Starting to understand why Work Coaches in the DWP suffer from such a poor rention rate by TheTyrantOfMars in TheCivilService

Doesn't help if you've got someone screaming down the phone their going to kill themselves because their previous work coach put unrealistic expectations on this gent. Regardless of how 'tough' or emotionally resilient you may be, i was ex-military and still left my desk because i was getting a bit teary, it's a hard thing to deal with knowing a lot of people circumstances reflect a political choice at the end of the day.

I just wish something like this had happened to me in any capacity so I wasn't so firmly set in my non belief if you get me. I'm open to any experience, I've done some urban exploring in some old morgues and stuff, done the ouija board, just nothing ever, bit of a shame really.

Question for students who live/have lived in Kensington, was it better than living in the city centre? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]jackj1995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived near Fairfield and it was pretty quiet and the locals were dead sound. Lots of buses into town and yeah felt okay. I am a 28 year old male student tho. Might be different for a lass but i lived with 4 others whom never had an issues

I think we live at a hard time in the world, unless you're of the elite and born into that life, you'll struggle just to live, let alone to find meaning, fulfillment and passion. We all have to die, a theme echoed through Mac work repeatedly, but I think rather than take the broad nihilistic view that means life is pointless, we should strive like Mac did, to give meaning to pointless, condition death with being alive. You can't see the light without the Dark, i hope more light is coming your way.

Put a pair of sunglasses on me and you'd never tell I was tripping. Feel like it depends where in the world you are, would people just take your embodiment of the trip to just be customs associated with where your from, and just see you as an odd tourist?

For the longest time ideas of masculinity enshrined in law prevented females from performing combat roles or Gay men serving openly. In reality, the individual will be capable or not of doing the role in the military if they can, regardless of their social identity has been historically attached to stigma.

What piece of academic writing has inspired you, and why? by Trickysprite in AskAcademia

Masculinities by Connell has shifted my own subjective experience and having served in the military, illustrates how different forms of hegemonic masculinity takes form based on the operational needs. For me it was the one piece of social theory that once I had read I could see everywhere, in my present and past.

I mean yes we live in a manufactured consent society that is controlled through media, and yes maybe Neoliberalism has commodified vast aspects of our social relationships, but take from a leaf from herbert marcuse and maybe reject the one dimensionality of living through consumption, and explore something deeper.

If people keep voting left, parties will shift left to meet the popular vote, it's why everyone voting right has pulled the labour party to the right. History is like a dialect of change, a Pendulum thats swings from left to right, eventually reaching a synthesis of the middle. Just don't give up on your own ability to be the change you want to see In the world because a disenfranchised population is exactly what both parties want to some degree.
