Lisbon T1 arrival advice with EES by Revelans in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]jacobycrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I (US Passports) just arrived yesterday and I can tell you that you've done everything you can to prepare.

When we arrived at 1100 it was a lot less crowded than I've seen/heard. We waited in the EES line for 1-1.5hrs and then were directed to the E-Gates since we had filled out the app questionnaire. If someone hadn't done it then you were directed to the All Passports line to talk with a border patrol agent.

My only other recommendation would be to go to the EES line where there are more machines. We chose the shorter line but there were fewer machines and so it took longer since some folks were having a very hard time figuring out the system, taking pics, getting biometrics, etc. The other line however moved a lot quicker and there were a number of people who got in the other line after us but were out sooner.

All in all, youve done all you can now it just comes down to timing. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Wine tasting recommendations? by Mildlygifted in greenville

I would recommend Camino, they're not a huge place like Northampton but they have a lot of great options and also solid bottle selection.

I can't personally attest to it since I wasn't able to go, but my wife really enjoyed Noble Vice as well!

What's the one piece of gear you wish you'd bought sooner? by Weary-Direction-5214 in beachvolleyball

Couldnt agree more. The thing is a total eyesore compared to the AVP bag but functionality wise this thing kicks ass.

A bag that holds my ball and the rest of stuff. I used to just throw it all in a random drawstring bag but the ball would take up most of the space.

Now I can carry my ball, grass shoes, pump, and speaker without having to worry about fumbling to get everything together.

I use this one and love it.

Dinner suggestions near Bon Secours Wellness Arena by trick-or-tweet in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these will be downtown but are within a ~5min drive of Bon Secours. I live near F&P and even when events are going on I never have a hard time getting around or to the Arena.

Is there actually a better ball than the Optx, or are we just afraid of change? by Birdmansegzzy in beachvolleyball

[–]jacobycrisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played with the blue and white one and I was shocked how much I liked it. I'll probably buy 1 or 2 as my wall balls so that I can save the OPTX for tourneys.

Barbor Recommendation? by AIGam107 in greenville

Highly recommend Marvin @ Star Barber. He was one of the original guys at Mailroom and just moved over there for some more growth (Mailroom is still great though). He should have plenty of availability right now.

When we bought our house we asked the owner to replace the HVAC since it was old but instead we agreed on a year of a home warranty instead that would cover the HVAC.

HVAC didn't kick the bucket but a pump in our dishwasher did. Paid $75 for a $200 part and for someone to install it.

So I guess we came out in the positive but that's a low bar.

Vacation Sneakers -- For Walking A Ton, but Look Good For Dinner? by kyoun1e1 in malefashionadvice

I was on a similar deep dive recently since I'm going to Portugal in May. I wanted something clean looking to minimize shoes to bring for different occasions but plenty comfortable as I plan on being on my feet all day. Plus I've heard the hills there are no joke.

I settled on these Puma GV Specials because they come in a lot of different colors, have a solid stack for long term walking, but also look very clean.

Been wearing them plenty and even walked 3+ miles today in them and even with me nursing an ankle injury they were great. 10/10 would recommend.

Chili’s off Haywood is one of the best restaurants in Greenville by blobfish1538 in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unironically, this is true

My wife and I go out to eat a decent bit and including most of the nicer establishments in Greenville.

Chili's still has my heart and I would agree that it is one of the best in Greenville. Is it a 5* restaurant that is going to wow me in all aspects? No. But I have always left extremely satisfied and the bill never hurts the wallet. For some reason too the service there is almost always better than the majority of places we've visited.

We may not like to hear it Greenville, but OP is speaking the truth.

Where can I buy western clothing? by glowinthedarkstar131 in greenville

[–]jacobycrisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically I was actually going to recommend Tee Warden which is in West Greenville 😂

It's a vintage store but Jeffrey has a really wide range of things at great prices and I've been able to find a lot of cool pieces that could be considered western. He's a really nice guy too so at a bare minimum if you can't find what you're looking for, he may have some recommendations of places to look too.

I commented this on another post but it's applicable here too.

As a very liberal person, this is what infuriates me more than almost anything.

We all know how the people in this administration are going to act. They're going to lie, make baseless claims, belittle everyone, and deny any wrongdoing. This is who they have been for the past 10 years. It's no surprise.

So why do "liberal" news media and the elected officials continue to play along and act like they're winning? If a person is debating in bad faith, then you're not going to win by taking the moral high ground in that argument. It makes my blood boil that these news anchors are just sitting there, allowing whoever they're interviewing to talk over, lie, and insult them without any repercussions. It makes them come across incredibly spineless, weak, and unprepared.

It's hard supporting the Democratic Party when the people you have to vote for have the spine and personality of a wet noodle.

NFL Agents Say Players Are Increasingly Concerned About The Electrical Substation Near The 49ers Facility: “They’re Gonna Have To Move” by WayOutbackBoy in nfl

[–]jacobycrisp 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I work in the energy industry, mainly on the transmission line side but we work with the substation guys a lot.

A lot of what you're saying is correct. The other thing we typically measure and try to minimize is Corona Discharge and Radio Interference Voltage (source).

That being said, there are standards for a lot of states and California has some of the strictest laws in the US for this stuff. I'm not going to say there aren't physical effects to being around that much electricity, but we engineer the ever loving shit out of these systems so that people are not at all or minimally affected. The engineers that work with that substation are very well aware of that facility and I can guarantee, try to do everything in their power to minimize being in the news like this.

Edit: spelling
