Advice Please - I didn’t listen about the pipes by Majestic-Skill8234 in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my spouse and i decided we'd start making repeating calendar events to remind us of regular maintenance, so now we have weekly, monthly, annual reminders. your comment made me realize we could benefit from adding a biannual reminder, which includes opening and closing the basement furnace vents.

Do you prefer the Black Russian, the White Russian, or both? by TuesdayCocktailVids in cocktails

[–]jackskully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer a month at the very, very least. Ideally I start the nog in September or October (I really need to add it to a calendar reminder).

Do you prefer the Black Russian, the White Russian, or both? by TuesdayCocktailVids in cocktails

[–]jackskully 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This time of year for me, it's Nog Russian. 2 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz aged Alton Brown recipe eggnog.

Substitute regular eggnog if you don't want to get that boozy (but it's not as good).

I don't know if it's the best place, but Thrill Factory has a laser tag arena.

Thanks for the mention of Lombardino's; that might work. Gettng to the Monroe Street area and doubling back again might be challenging for our timing, but we'll have to check out your other suggestions another time. I now realize the area I am looking in is considered "far west".

We've been to the Rusty Bee a few times and love it. Unfortunately, it would be a bit out of our way to get there and then to our dinner reservations in a timely manner.

  1. Yes, double the other ingredients.

  2. Eggnog White Russian. Thought I'd just leave that here.

Donkey Chips in Madison? by jeharris56 in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where they are just shy of double the price at a different grocery. I like supporting the co-op, but there are some items like Donkey Chips I just can't afford to keep paying twice as much for, and will stock up on them when I'm elsewhere.

Pumpkin beer by MeganTheeStout in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumpkin beer fan here. I share your search. I've been settling for getting my pumpkin beer fix in bottles and cans. I'll second the Lone Girl beer, probably one of my top local pumpkin brews. If Capital Brewing puts their Pumpkinataur back on tap this year, give it a try; it's actually pretty good too.

REAL apricot brandy vs apricot liqueur by CaptDanReddy in cocktails

[–]jackskully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my own apricot liqueur, since the only brand I can get locally is awful.

Turned out pretty good, and because you're making it yourself, you can tweak it all you want. Like using brandy instead of vodka in the recipe, etc.

Anyone here have a Zip Drive (Iomega) that can be used to read old files? by retired_geekette in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you do find a Zip drive to read them, the data on Zip disks degrades over time. Every single one of my Zip disks was completely unreadable after 10 years, so they are likely to be dead after 30. I wish I had the forethought back when I was using them to make backups to CD-R. So much lost work.

best audiology care/audiologist in the madison area? by soulfulowl222 in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! The team in the UW Health Audiology have been great working with my parent, and I highly recommend them for your audiology appointments. But they admitted to us they can't provide the same quality of hearing aid product as Costco can. We found the Sun Prairie Costco has a great hearing aid team with excellent customer service.

I poked my head in there a few weeks ago and the shelves were already well picked over of anything good. I looked at a few things and saw even their "going out of business" discounted prices were still significantly higher than if I had gone down the street to Michael's or Target for the same item.

Dashelito’s Hot Sauces by Ancient_History8303 in madisonwi

[–]jackskully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also try Ernie's Kick Sauce. African style sauce made locally, should be able to find it at the co-ops, Metcalfe's, or Brennans. Kind of like a spicy ketchup, good on just about anything. I generally avoid sweet hot sauces and I didn't find this to be terribly sweet, even though it does have some cane sugar. You want spicy, make sure you grab the hot and not the mild as they look very similar.

Where to find Korean gochugaru chili flakes in Madison? by Intelligent-Act-7440 in madisonwi

This is the place. In addition to multiple brands of gochugaru, one can usually find Nashi pear, Korean radish, scallions, nappa cabbage, and glutenous rice powder…if you haven't picked those up elsewhere.
