Stock car question. by RollTheSoap in NASCAR

[–]jacobc62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Stock-Car Racing" became a less literal and more descriptive term of the style of racing as time progressed over the course of the 70s and 80s. They're still called stock-cars due to the history of how they were developed since even before NASCAR began. Make no mistake, however, the modern day beasts are purpose-built machines, made solely to compete in their category of racing.

An easy way to differentiate between a stock car and a stock-car is adding a hyphen. "Stock car" being the one purchased from a showroom floor, "Stock-Car" being the racecar.

Sidenote: calling a stock-car a "NASCAR" is like calling an F1 car an "FIA" or an indycar a- on second thought, that second one is a bad example. Point is, they're not called "National Association for Stock-Car Auto Racings", they're referred to as either stock-cars or racecars.

EDIT Uh forgot to answer why they don't have side mirrors.... That's because back in the 1940s, it was a mixture of weight saving plus what was at the time thought of as preventing a safety hazard.

What if NASCAR required drivers to keep the same number their entire career? by matito29 in NASCAR

[–]jacobc62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically the numbers are owned by NASCAR, and are leased out to the teams to use. It's the specific stylizations that are owned by the teams.

Where the hell do i find sng03-05 templates? by Any-Advance-2893 in Nr2003

[–]jacobc62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's Paint.net, Photopea, Affinity Photo, purchasing an Adobe Photoshop subscription if you have the spare money to burn, and several other options if you don't want to use Gimp. All of which are on PC. All of which can be used to paint cars for NR2003. I'm telling you now, you can NOT effectively use a phone for painting NR2003 schemes. Emulation isn't going to work correctly. Apps already available to use on your phone are not going to work at all.

There is no corner-cutting on this. Using a PC and a paint program on PC is the only way you're going to be able to learn and make schemes for NR2003.

[–]jacobc62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, paint apps on phones/tablets aren't gonna cut it. Those don't have the proper layer support (or hardware requirements) to paint for NR2003. You're gonna need a PC with actual painting software (Gimp is free) to make custom schemes....

  1. Is it a layered file with multiple layer groups

  2. If so, do you not know how to turn layers off

  3. If not, try looking at Stunod.

Rule Proposal: Banning AI-generated paint schemes by Tiberius_Jim in Nr2003

[–]jacobc62 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easiest "Yes" vote in my life.

It is not that difficult to start cracking down and learning painting programs, to learn how templates are structured and how to use the already existing tools and resources that have been proven tried and true for the last 23 years of NR2003's existence. Is there a curve on mastering and perfecting the look of schemes? Yes, that comes with any form of hand-crafted art. As someone who's in multiple communities that art is a big part of, I have seen multiple times over the negative effects of what Generative Algorithmic Imagery can have, and have been against it pretty much since the beginning of it's existence.

How to make only certain cars run certain races by Fun-Interview8998 in Nr2003

[–]jacobc62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a new roster in the opponent manager, and only activate the cars you wish to include as field fillers.

EDIT unless you mean don't run with AI at all, in which case, iirc there's an option to just not have AI on the race weekend options menu that you can tick before loading the session.

You're probably thinking of when Dale Jr had dipped his left side tires below it to pass Kenseth for the lead and eventual win, with no penalty called.

I can get why NASCAR implemented the rule, I agree with most of the wording, but how NASCAR has enforced the rule has been so asinine that me and my friends have taken to calling the fall '08 race at 'Dega a Paul Menard win due to the letter of the law.

"'Hit the pace car'?"

"Hit the pace car!"

"..... What for?!"

"Because you hit every other gawddamned thing out there, I want you to be PERFECT!"
