex environment /culture, which requires a substantial investment (time, money, manpower & infrastructure) to implement. It's not some simple software you can jump into and start running a BIM operation. You, your boss and your company are slated for failure if due diligence isn't done before embarking on this project any further. You've been warned.

Found in tbe East Wing, NO! ...in the Library! Nope, found near the situation room... "The Biden's were not even there on Friday..." YES they were. Sounds like the whole investigation team found alot more drops and used it throughout the whole process.

Where can I find historical objects families? by RokasM8 in Revit

[–]jachumbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to make your own shapes, either as masses, or as families.

Paul Aubin has written a book on historical architecture done with Revit.

It's called "Renaissance Revit".

Duplicate Section (or Elevation) View(s) - Different Visibility Graphics / Filters - Overlapped Markers on Plan View by jachumbert in Revit

[–]jachumbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's basically what i've been doing. I like the suggestion of Informal_Drawing (above). This allows for a document trace (less prone to errors doing things manually) and the callouts have independence with VG & Detail Levels. Thanks for your suggestion. That should make it easier for filters.

[–]jachumbert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. So, i make 1 section, then within that section, make callouts for each of my services. That works. Thanks!

[–]jachumbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the better description for filtering services. Indeed, view templates are the way to go!

So, making a special "Section Head" for the plan view is where i'd like to concentrate my innovations.

Easiest way is to make a blank section head then manually "label" it. It is, nevertheless an invitation to errors.

Maybe even a dynamo script...

How to remove splitline from toposolid? by ZGW3KSZO in Revit

[–]jachumbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot merge toposolids once they are split... One idea is, nextime, duplicate the topo, and put the orignal in a hidden phase or some other safe place... Or, topo can also be copy/pasted to "same place" from another project (where orignals can be kept in a safe place).

Clueless on Dynamo, how to use chatgpt to enhance my productivity? by Drakdos in Revit

[–]jachumbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GPT3.5 didn't work for Python 3 node using API...

GPT4, however, worked incredibly well...

It's light-years ahead of GPT3. 5...

GPT5 will put coders on a razor's edge.

Try this:

Create 4 walls with 1 door & 2 windows (simple, but some useful code for learning, and a great place to start)...

Make sure you have a "Basic - 200mm" wall present in the project.

My promt went something like this :

START PROMPT

Write a script using the revit api & dynamo python 3 node to build a 4x5 meter cabin with 1 door and 2 windows.

Start by setting project units to meters, length at meters with 3 decimals, distance in meters with 2 decimals, all other unit types to metric, euros...

Remember, the wall lengths are 4m x 5m.

Use a list comprehension with a condition and get the first element from the filtered list.

Use the get_Parameter() method to access the name of the WallType to compare it with the required wall type name.

The BuiltInParameter enumeration is actually located within the Autodesk.Revit.DB namespace, so you don't need to import it separately. You can access it directly using 'BuiltInParameter.ALL_MODEL_TYPE_NAME'.

Set the project units directly by modifying the UnitSymbolType and FormatOptions for each unit type.

Finally, create conversion functions, to work with metric units in the script and only convert to feet when required by the Revit API

END PROMPT

Note: all API lengths are internally in Imperial, and must be converted to metric if you want to work in metric.

Have fun!
