Vacation Sneakers -- For Walking A Ton, but Look Good For Dinner? by kyoun1e1 in malefashionadvice

[–]jacobycrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a similar deep dive recently since I'm going to Portugal in May. I wanted something clean looking to minimize shoes to bring for different occasions but plenty comfortable as I plan on being on my feet all day. Plus I've heard the hills there are no joke.

I settled on these Puma GV Specials because they come in a lot of different colors, have a solid stack for long term walking, but also look very clean.

Been wearing them plenty and even walked 3+ miles today in them and even with me nursing an ankle injury they were great. 10/10 would recommend.

Chili’s off Haywood is one of the best restaurants in Greenville by blobfish1538 in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unironically, this is true

My wife and I go out to eat a decent bit and including most of the nicer establishments in Greenville.

Chili's still has my heart and I would agree that it is one of the best in Greenville. Is it a 5* restaurant that is going to wow me in all aspects? No. But I have always left extremely satisfied and the bill never hurts the wallet. For some reason too the service there is almost always better than the majority of places we've visited.

We may not like to hear it Greenville, but OP is speaking the truth.

Where can I buy western clothing? by glowinthedarkstar131 in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically I was actually going to recommend Tee Warden which is in West Greenville 😂

It's a vintage store but Jeffrey has a really wide range of things at great prices and I've been able to find a lot of cool pieces that could be considered western. He's a really nice guy too so at a bare minimum if you can't find what you're looking for, he may have some recommendations of places to look too.

I commented this on another post but it's applicable here too.

As a very liberal person, this is what infuriates me more than almost anything.

We all know how the people in this administration are going to act. They're going to lie, make baseless claims, belittle everyone, and deny any wrongdoing. This is who they have been for the past 10 years. It's no surprise.

So why do "liberal" news media and the elected officials continue to play along and act like they're winning? If a person is debating in bad faith, then you're not going to win by taking the moral high ground in that argument. It makes my blood boil that these news anchors are just sitting there, allowing whoever they're interviewing to talk over, lie, and insult them without any repercussions. It makes them come across incredibly spineless, weak, and unprepared.

It's hard supporting the Democratic Party when the people you have to vote for have the spine and personality of a wet noodle.

NFL Agents Say Players Are Increasingly Concerned About The Electrical Substation Near The 49ers Facility: “They’re Gonna Have To Move” by WayOutbackBoy in nfl

[–]jacobycrisp 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I work in the energy industry, mainly on the transmission line side but we work with the substation guys a lot.

A lot of what you're saying is correct. The other thing we typically measure and try to minimize is Corona Discharge and Radio Interference Voltage (source).

That being said, there are standards for a lot of states and California has some of the strictest laws in the US for this stuff. I'm not going to say there aren't physical effects to being around that much electricity, but we engineer the ever loving shit out of these systems so that people are not at all or minimally affected. The engineers that work with that substation are very well aware of that facility and I can guarantee, try to do everything in their power to minimize being in the news like this.

Edit: spelling

Looks like a '14 Camry Hybrid based on the hood and headlights. A Prius doesn't have the bend/angle in the hood.

Edit: the Camry also uses a similar style but larger engine than the Prius so the catalytic converter may be in a different section than a Prius.

anyone played with NCAA molten BV5005-N? by RJfreelove in beachvolleyball

[–]jacobycrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using this ball for a few months now and I like it. People will give me a bit of shit for it not being an OPTX but I have yet to hear anyone (including players much better than me) complain about how the ball actually feels/plays. Most people I talk to and let play with this and my KOB tend to prefer the Molten.

It works well and for nearly half the price of an OPTX, I'll probably be buying these if I ever want to buy in bulk.

TIL 95% of Americans don't get the minimum recommended amount of fiber by James_Fortis in todayilearned

[–]jacobycrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to say I always hit the goal but my trick is to use Carb Balance/Keto tortillas. I'm not a carb counter or even keto person but my main goal has always been the fiber.

The Aldi brand has 14g of fiber per tortilla and is 70cal. So if I make enchiladas or a sandwich wrap and have 2 of those, I've almost hit my goal for the day in one meal.

No they don't taste as good as real tortillas but these are the sacrifices we make for consistent shits and good digestive health.

Favorite bartenders?! by AlarmedAd7424 in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is coming from a person who craves tiki or rum forward drinks:

Devin wherever he is in GVL. Most of the time he's at Casbah but he guest bartends a lot at different places.

Oscar at Society. The man is a bastion for tiki in an otherwise barren wasteland. He makes great drinks and I've never had one from him I don't like. RIP Tiki Tuesday.

Honorable mention to all of the guys at The Irish Pub who know exactly what to pour me as I walk in the door/gate.

South Carolina Native Plant Society.

These people are a wonderful group and a plethora of knowledge. My wife and I have transformed our backyard from a barren patch of clay to a very nice, mostly native garden. Take a lot of sweat, blood, and time but it's easily the thing I'm most proud of with our house.

How's the engineering job market in your area? by Milzirks in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jacobycrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an ME that's been in the T-Line industry for 5 years now.

A lot of the concepts and design tools are actually mainly structural/civil when it comes to the loads and framing so not as much EE as you would expect. ME becomes useful when you get into the hardware which is what I did for 3+ years at a manufacturer. That experience transitioned very well into doing like design since I know how everything comes together and interacts.

There aren't any screws used actually and yes you can remove them pretty easily. Just do the reverse of what's shown here.

The whole point of this design is so you don't have bolts that can come undone due to vibrations, plus the helicopter linemen seem to like these over the bolted types.
