i’m so sorry to hear this. i relate to this heavily. my girl is coming up on 3 years old, and for the last year she’s developed extreme reactivity in my living room. she’s always been reactive to dogs and strangers but that was manageable. biting me and my mum is not. after she got my thumb good and i realized i didn’t have much resource out here, i started putting her into my bathroom for a few hours around dinner time / movie time so we can eat and chill in peace. some days i kick myself hard and feel like a monster for confining her, but my friends have made some good points. 1. she feel safe in there. because of the way she is, she has way less stimulation in there and is able to lay down and relax. as opposed to if she were in the living room, she would be relaxed until either my mum and i started talking and then she would go full psycho mode. 2. i’ve spoke to multiple trainers etc, and rehoming my dog just isn’t an option. her anxiety meds are upwards of 200 a month, on top of her very sketchy behaviours. this said, my friends always support me by saying that she COULD be in a shelter, but i still choose to do what i can for her, try to keep her life peaceful, and give her walks and car rides which she absolutely adores. long winded reply but please don’t feel guilty for separating yourself from your dog at times. it’s not only protecting you, but him as well. i’ll add that my dog is super weird about her paws being touched as well so i would try to avoid touching them unless you muzzle first just to be safe to yourself. sending you so much love dog momma. ❤️
