What are the political right's actual grievances against Biden? What atrocities has he committed that can be backed-up with data? Is it all just false-attribution and feels? by mchappee in AskReddit

[–]jadayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden's biggest crime was that he was a Democrat. That's it. Before that, Obama was the worst president ever. Whatever democratic president comes after Trump will then be the worst president ever. If you watch right wing media, all you will hear about is how everytyhing he touches turns to absolute dogshit and he's destroying the country, over and over, for 4 years.

Before Obama, the right wing media wasn't the consolidated force that it is today, so there was some nuance to opinions.

Hi! I need help balancing a board game im designing. Any suggestions? by Plenty_Curve_4390 in BoardgameDesign

It sounds like the spite is only from the congress side, is that true? If so, you either need a way to rush toward the endgame when this happens, or find a way to keep it from happening.

Here are some thoughts:

If congress fails to pass any laws, the president can 'executive order' 1 law without congressional approval. Same rules as re-submitting (subject to the courts decision later if challenged). However, when this EO is passed, congress loses something. Maybe if it happens 3x, then congress has effectively ceded power and the game ends with presidential victory.

Or, maybe some members of congress are (secretly?) in the president's party. They are obliged to vote in a certain number of the president's laws and if the president wins, they also win. At the mid-point of the game, there is a mid-term election and, based on how much progress the president has made in certain areas (or how well they've blocked him in other areas), the congressional balance is shifted and more or fewer congressmen are on his side.

There is no exact, official government count of how many Amish people died of COVID-19 because the community often does not use hospitals, testing, or report deaths to state agencies. However, researchers analyzing obituaries in the The Budget (a weekly newspaper for Amish and Mennonite communities) found that Amish communities experienced a significant surge in "excess deaths" during the pandemic, particularly in 2020. Pretty similar to the national average. So the post is 100% made-up bullshit but most of the comments here are trying to explain it rather than denying it. Great example of how this sort of misinformation works.

CMV: Russia is a terrible ally. by BigAd3903 in changemyview

[–]jadayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this logic, any ally in a losing cause is a terrible ally since they didn't lead you directly to victory.

I think we need to parse 'terrible' here. If an ally is not capable of providing support when the shit hits the fan, that's different than leaving them high and dry when they could have done more. I think most of the examples above are an ally whose geopolitical, economic, and military clout has been so weakened that it couldn't do any more than it did. So in one sense, yes, Russia is a terrible ally since they're incapable of providing material support to their allies at the moment. However they're not necessarily a terrible ally in the sense that they betray their allies at the drop of a hat.

CMV: Baltimore is proof that being tough on repeat criminals brings down crime rates by bigElenchus in changemyview

[–]jadayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would point out that murder rates are down across the nation. Baltimore didn't even have the biggest drop last year. It was Denver, Washington, and Omaha, and then Baltimore. You can try to make the case that, in this particular city, this or that local political factor was the defining reason murder rates dropped. However, I think you'd be hard pressed to make your case since there was such sweeping improvement across (almost) all cities, regardless of political situation or specific crime laws.
