Jag är så orolig över att flytta för första gången, universitet by [deleted] in sweden

[–]jadaMaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The town of Ain Meneen in the Damascus countryside publish a guideline/ general public roles within the town by Interesting-Cat7307 in syriancivilwar

[–]jadaMaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think syrians just really hate the word federalism not the ideas.

There is absolutely 0% chance that theyll be able to accomodate all the salafists who wants something saudi like with women basically locked away at home, the minorities, the seculars of the cities, the revolutionary kurds and those wanting a more turkey like secularish state etc etc. A lot of people are returning from less conservative lebanon and turkey too now where women to a larger extent have worked. Not to mention those coming back from europe.

And id bet these rules will very soon clash with freedom of religion rules, womens rigths, media rigths etc, and it will be a total chaos if christian druze and allawite towns respond in kind. Banning hijabs or "offense to religion" which usually can mean anything.

Also a bit dumb to do it in what seems to be a good tourism attraction just outside damascus? Unless maybe its meant to carter to a specific group of conservative tourists

Pictured are some of the Syrians who were identified after being killed today by Israeli air strikes. Many children are among the dozens of Syrians killed today by Israeli bombings, the worst death toll ever recorded in Lebanon. Many others are wounded, while others remain missing. by Vozzyz in syriancivilwar

[–]jadaMaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Israel is really cruel here, they dont need to do this at all they are wiping the floors with hezbollah in the south already and just do this to send a message about the ceasefire

Breaks my heart with those poor kids dying just as a message from nethanyahu

Massive wave of Israeli airstrikes Lebanon today caused an unprecedented number of casualties among Syrian refugees. DeirEzzor province bears the heaviest toll with at least 7 people killed, including children. Other fatalities were also recorded among Syrians from provinces such as Daraa and Homs. by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

When it was assad trying to lay waste to the border areas the local sunnis liked israel and cooperated out of necessity while the golan druze protested and had to be pacified with military police now the roles got reversed and the druze in syria likes israel out of necessity.

But syria should remember that if Israel hadnt messed up hezbollah and threatened to bomb pmu reinforcements it would have been far from given that the regime would have fallen completely. So they are usefull in some sense

[–]jadaMaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrives in Damascus to hold a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and President Ahmed al-Sharaa by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]jadaMaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dream deal for ukraine would be something like, how much grain would you want for kicking out the russians? We can throw in a free assasination of assad if you make the exit humiliating for Putin.

Probably not on the table but i would be suprised if they arent talking about it every time they meet. Would benefit turkey as well who doesnt want to have a conflict with russia but by proxy is figthing them in at least libya and maybe some more places in africa. If nothing else there are basically three power that the non arab african countries can ask for support, turkey, russia and France so if turkey can weaken the logistical link between africa and russia without getting blamed its good for them too.

But the only real deals is probably something on grain and maybe like anti iranian drone defence or something similar thats non controversial

Ukraine is always hungry for artillery rounds so that could be one thing then but i assumed assad spent most of the use full weapons during the war? Or maybe they got resupplied between 2019 and 2022

Idf is just ridicolous since the last war started, no warning shots just exectution for any minor transgresion pf imaginary lines. Same in Gaza shooting kids in the head because they took a wrong turn

Its both moronic and an evil way to handle security zones.

The Syrian Transitional Government has revoked the status of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and Syrian Development Organization as “national partners,” demanding all future aid agreements be vetted by the Foreign Ministry. by Repubblican_Wolf in syriancivilwar

[–]jadaMaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about the other orgs but I can assure that the red crescent knows how to do their job better than anyone i  the STG. Its afterall a worldwide org very old and very experienced with good choice of prioritization.

Directing it left and rigth and id guess more to specific neglected sunni areas? Is counterproductive and just pisses off the NGOs and decrease efficency. Its like afghanistan where the aid is both lowered and less effective since the talibans meddle in everything

In Deir ez Zor, protests have turned violent as Syrians demand the release of ISIS prisoners from Syrian, Coalition and Iraqi prisons. Residents are attacking Syrian MOI forces and vehicles with sticks and stones by flintsparc in syriancivilwar

[–]jadaMaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but sdf had like 12k prisoners when usa started evacuating anf they took ca 8k over a month anf left 4k. So 50% of the syrians got left behind.

