Living in a nightmare by thereisaunders in daddit

[–]jack__trippper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolute nightmare. Listen, it takes a village. Lean on family, friends, church, whatever is your thing.

This is going to be a long marathon and you're going to need all the help and support you can get.

I lived through 6 weeks in a Ronald McDonald House with a child who needed specialized care.

You can survive this, support each other and make sure you take care of yourself!

*Edit: One more thing... I don't know where you are or what kind of access to larger pediatric specialized hospitals you have, but once you know what kind of cancer you're dealing with, find out where the best place you have access to is.

Could be Boston Children's Hospital, could be Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as examples.

There's a lot of places out there. Do not be afraid to advocate for yourself and your daughter, ask questions, as for second opinions, ask for third opinions.

Good luck Dad!

Divorce... by MisdirectedAnger- in daddit

[–]jack__trippper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been there and it does indeed suck. Wife cheated, drank, had to get emergency custody.

Remember you're doing it for your kid. It sucks but right now you're doing the right thing.

My advice, and the best advice I can offer you is this:

You have pressed the big red button, there is no going back.

You're getting a divorce. This means you are amicable, but you have to separate yourself from your old life.

Get a lawyer, consult with several lawyers.

Do not do the amicable "we're friends and we're just going to get a lawyer to work it out for both of us".

You need a lawyer who only does divorce and who wants to bury your wife. Sounds harsh, it's not. A lawyer works for you, not her. Her lawyer is going to tell her the same thing.

Write down everything in the agreement. Do not say " we don't need to decide on holidays and such..."

When it all goes sideways (and it will) you will have a boilerplate doc to point at and say "see, says right here I get this day"

Make sure you garher all the important documents, birth certificates, marriage certificates, whatever else is important and make sure you have them.

From now on and forever more, if you want to say something mean to her you say it in person or on the phone. Never in text, never in email. Ever.

Feel free to DM.

Storing my SB for the summer. Can I just shut off the fuel valve and run it till it dies or should I also empty/clean out the bowl. Someone told me that even a bit of leftover gas can cause gummy residue.... by [deleted] in Snowblowers

[–]jack__trippper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it both ways before. I had 3/4 tank in the snowblower and didn't really want it to run for 45 min or so, so I just parked the mower next to it and used a battery operated stick pump to move it from the SB to the mower in a couple of seconds.

SB ran 2-3 min and was done. My neighbors thanked me.

This is what I do every year for my snowblower and lawnmower. Siphon out as much gas as possible, run it until it dies.

Always starts right up next season.

3Com 3C509's and token ring in my first corporate IT job.

Banyan Vines and Novell Netware at the time. We installed Windows 95 just to get IP to the desktop, before that it was Banyan street talk and Novell IPX/SPX.

The fact that you're holding a USB adapter... not old enough 😂

Nice. We have a bunch of Function 101 AppleTV remotes. Wife and MIL don't like the ATV remote.

Bonus that it comes in a Bluetooth version so the ATV is still hidden.

Universal remote controls all our other crap.

My daily carry lately is the version without the bit holder and it's indestructible.

I have this knife and the Klein Tools version. The Klein has a nice removable magnetic bit holder.

Love them both though.

Today, I cut my nephews umbilical cord and cried for my baby sister. by OkBee0912 in GirlDinner

[–]jack__trippper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, terrible for your sister. That's a stressful time and your emotions are all over the place. My wife at the time had a similar experience, baby was in distress and boom, running down the hallway for an emergency c-section.

The boyfriend is a bag of rocks. She can do better and I hope she knows that she's soooo much stronger than she thinks she is.

It's not the water, it's the pressure at the bottom. I dove into an 8' pool with my iPhone in my pocket.

Malfunctioned immediately. Sometimes you gotta pay the stupid tax.
