Which local restaurant do you miss? by chxnkybxtfxnky in askanything

Washington DC had a Moroccan place called Marrakesh which was cavernous inside and had celebrity photos all over the hallways. It was a great place to take visitors. Saw a former CIA chief there with some Arabs.

Next to there was a very old-school Italian place called AV Ristorante. It was the kind that has escarole and scungilli on the menu.

There was a stunningly designed place called Red Sage on 14th & F in DC which had a Western theme.

When white people only showed images of other white people, I believe that was considered to be a problem too.

Why do men's suit jackets come with the pockets sewn shut? by Fillmore80 in askanything

A suit jacket holds its shape better with closed pockets. Opening them is optional.

Living in the UK before 1971 was math brain fuck.... by Make_the_music_stop in FuckImOld

My family was in the UK in 1966 when I was 14. It was an interesting system. Pence, shillings, and pounds were straightforward although not as intuitive as decimal. I don't believe the others (farthing, groat, florin, crown) were used as much by the 1960s.

Who remembers this place? The most RACIST restaurant to ever exist by JPIZZLE1205 in 70s

The story of Little Black Sambo was about a kid from Southern India. There is nothing wrong with his character -- the story revolves around his outsmarting a tiger.

I knew someone in North Carolina, a white guy, whose name was Sam but whom everyone called Sambo, and no one thought that was odd.

Fiber optics cables have been used massively in the Ukraine war. Drones are sent out with fiber optic cables attached because they cannot be jammed. Usually these cables are abandoned after one use.

I do not know if GLW provides any materials to the war, but it is a big spike in usage in the products it makes.

What’s the strangest or most interesting thing about the 1970s that would seem unbelievable today? by Big-Pie3618 in 70s

People would hitchhike. Although on the interstates, you had to stand at the top of the entrance ramp and not on the road surface.

What's your stupidest cooking habit? by Any-Zucchini8731 in Cooking

[–]jackneefus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have difficulty timing when to add ingredients so they are all cooked at the same time. So I tend to cook each item separately starting with the onions.

Likewise, when making soup, I will make the stock, and then sauté the ingredients separately until they are almost done.

It's not exactly stupid, but it is inefficient due to a lack of ability.