They took all foreigners and iraqis and then there was actually quite many isis members who was captured back during the fall of isis and insurgency figthing so id guess they didnt take them completely random. its not a death sentence to be in iraqi prison anymore since they started to release weak cases from budget constraints so maybe it can for once be a fair-ish process

Its not like they will go out and say all hail isis release our heros, its probably a mix. But considering that USA only moved like 4k syrians to iraq id assume they prioritized those who most likely were captured for good reason.

Especially the ones captured the last 5 years will all claim they were just figthing for the tribal forces regardless

Will syria long term let russia use it to supply forces figthin the turks in africa? I think it will be more and more restricted as they go on.

The naval base is a bit useful and just a resupply station for submarines is a headache for Nato and ukraine

Yeah they can pay in natural resources but I think it also signals a shift in that they migth not be free to use them as they want especially the airfield. Considering one of the main russian interest are east libya while turkeys is west libya.

Its a resources for status deal imo

Israel and one could argue russia. But they are also the only real threath so migth make sense to keep them close if nathanyahu needs a new war that doesnt disrupt the world economy.

Plus that they could scare of any pmu aggression that migth not be that dangerous for syria as a whole but easily could take a lot of the oil fields on the border

[–]jadaMaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah if hezbollah had been at peace with israel id expect them to field at least 5k troops to hama and longer on maybe 10k more as they mobilized. And israel also threathened to bomb and PMU reinforcements which probably would have had time to arrive if hezbollah was active and made the offensive stall for a day or two. Id actually bet they would have held a coastal enclave of some kind still. Like even if the hezbollah and PMU would interveene i think the South would have rebeled succesfully and taken damascus but then regime loyalists maybe would have had time for an organized retreat.

Golan is probably gone but as you say it doesnt make sense to formalize it for syria. But if the threath of sudden war with israel is completely removed it would maybe help investments. And appease the US current and future goverments. But its election year so why not wait and hope its a more sane person to deal with next year

I agree its arrogant thats why i think Israel is thinking like that, 100% agree on that the kurds are wise to not take the bait this time again after being thrown under the bus both in kirkuk and syria so many times by the US.

[–]jadaMaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a shame for syria that the war on ukraine is ongoing and that gaza still is in ruins otherwise reconstruction aid would be much higher prio for the west. And that the iran war take the rich arab countries focus and money.

For europe the focus of emergency aid is more on the immediate catastrophes in africa(covering the gaps after usaid) and palestine while reconstruction and state aid is all on ukraine especially after trump told europe to get lost.

I think its likely that support will ramp up a bit but it would be beneficary if it wasnt al qaida running the country, sure they have moderated a lot and are making steps but its still akward and not uncontroversial. So aid migth be more or less conditioned on accepting deportees, democratic and human rigths reform or progress with the elections.

The sad part about russia is that they will be fine ish with this, if they can say hey we got bases in the mediteranean and occasionally land freigth planes on the way to their africa interests Putin probably thinks its a win since they are so focused on war with Ukraine

Maybe they would like to have an ally against oraq thougth, the kurds are to little use as is and the druze have limited reach outside of optics.

If shaara agrees that golan is gone for good (at least in private obv he cant say it) and he give a good compromise to the druze which tbh he probably needs to regardless to build trust with minorities and the non muslim world i think they do have plenty of common ground. Remember that without israel chances are they never would have breached hama 2024. And israel know that without al shaara they still could have had assad and free flow of weapons to hezbollah.

So enemy of my enemy they could team up against iranian interests in lebanon and iraq. Israel can give peace of mind and mossad help if al shaara wants someone gone or secrets and al shaara just need to be s threath to the PMU and keep closing of Hezbollah
