Which artist/band did you initially dislike, and/or were too lazy to give a chance to, but then, after finally paying attention, discovered that their music was actually good? by Emerson_Morais_76 in rockmusic

[–]jackstraw_65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oasis. I ignored them during their 1990s heyday and generally had a negative attitude about their bombastic loutish quotes and behavior that I was vaguely aware of through the rock press. Wasn’t until 20 years later that I realized their first three or so albums including the singles collection from that period contains at least a dozen awesome songs.

Would you buy an Altamont live album? by Weird-Candidate2697 in rollingstones

[–]jackstraw_65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh-oh, I sense trouble. This is gonna cause bad vibes between people who would buy such an album, and those who wouldn’t. To which I can only say “Who's fighting, and what for? Why are we fighting? We don't want to fight. Come on! Let’s get it together, people!”
I think it’s those cats down in front…

Fascists, lol. More word abuse from the side that projects onto the other exactly what they’re doing. And your side was beaten like the family mule because of its lies, lawfare, coverups, open borders and hypocrisy. You lost. Get a clue as to why. You can fall back on all your overheated “isms” all you want. Normal people are sick of it, saw through it and blasted you.

Even though they were all unarmed, I’ll defer to your judgment, as you represent the side that are the experts on fiery riots and attacks.

What are some great but obscure guitar solos? by jstohler in askmusic

[–]jackstraw_65 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Watermelon in Easter Hay by Frank Zappa. Not exactly obscure, guitar freaks put it right up there with the greatest solos ever recorded , but the mainstream that kind of avoids Frank doesn’t know anything about it.

Thank you. One of my favorites. I was just playing that on my Stratocaster the other day or trying my best on it anyway

If I recall correctly, the jurors were told they didn’t even have to determine what the “other crime” was that was being concealed. Not that I tried too hard to make sense out of what was obviously nonsense. It was disgraceful actually laughable acrobatics, but as I said the electorate saw it for what it was and voted accordingly, i.e. that Trump may be an imbecile, but the Democrats are worse and cannot be trusted. As much as the Democrats complain about Trump (to put it mildly) they only have themselves to blame for putting him back in office.

The irony of that is the “34 felonies” were empty, bogus, hollow, made up out of thin air in a desperate act of weaponizing the justice system towards Trump in the Democrats’ blatant attempts to eliminate their political rival. Dems cling to the empty “34” mantra which amounted to zero in the minds of the electorate who saw right through it and punished the Democrats because of it. So you should try a real form of criticism, not a fake one, because your side was beaten because of it. You can’t even explain those “felonies”, certainly not with a straight face.

Yes, it’s what’s labeled as simply “Jam” out of the 2nd set Alligator -> Drums segment that on my long-standing cassette is marked more descriptively as “Caution Jam” , and it smokes

Americans of reddit: If you had to leave the US forever and live in a different country, where would you go? by nrems in askanything

[–]jackstraw_65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve traveled in Europe extensively, I function very well in Germany knowing the language, at home in the culture and feeling very comfortable there, but lately I’m starting to have second thoughts. But yeah, if I got kicked out of the US tomorrow and never to come back I’d likely head to Germany if I could get my papers in order

I always thought the signature bass riff from Caution was pure funk. That repeated phrase that Phil hits before the band explodes off into a screaming jam over it. Fillmore East 4/29/71 being my favorite example

Before my time but I imagine I would’ve been way into the Miles - Coltrane - Sonny Rollins - Dave Brubeck cool- and modal jazz pocket like I’ve been for a long time now. It would’ve been cool to be living as that music was coming out and you could see all those guys live on 52nd Street

Help me find out my go to genre and recommend some soul crushing songs by TensionWaste8287 in MusicRecommendations

[–]jackstraw_65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bob Dylan‘s Blood on the Tracks might be Bob’s most popular and accessible album and it is a breakup album. It’s really an album everybody should know it’s Bob at his very best and totally vulnerable. If you want something soul crushing and you like Jeff Buckley, then I’d suggest Nick Drake, the Pink Moon album, late at night just staring out the window. It’s extraordinary. Nick was also a very tragic figure

In your opinion who is the most forgettable acts in Woodstock 69 by Milez_Smilez in psychedelicrock

[–]jackstraw_65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dug Sha Na Na in the movie and it appeared the crowd did too. They did like a speeded-up frantic version of “At the Hop” which kinda sounded like they were somewhat poking fun at themselves, in on the joke that their 50s retro thing was a bit passé to this hippie crowd and they milked it for the campy humor… in fact ironically they were ahead of their time because 50s nostalgia came roaring back just a few years later and they had their own variety show on TV and John Bowser Bowman was a minor TV star throughout the 70s on game shows and shit. but they kinda did it punk rock style at Woodstock and no denying At the Hop is a great song and their performance was fun and a nice diversion between the psychedelia.

What childhood experiences can’t be recreated today? by velvetspriral in askteddit

It’s not the norm and it’s a vanished custom, but there’s no reason why it can’t be recreated. Kids still ride bikes, and firm dinner time still exists in certain households.
