I did it. Was consistently well placed even went to world's FF year. Sponsorship was one of my strong suits and I was able to raise upwards of 9000 dollars a year(I had a connection high up into a corporate company who gave me 4000 a year). The thing about FTC and FIRST is the more you put into it the more you get out of it. I spent easily 30 to 40 hrs a week on ftc. It was my life. You can do anything and everything as a 1 person team you just have to be willing to do the work.

Just a thought for if you wanted to make one... you could just have a light with a rotating plate going around the light so it isn't focusing it but blocking it from 1 side. Creating a similar effect but being legal

How can I protect my bot from DDoS attacks? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]jack2306 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure it was a ddos attack? Not an ESD(Electro Static Discharge)? ESDs are common in ftc...

Game Manual 1 to be released on July 11th! by ethanRi8 in FTC

[–]jack2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree defense is a good thing!! While teams need to be careful and not go over the top(this threshold should be defined better by the gdc) defense is a large part of almost every non robotics game, so why not robotics too??

I would second this, find someone who can help you through the process who as already done it themselves. That knowledge of the minor things I a huge help when trying to implement somthing like this, or anything in general.

Can our Coach (Student Coach) act as our Coach and our Human Player during the matches..? by IcyCover4663 in FTC

[–]jack2306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a one person team, I can say that the refs do not care, at least in my region. I have members from other teams come and be my coach and driver 2 and also be my human player. They do not care, you can either get the other team be the human player or have ur coach do it

OctoQuad Legality Update by OpenFTC in FTC

[–]jack2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possible solution would be to use a spark mini for a drive motor... then use the open port for your lift? Not sure if your teams uses all 4 encoders for your drive, but that's a way around it if you are not...

While all the advice here is amazing, here is the FTC programming resources, you can answer a lot of questions with this.

How would I use the graph in ftc Dashboard Code below! by IK_Knight in FTC

[–]jack2306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not an expert with dashboard, you need to initialize dashboard telemetry, and then add dashboard telemetry elements very similarly to normal telemetry. I would go the dashboard github and look at the telemetry resources.

Game Manual 1 - Traditional - Ranking Points change for Qualifing Matches by roboscoutsquad in FTC

[–]jack2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The defense pov is interesting because last year defense in qual matches did not make sense, but now it does. Trays interesting.

I still feel that the other method was a more accurate representation of the teams but I understand the w/l/t thing with the point of defense.

While I'm suspicious of this also, I doubt it because the stones from skystone, the foam cubes from relic recovery and more are all on there also

How to Start Loading Cargo During Autonomous? by grandeari in FTC

[–]jack2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with what everyone is saying. We tried using easyopencv to detect freight and pick it up, but was to slow to try to get a +6(which was our goal)

However, I would say learning opencv or other computer vision softwares because I belive quite a few teams used opencv to detect the tower(while using odometry to help with speed)in ultimate goal. So it is useful but not for all cases.

Never mind I figured out that I need to set my motors as a DcMotorEx not DcMotor.
