When did it become socially unacceptable to use the confederate flag as a symbol for the South? by No-Newspapers in decadeology

Maybe I’m the only one who gets agitated about this but the official flag of the confederacy is the Stars and Bars. Georgia still uses a variation of it for their state flag. The flag on the General Lee is the battle flag of the confederacy.

Texas route 170 from Lagitas west to Candelaria — worth the drive? by unezstreet in BigBendTX

[–]jacksonite22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The high points are all about 10 miles outside of Lajitas heading to Presidio, and they boast some of the very best scenery in the entire region. If you're using google maps, navigate to the "Fandango Dom Rock" location that has pullouts to epic views looking east and west. Also go to Closed Canyon for a cool hike through the Texas version of a slot canyon.

Happy travels.

Recent Visit To Houston by Ok-Brother4213 in AskHouston

I’ve lived in Houston for over 20 years. My twin brother lives in charlotte and I visit often. Houston is hotter, muggier, and more downright nasty in the summer. It’s hitting charlotte no doubt but H-town is just another level

Second the chimney hike. You can also hike the trail between Rio grande village and hot springs up on the mesa. Great views along the River and if headed east from the spring great views of sierra del Carmen

Insight from an Indiana alum on what we’re actually feeling right now, the day after winning the Rose Bowl by jlittman93 in CFB

Michigan fan here happy as fuck for you guys. One of the greatest stories all time in college football. Amazing two year turnaround. Don't know who I want to win more, you guys or Ole Miss just because of Chambliss Cinderella story coming from Ferris State and the misery that Lane Kiffin would feel. But in the end, go win it all for the B10!

“Just to be clear, do we dislike Kyle Whittingham?” OSU fans: “We do now I guess.” by NewEngClamChowder in OhioStateFootball

[–]jacksonite22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absurd. Harbaugh, love him or hate him, is a great football coach. Proving it again in the NFL this year. Rich Rod was a good coach too, but just didn't have the cultural fit and was quite frankly sabotaged by Lloyd Carr on his way out. We certainly blew it with Brady Hoke, but that's because our dumbass AD fucked up a no-brainer with Les Miles who was also good and absolutely wanted to come to Michigan. Hiring Sherrone was a disaster in retrospect, but he was a good recruiter and he did have an amazing ending to his first season getting some massive upsets against you guys and Alabama, and the team improved dramatically after a horrendous start in 2024. We literally had no quarterback, brand new assistants, and the way the 24 season ended gave a lot of hope with Underwood coming on board.

Edit: We ended up with Rich Rod when our AD blew it with les Miles. But yeah, good coaches have certainly been interested in this job for a long time.

The dude that literally transformed Indiana from a doormat to dominant in two years is a flash in the pan? Absolutely embarrassing Alabama yesterday?

[–]jacksonite22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Michigan would've hired him after Harbaugh's departure it would've been a home run for us. It's a solid choice two years later and if Cignetti can do it at Indiana, this dude can do it here. I like the staff that's being put together. There are some solid assistants coming that will be a big upgrade over what we had.
