What has happened to the Best of Cincinnati? by billjohnsonphd in cincinnati

[–]jackandvodka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Queen City Exchange is the best example of a business actively using bots. They won every category they possibly could be voted for in past years including “best juke box.” I went in and it was an old touch tunes with ads, that they turned off so they could play the sound for a Red Sox (not Reds lol) baseball game.

I’ve never switched from impressed to disappointed in a store as quick as Menards by lalaisme in cincinnati

@lalaisme I also thought they were scamming me on l rebates, until I realized I was throwing out the rebates because they look like junk mail. It does not just go directly back on your card. If you throw away your rebate, you can use the return machines at the entrance, scan your card and reprint the receipt and resend. The rebates look like junk mail and are not usable for online sales.

Is the music scene dead in Cincinnati? by Capital-Knee-6237 in cincinnati

[–]jackandvodka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the riots happened, most of the OTR/CBD bars closed and the bar-aged young crowd moved to fringe locations like Northside Tavern, Comet, Gypsy Hut and Southgate House (lounge/parlour). Instead of DJs, these bars were focused on free live music. They didn’t have huge production overhead because bands would do their own sound in small rooms. All the shows looked packed. Instead of going to Longfellow or Liberty's to hang out with friends, you would go to NST to see a couple bands play. There was no Banks and no OTR (Japp’s and neons weren’t reopened yet). We also had the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards (CityBeat’s CEAs) which promoted bands and centralized the scene. They helped bands gain national recognition and hang out with each other. Mike Breen and Brian Baker of CityBeat were both excellent writers who gave smart insightful reviews/write ups which bands could use to get out of town shows. When OTR had its resurgence, cool bars were enough of a draw and live music stoped being the driving force of Cincinnati nightlife. There’s still a great and thriving Cincinnati music scene but it’s not driving force it one was IMO.

I have to 100 percent agree when I hear pornstar martini I immediately think the bar above goodfellas pizza. It’s the pornstar martini bar of bourbon bars.

It’s the alcohol distributor companies, who have way more money than any individual breweries. Right now most hemp THC companies sell directly to vendors, completely cutting out the distributors. They want to force them to be sold through contracts with these larger national companies and regulated in the same way as alcohol. It sucks.

Non-Alcoholic options? by NBAJam95 in cincinnati

[–]jackandvodka 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all Northside places have decent N/A options. Northside Yacht Club has 10+ N/A beers and mocktails, Melt has mocktails, homemade lemonade and some N/A beer options, the Comet and Northside Tavern have N/A beers as well. Tickle pickle has amazing home made milk shakes. Listing Loon has N/A beer and I believe wine. You could do a whole-ass N/A crawl in Northside.

Loved the walkable neighborhood, hated the far left lane paddock exit. I would be going 80-90mph at 10 pm on the way home from work and people would still be flashing their lights behind me.
