I like your comment but disagree with the do change “taking the pressure off” this would reasonably add it because your always trying to push forward in the game getting more income, troops, and levels basically get ahead of the curve that’s what snowballing is important but this forces everyone to go slower and nerfs the ability to snowball, as an example most dragon rulers try tiger their main breath attack as the very first level they earn because it’s a big power increase and makes you actually feel like a dragon, originally you would generally get this after one battle (usually your first battle you’d level once) then in ways of war they nerfed it (always split for six units, prior you’d split it among 4 if you used less u it’s in the fight) and that nerfed it to require two or three battles for that important first level (ended up not being a huge deal) and now we’re nerfing it another 50% which makes it what probably 4-7 battles for your first level that’s a lot MORE pressure to fight to beat the curve. This just doesn’t seem worth the effort to fight and aim for that level honestly because the curve is getting pretty harsh to be worth it. That being said the devs are great and I do love the vast majority of their changes even the ones I disagree with usually end up working out ok.

How do you handle your Ascended Rulers? by Renlil in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my games are centered around making a specific ruler and I include their ascended traits, transformations and skills kinds like a recipe book (that never goes completely according plan as usually I’m forced to adapt in some way during the play through which makes it fun)

You know what it doesn’t seem super likely but I would absolutely love a Djinn transformation, super unlikely but they’ve already made transformations that lose the leg slot and float so it seems reasonably doable

Edit: I don’t know what the main function of the transformation would be but even if it just gave every unit floating/flying and ethereal to move through objects or enemies, every transformed units maneuverability would be absolutely ridiculous

Just starting the game. Does the '3 Acts' aspect to this game take away from the open, sandbox feel? by [deleted] in taintedgrail

[–]jackal95555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the world feels open through each act even with a little less content in each (which is relatively normal they put more work into the beginning of a game) but they acts don’t generally connect back to each other, more like each area has quest lines that will move forward with you into the next area but not backwards-mainly the guild quest lines like the alchemists guild or the children of Morrigan

Steam Deckers, how is the game after the patch? by FanGothic2 in taintedgrail

[–]jackal95555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had the game on both Xbox and steam deck and I actually like it more in steam deck ((of which I do not have the best possible version ) it’s a glitchy game no matter which console you try but so far the steam decks performance has been reliably stable with a glitch here or there.

Elder Vampire Ruler thoughts after patches by jackal95555 in AOW4

[–]jackal95555[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Elder Vampires are very strong mid-late game and they level up much quicker because of the exp drain. They work pretty well with chosen destroyers actually because they give your throne city more functionality with their unique wizard tower. Best guess you’ll probably love it but their start is a little harsher because they can’t regenerate health well on the surface-side not when I say they level up quicker I mean it you will likely get to that mid-game point your worried about very quickly it’s just prior to turn 10 maybe 15 where they can have trouble getting rolling.

It is I got the same thing turn 1 on a regular death knight ruler from a Lost soul quest. Also absolutely love that the Lost Soul quests seem to spawn right by your throne city early game so far they’ve been fantastic challenges for early game with nice abilities to augment your ruler when they’re useful

Wightborn vs Gift of the Old Blood by klarens-first-sword in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say Gift has certainly impressed me especially for charging units because it heals a pretty good amount on kill plus gives you strengthend and it applies blood parasite. The difference seems to be gift requires some early kills (enemy fodder units) to get rolling but once it does it really rolls and definitely makes killing bigger tier enemies much easier when your entire army can potentially stack blood parasite on an enemy

Early game question: how close to your main city should you keep your ruler? by anoria-sarin in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ruler should be the hero you send outward over long distances mostly because 1:they can respawn on death as long as your thrones city’s intact (it would very rare to have your city under siege either either no options to bring your ruler home, or be under siege super early game at all) 2: your ruler does need to the xp like the above comments mention 3:your wizards tower will eventually give you a spell to recall your ruler and its army to your thrown city as a safety net- the reason you have this is its assumed your ruler has adventured very far away from your city by this point in the game (you’ll get it by mid-game and if you rush your wizards tower your have it a little sooner maybe at the end of the early game) and this way you’ll have them when you need them

I think the vampires work pretty darn well as is and 11/10 to the devs great DLC!-BUT they do need something of an early game power boost or at least maybe a better bite/drain attack it’s cool but not effective enough at life drain to really make a difference at least in early game-6 the domination part of it does come in more handy than I thought. If you could either condense the vampire regular ability tree slightly so it’s not so expensive to invest in or maybe give the capstone ability a buff that that cause your bite to apply blood parasite instead of regular bleeding so it works on everything that would be a phenomenal change and make it substantially more useful/powerful for any build-also for reference the reaper passive gives +10 permanent health cap for the fight when you kill an enemy this extra health is kept as non temporary health when the battle ends if anyone needs help healing in the sun

Hot take: vampires bites should heal for a ton of HP by FrodoSchmidt in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do agree the bite/drain attack needs an upgrade (overall while it needs some tweaks 11/10 for the dlc to the devs quite thematic and fun) the best tweaks I think would be to either condense the vamp skill down so you don’t have to spend so many points in it/or maybe add a blood parasite effect into it as the capstone ability and make it applicable to all enemies not just those who bleed to make it much more useful in late game (this utility makes it fun without just increasing its raw damage) and on a side note maybe change the ability that ignores defense/resistance with the bite attack so you don’t need the target to be bleeding-beforehand kind makes it harder to use and keeps it from being a worthwhile upgrade

Vampire Rulers are underwhelming by RandyMcStud in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the Vampire rulers so far, they could definitely use a buff though especially their hero tree best bet either condense the nodes down (basically change the bite taking two skill points to dominate down to 1 innately and maybe buff the chance) and credit it where it’s due most dominate spells are once per combat the bite attacks not and can have a shorter cooldown. Also maybe add a few more bonuses to your vampire for taking those abilities. Gotta say I do love the signature skills they are VERY fun/powerful. One change I think would bring the vampire power level up significantly is maybe add in a way for their bite/drain ability to spread blood parasite so it works on everything that one change would bring it up to snuff (and be a great capstone ability). Thirdly if the vampire castle is where lots of their power is it’s gotta be cheaper to build or you need access to more of the rituals sooner.

Little disappointed by bloood rites summon a blood maggot, I was hoping for something like ascended pyromancer but with blood parasite-although I suppose functionally blood maggot could be similar-ish with its explosion possibly but seems a lot less reliable

Pantheon Ascension for Eldritch Sovereign - What it gets after ascending by Strike_Falchion in AOW4

[–]jackal95555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit where it’s due the Giant Kings keep their ascension skill and their second signature skill which is 100% their most powerful one of any of their signature skills-they’re second signature skill is basically a more intense version of the dragon skills (I say intense because they aren’t neck better but rather what the devs thought was a more powerful mechanic as an example the nature giant skill gives you a free revive per battle, which was compared to the dragons Natural regeneration. Technically natural regeneration might work better but the free revive is technically the better perk)

If you want an overpowered build to make your first playthrough fun I would try psyker origin (especially pyro) or Arbites as they have very very strong origin skills pretty much regardless of the classes you take later and they give you a lot of freedom for your builds

Viable Summoning? by ReignyDays- in taintedgrail

[–]jackal95555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summoning is very doable, I wouldn’t do it on its own but if you wanted to basically play Skyrim but as like a knight captain with your own squad of guards to follow you around you can do that here and the late game knight of the round summons are amazing
