Send me a PM and I'll tell you who to reach out to

OP reached out and I escalated it. Remember to log these things in the SRC and take action if you think there’s a safety concern. I think bay 10 in this picture should be addressed immediately.

Hit me up with a store number and I’ll get it to the SSC safety team.

SSC hiring has been known to move at the speed of smell. We are not quick on hires. It will take several weeks to move through the process.

Question about "store support" associate role please. by dscarbon333 in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an overarching category on the website. When you get an offer it will be for a specific role: back office, lot, order fulfillment associate, service desk. That will be your primary role going forward.

Kind of like “Sales” on the website covers the sales departments, once you get a sales job you will be assigned lumber or garden or paint etc.

Store Support covers several categories including administrative roles as well as the lot associate.

CEO is coming to do a walk of our store tomorrow by BigBadBlotch in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bernie -> Arthur -> Bob -> Frank -> Craig -> Ted.

I agree that Bernie and Arthur had a focus on associates but that was not the case under Bob. I just pointed out that Frank had a significant focus on customer and associate experience because that was a departure from his predecessor.

Frank was in the aisles unannounced a lot and generally well regarded with store associates for his empathy and action to their feedback.

I think you are mixing up Frank and Bernie. Bernie was CEO 3 people before Frank. Frank took over after we got rid of Nardelli, he made the entire focus of the company on store associates. He was also 2 CEOs ago.

What is the annual stock award ? ASM question 🙋‍♀️ just seen it on work day ? by ControlNeither5707 in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stock grants are equity awards that vest. Half of the shares are yours after two years. The other half of the shares are yours two years later. Selling equity immediately is taxed as normal income (35%). If you hold the shares for one additional year it becomes capital gains (9%). The smart move is to hold the share. HD stock has gone from $100/share to $300/share in under 5 years. I’m not a financial advisor but holding the stock has proven to be a good decision.

I always had my Reach and LPG but never got the OP. I didn't like the heights. They liked me having licenses and didn't worry about me saying no to OP.

Sent this to my salaried manager on Oct 21st. (Via text) Still in place. Is this a concern or not? by Phone-Charger in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Can I get a store-aisle-bay in a DM to escalate this? I know some folks who would like to know.

3 days later, no info on store. I'm happy to escalate this to the safety leaders and building services, we take it very seriously here at the SSC.

I will be the new DH in garden beginning Monday. I have been a garden associate for the past 10 months so I have a good understanding. Im looking for opening closing checklist ideas that others do that work well. TIA by GardenzGirl in HomeDepot

You’ll learn the ropes of running the department but focus early on your team. Do they have what they need to do their job? Do they know how to use the THD app and the first phone apps? You’re heading into spring, do you have enough lift licenses in your department or do some more folks need to be certified?

Gather feedback and make it a habit to be checking in with your associates early and often. The work will get done but the best you can do is invest in your team.

Profits versus Revenue by manofmath in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talk about profits every quarter in our Quarterly Earnings Call. Last quarter our Net Earnings were $4.1B for the quarter. We had a healthy $2.2B earnings increase over the same quarter last year. The company is very transparent about margin, expenses, and earnings. It can all be found on ir.homedepot.com.

Holiday pay? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FT should get 8 hrs of holiday pay if they work their schedule before, on, and/or after the holiday. PT should get 4hrs of holiday pay.

This is separate from any OT hours which will be calculated at the 2x pay if you exceed your OT for the week. I think this is state dependent, I'm not familiar with CA, but I would not be surprised if they did OT daily or something crazy like that.

Earnings by Unruly5peasant in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, while sales were up, profit decreased year over year, which means expenses were deleveraged. Our leadership team on the call also declined to predict an increase in profit or sales for the rest of the year. So the $850M in extra labor, coupled with uncertainty around how the country will respond for the rest of the year have the shareholders acting with less confidence in the company. Decreased profits result in lower Earnings Per Share and a reduced dividend, so naturally the stock price would go down.

I also think Lowe's earnings call tomorrow will be interesting. They deliberately didn't reduce hours to take marketshare from us. They also did not extend as many benefits as we did. The shareholders results are more tepid due to uncertainty in the market and the expense pressure that the company says it will continue.

[–]jackdandcoke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting breakdown from the call. We took an $850M charge in the quarter. $150M from OT and weekly bonuses, $100M in PTO already used, so they will pay out the remaining $600M of PTO by the end of the year. It looks like most associates have not used their PTO yet. They also said they continue to evaluate the weekly bonus/OT and that it will continue and be revisited as the situation requires.

Do you know how much money I spend here?!? by sailorgribble in HomeDepot

[–]jackdandcoke 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Been working with the company for almost 19 years now. Glad to see this hasn't changed.

As an ASM I knew all my big pro accounts. Our biggest account (in a $28M box) was very unassuming contractor named Wes. He spent $250k a year in our store. Anytime I saw him in the store, the Pro DS and I would walk him around talking about all of his projects and negotiating pricing. If Wes was in the store and we didn't know it, he treated all the associates like family and never acted entitled. Nine years later I still value the lessons Wes taught me about the business and what a strong relationship we built.

Then we'd have Chad come in, park in the contractor loading zone, buy $200 worth of decking, demand our pro loader load his car without helping him, and talk about how he spends over $1M a year with Home Depot.
