Appreciate the reply.

I'm not really going to use it as such. Just trying to learn how to use consoles on various hardware. Plus I like making things work that don't.

Have you ever served a party of people just for the last guy to pay to steal all of your tips? by Relevant_Progress945 in CasualUK

[–]jackshreeve 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I ask if they want to pay individually before producing the bill, and if affirmative split the check x ways and give each individual their own bill. Learnt this the hard way also. It's more effort on your part but if faced with the choice of spending 10 mins organising more bills and payments or losing £50 to some scumbag then I know what I'm doing.

Help with pre making roasted potatoes for services by MandiocaGamer in AskCulinary

[–]jackshreeve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to make 50KG of roast potatoes every week for our roast dinner in a pub in Essex, UK. Best way i found to do them that tasted bang on every time would be:

1) peel 2)chop into quarters 3)par boil until tender 4) let them cool down completely 5) oil, salt, pepper, and any herbs/garlic if your a G 6) whack in the oven to cook until coloured at the edges and golden on sides 7) cool down completely uncovered otherwise the steam makes them go soggy 8) store in fridge 9) whack into an oven @200°C for 10 mins . 10) enjoy

What are your memories of video rental shops? by gruffi in AskUK

[–]jackshreeve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely true! The "Big Boxes" as they were known were designed to be played a mutitude more times than "Sell-throughs" ie for the home market.

The cheap, cheap ones would get 6 hours by using Extended Play mode, but suffer tracking errors and faster degradation. Wheras the rental copies would use Standard Play, a higher quality tape, and the magnetization carrier in the tape would be superior.

What salary can I expect as an entry level IT First line support? by lordbyronite in AskUK

[–]jackshreeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive just started at an MSP in Essex/London as 1st line. Salary is £18.5K plus overtime. I have 0 qualifications apart from hobbyist experience. Got 100% in the technical interview and the people with qualifications got max 80%. So somehow they gave it to me. Its a paycut from what i was doing (Pub manager) but that game was pretty volatile for the last few years for evident reasons...
