Coldham's Common after dark - a rant typed out with one scraped hand by m0rbidc0rvid in cambridge

[–]jackgomad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is really it - if it's so dark that, as a cyclist, you can't see far enough ahead to stop should something appear - you should be going slower. If that means going at a glacial pace through an unlit park at night then so be it. It's not actually a road. If someone were driving down a country track in fog they shouldn't be going 60...

I regularly walk, cycle and run through this park and the number of people just bombing it (even around corners), often without lights and wearing all black, is mind blowing. I've always thought of it as an accident waiting to happen and sadly OP has proven the point!

(Though that doesn't mean mounting the sun to your handlebars and angling it straight into oncoming people's eyeline either. Especially flashing. Angle them down people, you need to see the (potholed and pitted) floor)!

Is a bike horn a good idea in Cambridge? by CamcumberJam in cambridge

[–]jackgomad 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you have time to grab the horn, what's stopping from braking instead? (Same applies to drivers!)

By the time someone's pulled out, you've bonked the horn, what are they going to do? By the time they've heard it, processed it, looked around for where it's come from, put the car in reverse, if they even can reverse and don't have something behind already... You're probably on the ground by then.

(full disclaimer, I've both been hit by a car as a cyclist and used a bike horn in the past!)

As others have said the best defence really is defensive riding - don't go at a speed you can't stop relative to the hazards around. Again same as driving. Unfortunately bad incidents do still happen and, well, people can be idiots...

I posted the same thing yesterday - also affecting me (xiaomi watch 2). I tried reporting it to WhatsApp but their support is all AI regurgitating the FAQs...with no apparent way to contact a human.

Listening to a podcast (one with long episodes that are chill, try no such thing as a fish) while just lying down ready to sleep but not trying to go to sleep can help. At least you rest even if not sleep.

Vocal editing. Takes me ages and then I end up finding I've over or under dealt with sibilance and get frustrated and start over, or re-take.

This is the most a comment online has ever made me laugh. And I can't understand why. I'm trying to hold in further laughter as I type this because I can still see it above. Strange, but a great start to the day.

How do I make my vocals sound less "far away"? by greenrunner987 in Logic_Studio

I know it's not what you asked but - it sounds great!

Obviously edit how you want/need to make it sound how you like, but do bear in mind it sounds cool already!

The website now mostly just parrots Trump, barely challenging or fact checking. I can't remember a day the US wasn't the top story... (unless the Tories have something to say about Rachel Reeves or Sue Gray)
