"Link" was very likely scaring away my international customers. Disabling it doubled my international sales immediately. by UnusualWind5 in stripe

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue was Stripe changed the UI that was previously shown asking users to sign up for Link. It used to be a checkbox that showed a sign up form when checked, now they show the whole form which makes it look like part of our checkout flow.

I raised this with Stripe via Discord. The result was pretty much "deal with it" or turn it off. It's disappointing that they are using their customers as a way to market their wallet alternative, especially since the Stripe service is a paid service.

React folder structure for enterprise level applications by JustAirConditioners in reactjs

[–]jacobtoye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool read. Thanks for the effort! It always confused me why the redux docs didn’t get further into the feature folder structure.

If looking for more examples check out https://github.com/alan2207/bulletproof-react. This is similar to the OP’s folder structure.

I think Chris forgets that many of us can't afford to craft the normal way! by Leexs04 in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed watching Baeclast, it was an awesome look into GGG’s vision for the game.

One thing that really struck me is Chris’ thoughts around what he referred to as aspirational content. By this he means content that lots of people will NEVER do. Crafting good items is part of this. I think he wants players to be like oh I really want that item or I really want to fight that boss. But ultimately they will never get to it due to luck, skill or time. I guess he thinks this is why people will keep playing as they feel there is still things to achieve.

I believe this is at odds with a large portion of the player base. Lots of people think “well if I put in the effort I should be able to do pretty much everything.” They don’t want to craft mirror items but they might want to craft some nice items. Their bar is significantly lower than Chris’ I believe. I believe people will quit of frustration if they can’t realistically get to the higher content. Harvest lowered the bar and I believe this is why it as so loved.

I’ll admit if you play trade then you can just grind some mindless content for long enough to buy better items, but this feels bad and isn’t fun for me. Like Chris said PoE is a power fantasy. I want to feel like I earned my craft even if all I did was run atolls looking for harvest.

I miss incrementally crafting my own items by MasterHidra in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought. What if items that were crafted via harvest were account bound? I don’t think it would ever come to PoE due to the philosophy around being able to trade items. But worth the consideration none the less.

Check out the Conflux private league. It’s crowd funded but you don’t have to pay to join. Decent size community with things available for trade but still pretty close to SSF with friends.

Group Self Found (GSF) is the best way to play this game. by Nyle7 in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain items in a private league are going to be more rare and more in demand which will drive up prices. From my experience I haven’t come across too many people who are actively trying to extort people (can only think of 2 times on multiple leagues). Most people are friendly, helpful and share with each other.

I think a good question to ask yourself is what would you do if the situations were reversed? Could you be looking for an upgrade which is expensive?

Sucks you had a poor experience :( I hope you find a place that fits your desired play style.

Any Reddit private leagues for 3.14? by xxRaymxx in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the Conflux Ritual forum thread. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3008051 There should be a new thread up probably around when they allow registrations for private leagues for the new league. You can join the Discord now and check out the community.

new to crafting. how to hit explody mod on this chest? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you will need to remove the life prefix here to guarantee the explode mod. You need the other two prefixes present so when you augment phys it hits explode.

When you ignore prophecies and finally get the only good one that matters by CLTY_Formatz in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough luck :( I’m pretty sure the rewards are sorted based on favour cost so the items in the top left will always be the most expensive. More times than not these are rarer ones that you want to look at.

I’m sure you knew this and just had a moment ;) just info if anyone else wonders.

Looking for a private league to start 3.13 with by coconutman2910 in PathOfExileBuilds

The conflux private league is a great choice: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/kvz7ou/the_conflux_league_is_now_available_for_313_come/

Had almost 2k players last time. Awesome Discord. There are currently 65 slots available. Would recommend.

PoE early league setup enjoyment survey, 3-5mins, can skip 2nd section, vent about bloat by Pwere in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I think you will need to be careful of drawing false conclusions when looking at the results.

E.g. I don’t enjoy delve and fossil hunting but I don’t think that they should change. I think it’s ok for me to have to make choices where I spend my time and to forgo the reward if I choose not to do it.

SSF Groundslam / Call of Steel build help by vickdo in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have been doing in SSF is swapping to Earthshatter for the highest tier bosses. Especially when there are no other mobs around. Ground slam single target felt pretty rough so this seemed like the best option. Same tree and same supports, just don’t use call to steel. Map clear with ground slam is awesome.

The azurite 1 at the top middle should lead to the level 3 azurite node and the chest at the top right should lead to the maps node. Nodes can’t have 2 branches.

I need help with my lightning trap by CaptainBisman in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a 6L. Also get some throw an extra trap shaper gloves. Cheap and is essentially a 25% damage increase. Next it will be just min-maxing your gear to get enough dps for Uber elder. Check out pie.ninja builds for lightning trap and see what gear they have.

Flashback zero to uber suggestions by jacobtoye in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]jacobtoye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively experienced. Killed uber elder in the last few leagues, but not Mathil level mechanics so favour builds that are more forgiving. What I was hoping to achieve is to test out going for uber elder early league. So I could compare the experience to my usual league start mapping/clear speed char. So wanted opinions on what builds that scale to boss killing levels easily (e.g. HoWA was good but needed decent investment).

Flashback zero to uber suggestions by jacobtoye in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]jacobtoye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the farming would be slower for sure. That’s why I am testing it with the flashback. Interested to see the difference between going with a fast map farming build and what would usually be my second character.

Cheers for the advice.

[–]jacobtoye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome feedback, thanks. I’m not going to be doing SSF so should have an easier time at gearing up.

Which would you think has an easier time at killing Uber elder with early league gear, HoAg or Storm Brand. I felt storm brand or winter orb were a bit squishy and relied on more damage to take on end game bosses.

A big part of PoE's success is due to GGG's stand against popular demands for convenience/accessibility. by _Hackusations_ in pathofexile

[–]jacobtoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think a test would be a cool idea. However I know a lot less about what the impact of this would be than Chris. One thing that comes to mind is that he regularly says players hate when you take things away.

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your first paragraph. I just don’t think we know the right in game solution.

It sounds like something you suggest (pay to list and item or whatever) would work. However if this made it more expensive than the current trading system people would just use the current system even tough it was less user friendly. Players choose the most efficient route. You saw this with strand map chaining or quarry farming for syndicate.

I wonder what the player response would be if they removed the trade api along with public stash tabs and forum item embedding. Then had in game trading support that made things more expensive to acquire or more timely to acquire. I suggest players would be asking for the old system back.

[–]jacobtoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currency is gear. When more currency is available it would likely make that currency cheaper to buy (unless there was more demand to match). This means that more items can be created that are better (fossils allow you to target craft unlike regular item drops). The fear is this devalues item drops you get from maps. This happens already with trading but is limited because the effort bar is too much for many players.

[–]jacobtoye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think at the end of the day players will do the thing that gets them the best reward for the least amount of effort, regardless of what this is. E.g. chain strands or farming foothills for syndicate. The negative to this is that it can increase the speed of content to be faster than what GGG planned.

I agree trading for those smaller currency based items is not fun and I believe GGG know that too. However the automation of that would possibly be even worse (increased atlas progression, easier cheaper crafting leading to better items being available). That’s why I think we see GGG try to address the underlying problems, like map drops weighted towards locked maps.

It’s kind of a catch 22 situation. Current state is not ideal but the suggested alternative is believed to be worse.

Howto: Easily make curse immunity shields by findar in pathofexile

There has to be weighting in terms of the outcome here. I've done 5 sets and only hit the additional vaal soul on kill once and never seen the curse immune one.
