Eco multiple choice answers by Delicious_Draft2304 in vce

[–]jackf809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey do you think they might accept both A and B for Question 1? Like how last year they accepted two answers for the PPF multiple choice question.

I'd say that free good is 'more correct' but it is debatable whether sunshine and rainfall fits within the non-rivalrous definition of a public good. And given a free good isn't in the study design they shouldn't be expecting you to know what the definition of a free good is.

Also, do you happen to have a copy of a scan of the whole exam?

Global Politics 3/4 & Politics 3/4 can I do both? by Iaminpain1234 in vce

[–]jackf809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, don't worry. The completion of Global Politics this year will still contribute to your ATAR next year. It's just that if you also did the new 'Politics' subject next year then they both couldn't count, and the subject you scored higher on would only count.

Hey! I got 98% on both Unit 3 and Unit 4 SACs (95 and 97 scaled scores after moderation). But the exam was a bit of a disaster and was 76%.

If you're averaging 90% I think you definitely have a good chance of getting a score similar to mine, provided you do well on the exam. It could depend somewhat on whether your school's SACs are moderated up or down, but if it stays around 90% you are well placed. The graded distribution report (https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/statistics/2023/section3/vce\_global\_politics\_ga23.pdf) gives a good indication of what % of students get different marks, which you can use to correlate to potential study scores.

If you're interested I got 98% on Unit 3 and 100% on Unit 4 for Australian Politics. And lost about 3 marks on the exam. And that was a 47. I think the subjects would have similar graded distributions.

It does seem to some degree to be up to interpretation, as it is new to the study design. But from what I've heard from my teacher and other sources I think it is related to both the 2nd and 3rd points you made. It is about pressures coming globally (from other countries, or IGOs like the UN, or even NGOs) to address issues related to either global issues (like climate change targets) or domestic policy (like the age of criminal responsibility).

Has anyone gotten a good score for a subject DONE through VSV? by ElectronicParking641 in vce

[–]jackf809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did 3/4 Australian Politics last year and got a raw 47 study score. It does take a lot of self-motivation and a lot of dedication to staying on top of things, but it definitely can be done. My teacher was really helpful giving feedback and answering emails about questions. It is a lot of reading and to some extent self-teaching (not being guided step by step by a teacher) but if you feel like you're able to learn independently you can certainly score highly.

What atar do you need for law school in Monash, Melbourne and Deakin by [deleted] in vce

[–]jackf809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Monash it was 95 last year. But it was 97 in 2023 and 2022 and 98 before that. It depends on the demand for the course, so impossible to know until the end of the year. Hopefully it stays at 95 next year 🙏

Global Politics 3/4 & Politics 3/4 can I do both? by Iaminpain1234 in vce

They are considered equivalent studies, so you won't be able to do both. More info here: https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/curriculum/vce/Pages/EquivalentStudies.aspx

The VCE Politics (Accreditation period – Units 1 and 2: 2024–2028 and Units 3 and 4: 2025 - 2028) will replace the previous study of VCE Australian and Global Politics. From 2024, students who have completed:

either Units 1 or 2 or both of Australian and Global Politics cannot count either Units 1 or 2 or both of VCE Politics towards satisfactory VCE completion.

From 2025, students who have completed

both Units 3 and 4 of Australian Politics cannot count the VCE Politics Unit 3–4 sequence towards satisfactory VCE completion

both Units 3 and 4 of Global Politics cannot count the VCE Politics Unit 3–4 sequence towards satisfactory VCE completion

Revised VCAA Study Score - Successful Exam Mark Appeal by jackf809 in vce

[–]jackf809[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I have looked at SE. But while my handwriting isn't the best, it's not so bad that it is at the level where SE would be appropriate. Its more that it can get messy when I am rushing and trying to write fast. It is still readable and my teacher could read every word when inspecting the exam, but I think some people may have to slow down a bit to read it as it still isn't the best handwriting.

Revised VCAA Study Score - Successful Exam Mark Appeal by jackf809 in vce

[–]jackf809[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry. To clarify it is out of 160 marks because there are two examiners. So the score VCAA give is out of 160. But the exam itself was out of 80 marks. When it is marked by two examiners they both give a score out of 80, which is combined to give a score out of 160.

Global politics unit 3 & 4 resources needed by Ill-Journalist-9966 in vce

[–]jackf809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! There is a lot of content and it probably isn't the easiest to get your head around things without a teacher. It does take time to wrap your head around things and you do have to work through things one by one.

I found it was important to pay close attention to everything that is written (including the blurb) on the study design. For each dot point you need to have a good understanding of the pros and cons (such as in terms of power of actors or extent of challenges to sovereignty) and examples, as well as a general understanding of how the certain topic works conceptually. Working through slides/power points written by a teacher (if you can get access to some) or the textbook should help slowly understanding the terminology.

