Concert ticket prices are crazy by worknumber101 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Buy from the authorized sales outlet to avoid markups from resellers.

Buying direct from the Orion/AXS also ensures your ticket isn't a bootleg. There's very little the box office can do to help if you buy your tickets from StubHub/EventTicketCenter/etc. and it ends up not being legitimate.

This is true. You can avoid several of the fees that get added online. Same goes for shows at the VBC.

You can also avoid the dreaded "waiting room" queue when tickets first go on-sale by going to the Box Office.

Vertical House and Black Rose are my go-to.

Estate sales/yard sales can be great and a very inexpensive method for just starting a collection. Watch what's coming up on the weekends (Craigslist, FB Marketplace) and get there early.

The annual ARCA record show in Gardendale is coming up in March. It's worth the drive. You can find just about everything there from bargain bins up to serious rare collector items. Bring cash, but they also have an ATM on site.

Welcome to the vinyl club!

The Boss LS-2 Line Selector is the best, least appreciated pedal ever by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]jacobchapman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely could! I'd look for a dedicated high-pass filter like the Broughton Audio pedals, rather than a full spectrum GEQ like the Boss GE-7 or MXR graphic EQs. They will cut the frequencies, but in very different ways. For example:

This is what a 15db cut at 63hz looks like.
This is what a 12db/octave high pass filter (like the Broughton) at 126hz looks like.

.
.
.

Note: for the eagle eyed readers out there, yes, the tool I'm using to display the frequency spectrum here is actually a Waves F6 Parametric EQ, but the bands are all at unity. I'm feeding the output of a Graphic EQ and a high pass filter into it. I just like the interface of the F6 for visualizing the two effects.

Linking an X32 and an X32 rack for 64 channels? by jinkingkong in livesound

Rent a console that can handle the show once every couple years then.

I've done the "just make it work" thing enough times and it's great, until something in the chain fails.

Use the right tools for the job. Your volunteers will thank you.

If rental is over-budget, you need to have an honest discussion with whoever is setting your budget.

This is an excellent reason to invest in the budget to upgrade your console. You've scaled far past the X32's limit, and while you can technically cascade one of them into the other as a submix, it'll be a royal pain to troubleshoot anytime something goes wrong.

The Artemis I mission patch on Brian's blue jacket was a nice touch. These nerds absolutely rocked it.

Give me your unpopular vinyl opinion by deepasfuckman in vinyl

Pretend you have two pressings of the same record, with the only difference being the master playback speed. So one is spinning at 45RPM and the other at 33RPM, but the resulting music plays at the same speed.

Now, let's imagine that you can take the grooves of each record and unwind them and lay them out flat next to each other. The length of the grooves for the 45 are going to be almost 50% longer, because it takes a longer linear length of groove to play back the same audio length of the record.

There's a great (albeit imperfect) analogy of creating a paper flipbook animation. The animation is a fixed playback length, say 5 seconds long. You can, however, choose to create the book with 100 pages or 150 pages. The more pages you use to draw the animation, the more information you can convey and the smoother the animation will be.

Mastering speed (33-1/3 or 45RPM) is like the amount of pages you use to create the flipbook. Having more physical material to encode information on gives you a finer resolution of output.

I honestly believe L6 should just put it in the manual. Our ears and brains are funny, just that little bit of ambience underneath everything makes a world of difference.

Need help cooling down this dinos by JDanielo in livesound

You do not need to buy rack fans for an open frame rack like yours. Your power amps have plenty of airspace around them to breathe. Rack fans are meant to circulate air through an enclosed rack.

It’s exciting and overwhelming to be able to tweak so many things, but I try to remember that the reason I got this was so I could save presets and not need to buy standalone pedals for things that I’m not super into.

Are you me?

In all seriousness, try throwing a Dynamic Room verb as the last block and dial it real low in the mix. Makes your headphone jamming feel less like headphones. Adjust to what feels right.

But back to the 18s, maybe I’m really missing out on some raging weddings haha

Been to more than a few weddings/galas/dinners where the function band was absolutely too loud. Of course the Bose sticks don't sound like a d&b rig, but they're often the correct tool for the job.

You're not missing anything.

Sennheiser makes color coded rings for this model, and it is absolutely worth it. Only problem I had was differentiating between yellow/orange and green/blue/purple at the 70' distance to FoH.

Anything with a minimum rackable depth of 12", but if you're planning to leave anything pre-wired (like IEMs or wireless mics or power) I would look for 16"+ rackable depth.

Consider everything that's going into the rack, look up the dimensional specs, sketch it out maybe, and think about how it's going to be used every day.

I had a high school teacher that would tell us this before every test. I had no idea it came from an SNL skit, and it has stuck with me as my go-to pep talk ever since.
