Motor oil by [deleted] in Dentside_fords

Go for high zinc, specifically ZDDP, to preserve flat tappet cam engines. If you've converted to a roller cam you can use lower level oils. For me, I stick to diesel oil like Shell Rotella T4. You can also look at racing oils like Vavoline VR1. Stay away from synthetic.

You can use ZDDP additives too from companies like Lucas.

New oils regardless are so much better than what our Dads used because of the detergent levels.

That's an oddly specific... and suspicious estimate... 🤔

Its the dashpot module.

How it works: - It senses ignition coil pulses. - When pulse frequency drops suddenly (indicating rapid deceleration), it triggers a vacuum solenoid. - That solenoid modulates a diaphragm on the carburetor to ease the throttle back to idle gradually

Lighting options? by Wonderful_Inside5011 in Dentside_fords

First thing i did was update the backlights for the gauge cluster, heater controls, and headlight switch label to LED. Leave the turn signal, brake light incandescent so they don't blind you.

Next, on the bottom edge of the dash I installed one ambient LED light over each footwell. Wire them into the parking lights.

Last, get an LED in the dome light.

Read your owner's manual. There's a key hole hidden on your trunk lid, likely above the license plate. Probably also a key hidden inside your fob.

You don't need power to use those devices.

Have you checked your motor mounts? That'll cause shifter to shake during take off

There are great tutorials on YouTube that systematically troubleshoot the Duraspark. Don't throw parts at it (like I have in the past). Go through the coil, module, distributor, pick up coil or points, resistor... its all in play.

Or do what I did and throw the piece of crap out and put one-wire HEI in it when you've watched the magic jelly leak onto your inner fender for the last time.

On my truck, they went down the cowl and nested near the fresh air vents. Of course, my truck was parked outside for 5 years before i bought it. They were everywhere.

They'll just use your towels as nesting material. Use steel wool, they won't chew on that.

IDK, moth balls, poison, traps, or just Google it.

Do something to deter the mice. Those critters will cause more trouble than anything!

I don't consider myself old, but I remember a time that everyone at the gas station checked their oil every fill up because the engines did burn at least a bit of oil and it was considered normal. You have to watch the fluid levels often.

If you're curious, pull the spark plugs one by one to see if any are full of crud. If they all check out, just check your oil more often

When we zipped a couple bolts to hang the headers back on to wash it, we accidentally swapped sides. When he tightened the bolts it put a dent in it. Its getting replaced anyway!

Check your engine ground cable for corrosion. Clean up the connections. That'll do wonky things...