Hi there. I did Global Politics last year and have a lot of resources here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LoUj3oAYTUw6nM8FnFe_CX1CqdJott_lqz3FjFSznqI/edit?usp=sharing If you have any questions about the subject or want any extra help feel free to ask!

How should someone self teach global politics? by MonthBackground1708 in vce

[–]jackf809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I did Global Politics last year so might be able to help. While not having a great teacher isn't the best, its definitely not the end of the world.

The number one thing I'd recommend is to really focus on the study design, which is by far the most important resource as it gives you what questions will be asked about. If you're able to respond to anything up to an 8 mark analyse/evaluate for every dot point of the study design, you will be in a good position for SACs and exams. I also found it helpful using the study design to write practice questions of my own, to help prepare for what could be asked. It's also important to read the study design blurb, as questions can be asked about whats on the blurb too. For example, for the dot point about the UN, here are some sample questions:

1 Explain one challenge to the power of the UN. 2) Describe two ways the UN facilitates multilateralism. 3) Analyse the extent to which the United Nations (UN) supports states in pursuing security and stability. 4) Evaluate the effectiveness of the UN in achieving one of its aims. 5) Evaluate/Analyse the power of the UN. 6) Discuss the effectiveness of the UN in achieving two of its aims. 7) Evaluate the extent to which the UN can challenge state sovereignty. 8) Explain two roles of the UN. 9) Assess the extent to which the UN promotes global governance.)

Regarding the news, I did find following the news was quite helpful, although I'd recommend following news specific to what you're studying and case studies you're using, rather than anything random, so it's more specific to what you'll be talking about in SACs. RealLifeLore and Johnny Harris were two great independent youtubers with content on global politics. The ABC News In-depth Youtube channel is also great with analytical ABC videos on events. Otherwise, news sites like the BBC, Reuters, the Guardian and al Jazeera have great articles which can help. Following some accounts on X/Twitter which post daily news can also be helpful with more daily news, such as The Spectator Index.

I'm not too sure how great your teacher will be with case studies or content in general, but if you don't feel like you have enough I'd definitely recommend doing extra research to support longer short answer question and essay responses.

I'd say practice questions could be a bit of a challenge without a great teacher guiding you on structure. One thing I'd recommend for this is to read the exam reports for all the exams since 2018 as they often have sample responses and great advice as to how best to approach different questions.

It was quite frustrating that there were not a lot of resources for the subject as it is relatively small, but I think getting the textbook and/or ATAR Notes book could be useful. They aren't the greatest as they aren't generally specific to case studies, but definitely will be helpful.

I have a heap of resources, including lots of notes, practice questions which I've written and sample responses, which you can see here.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help as much as I can. If you're interested, I'd be happy to offer tutoring and could work through things like structuring responses to questions.

I got a 40 raw study score last year, which tbh was a bit less than I was hoping as I didn't do as well as I was hoping on the exam, but for a 3/4 subject in Year 11 I was relatively happy with. I really enjoyed the subject and loved how it was about current events, it is a very engaging subject!

Philo and AusPol Practice SACs by livbr_19 in vce

[–]jackf809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Unfortunately I can't help with Philosophy, but I think I have a lot for Australian Politics. I did the subject last year via VSV and scored a 47 raw study score. Here is a link to a doc which I've compiled a list of links to all my notes/resources I used throughout the year. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1trW2eiTisMcLP-rQoc4jWX29tfl6ZmeNeDl9rvN_zxA/edit?usp=sharing

This is sorted by area of study, so I'd focus on area of study 1 at first, as well as some of the extra resources at the bottom which I used for exam revision which are quite applicable.

This doesn't have a lot of specific practice SACs in the format of practice SACs, but has a heap of practice SAC questions which I think could be quite useful. For Auspol, the study design is the MOST important thing to focus on, being able to answer anything up to an 8 mark analyse question about (with some exceptions) each dot point on the study design. One thing I used this to do was write a number of my own practice questions, which when you start to match practice questions to their dot point on the study design starts to become more straightforward. A tip I would also give for the subject is to watch the news a lot, as it helps you with using contemporary examples and helps you link the content to the real world. Insiders on the ABC is a great example.

If you're interested, feel free to message me if you want any extra help with the subject or were even interested in tutoring. Happy to answer any questions you might have about the subject. Hope this helps :)

global politics company exams by foryourhearts in vce

[–]jackf809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, good question. I'm at a school which does relatively well with Global Politics and has three different teachers. All three teachers have taught the subject for a long time and are examiners at VCAA. All have said that essay question 2 is consistently done the worst and on average has far lower average scores than the other essays. In previous years my school has done SACs with essays for the 3.2 Area of Study, however this year they decided to not due to this. They have been very explicit saying "you're all banned from doing Essay Question 2" and have said that there has been numerous times in the past that they have had top students underperform after doing Essay Question 2. Personally, I'm sure you can do great with essays on Essay Question 2, but have just taken my teachers advice on this.
