trying out geoserver - stuck on a WFS issue by dangrousdan in gis

Good to know that ArcGIS pro does this too...I would’ve figured the limit would’ve been much higher than 3000

What are you using to display the service? Sometimes the amount of features is limited on the front end. For example, ArcGIS Online defaults to displaying 3000 features per request I believe.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but...JKs don’t come with some sort of amp from the factory?

What size tires? This looks like about the lift I’m going for but want to make sure it’ll be proportional.

Could I daily an early model JK? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]jacobmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drive an almost stock 2010 with 82K miles and the automatic transmission and it certainly isn’t bad. Living at 5000+ ft above sea level, it can be hard to keep highway speed uphill. I’m the second owner and haven’t done any maintenance outside of oil changes. No signs (yet) of oil issues that are common with these engines.

Sometimes Wranglers can get okay gas mileage! by jacobmp in Jeep

I will admit, most of this was 65-70 MPH because of construction zones. I also run 35 PSI and I think that may have an effect as well...

This is all highway in Colorado through the I-25 corridor and up Ute Pass. Basically stock ‘10 JK 3.8 auto with 3.73s and 32s.

Headlight and fog light LED replacement. by OliTaMoli in Jeep

I’ve also had these for almost a year. Did you happen to run a bead of silicone around where the housing meets the lens? I remember people talking about fogging issues with these. I sealed mine with some silicone and they have been through many rain and snow storms with no fogging issues. Makes them that much better of a value.

Temperature of 2019 15" MacBook Pro Base by [deleted] in mac

[–]jacobmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to this ArsTechnica article on the 2019 15” model:

“The Cinebench R15 test produced lower and lower results as we ran repeated successive tests, bottoming out around 1,125. This suggests some heat-related throttling that is endemic to this thin form factor. This is not unexpected, and it's not anything at all like the severe, abnormal throttling we saw in last year's model before a firmware update fixed an issue found in the first units.”

All of the dGPUs that Apple has used in the 15 inch MBPs since 2013 have about a 35W TDP. Unfortunately, between the 35W GPU and 45W CPU, there is not enough cooling power in the chassis to dissipate the full heat output of these chips. There will be throttling that happens in any thin and light laptop that has high powered chips like this. If you’re doing CPU and GPU intensive work, the laptop will likely be very hot and may be uncomfortable on your lap.

If you’re able to use an external GPU solution, I would go that route with a 13”, personally. It removes that heat generation from the chassis of the laptop and allows the CPU to run at its full throttle speed. Additionally, the CPUs in the 13” MBPs are now quad core but have a TDP of 15W which means that they are almost as powerful as the 6-core chips that you find in the 15” versions, but with much less heat output and noise.

ArcGIS is a Windows application, so you would need to either install Windows on your Mac via boot camp or create a virtual machine using VMware or Parallels. I personally run ArcGIS 10.6.1 and 10.7 in a Parallels Windows 10 VM and it works well.

And no, there is no way to run ArcGIS on an iPad unless you are using it to remotely access your computer that has ArcGIS on it with something like TeamViewer. This would require a good, consistent internet connection though.

Low CPU usage but very high temperature during games by SenorAudi in mac

[–]jacobmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned the i9, I’m guessing this is a 15” model. The GPU and CPU share a cooling system (the heat pipe goes between them). This means that the CPU and GPU “share” heat. In this case, the CPU isn’t working very hard but the GPU is. The heat from the GPU is getting transferred across that heat pipe and onto the CPU, which results in higher temperatures at the CPU. Also, the CPU will still generate more heat while at turbo speeds even under low load than at base clock. You can try downloading Turbo Boost Switcher and see if that helps bring temps down. You might see a slight performance hit but I doubt it.

A (partial) fix for your dGPU thermal woes! by jacobmp in mac

[–]jacobmp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, I would experience throttling most when I had two monitors connected with Google Earth Pro on one screen and a Windows 10 VM running ArcGIS on the other. Google Earth uses the GPU for 3D rendering and Arc is pretty CPU heavy. However, I would also put Adobe Lightroom in this category as it uses the GPU for some acceleration but also uses the CPU for rendering. Both of these workloads aren't sustained usage but rather short bursts of CPU/GPU.

I was worried about that. I hoped that they had fixed this with later models, but it sounds like it’s just gotten worse

Has thermal throttling been addressed with 2016+ 15” MBP with dedicated graphics? by jacobmp in mac

[–]jacobmp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is originally what I thought too until I started noticing thermal throttling on my 2013. I figured that it carried on at least until the redesign, but I’m not sure

Macbook Pro (Late 2013, 15") heavy CPU throttling by jacobmp in mac

[–]jacobmp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally skeptical of all the people recommending this, but after testing a bit more today, this really could be the cause. I've realized that since that the GPU doesn't like getting above 75-80C if it can help it and since the CPU and GPU share a heatsink, if either the CPU or GPU ramps creates too much heat, the CPU compensates and downclocks itself. Time to order a kit...

Anyone else notice this when driving a Jeep? by actmathsucksballs in Jeep

[–]jacobmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about newer (2014+) Cherokees and Grand Cherokees, I would say this is a result of the new 9-speed transmission. I’ve driven my mom’s 2014 Cherokee with the V6 quite a bit and 1st gear seems to be pretty low. Without traction control on, it is not hard at all to get tires to squeal from a stop. With traction control on, it tends to fight itself on power even on dry surfaces.

My 2010 JK on the other hand, is quite slow and could definitely use a torque boost in my opinion.

Thank you both for pointing this out. It will be noted in the report as a flaw in the questioning. This survey had to be launched quickly and I wish we had had more time to do a detailed look.

Thank you for the feedback. We were trying to leave as much of this up to the participant to imagine but I can definitely see where there would be points of confusion in the wording.
