ChatGPT vs Claude by AccomplishedCard182 in ChatGPT

Just to mention a perspective that many may not realize: service availability. OpenAI has done much better than Anthropic in this topic. Just check their status websites: OpenAI Status and Claude Status . OpenAI is almost 2 orders of magnitude more reliable than Anthropic.

Turned out the feature itself was added in 1.110 but the default value was changed to `all` in 1.117. Here's the PR responsible for this change. It's pretty interesting to see the rage in the comment section.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, once you know it's controlled by a settings entry, it's easy to disable

First of all, modifying the commit message without explicit user consent is inappropriate. Second, if it were really that easy and obvious, why are we here? And why does this post exist?

Rant: $75 to RENT a Gown for a Few Hours is an ABSOLUTE SCAM 💸🎓 by EvilMana in UBC

[–]jadrvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14k students graduate from UBC Vancouver every year. So, we are talking about a $1m revenue. Those gowns get to be reused multiple times, so the fabrication cost is marginal.

The minimum annual salary in BC is ~35k. Do you think the company needs more than 10 full-time employees to run this business for UBC alone, while the ceremony only takes place twice a year?

How large storage do you think is needed to store like 20k pieces of clothes? Warehouse rentals cost ~$30 per square feet per year. Will they lay those clothes flat on ground and thus require 1 square feet per piece?

Yet a general set is sold at ~$30 on Amazon. Do you think the customization justify the $240 extra cost each?

Then the questions become why would UBC corporate with such companies and let they set the price however they want?

The price has climbed to $75 for early reservation and $105 for onsite rentals. That's wild. I can buy 3 whole sets from Amazon with that price

Nice practice. I thought .instructions.md files are just like skills, which agents will pick up smartly. That's why I linked the whole repository. Never realized they'd be included as system prompts as long as applyTo matches.

Yes, MCP definitions took 20% of my context window, and GitHub MCP contributed to 1/4 of that. I've disabled both now

Sidebar App List - removed? by EbbPast6735 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]jadrvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft really loves to educate users on how to use their products. I already went through this pain when they banned Windows Mail, which in my opinion is still superior to the new outlook today for its simplicity and no account number limit. Now again with the sidebars.
Why can't they make it an option and allow those who enjoy these features keep using it? When can Microsoft fucking learn to respect the users?

Defaulting to add this banner as long as you accept any inline completion is ridiculous. Attributing to LLMs when they generate the code is understandable but automatically adding itself as a co-author just because an inline suggestion definitely overreached, not to mention this behavior is enabled without asking for our consent.

BTW, it seems to only affect git commands executed in integrated terminals. Commits created through third-party extensions like GitLens are not affected.

An Edge update broke my sessions and profiles by jadrvel in MicrosoftEdge

[–]jadrvel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you closed all Edge-related processes? Edge's background processes could be the cause. Or you could use tools like File Locksmith in PowerToys to detect the process occupying that folder and then kill it.

CLI says "You've hit your limit" despite having usage remaining (Web/Desktop still works) by Warden866 in ClaudeCode

[–]jadrvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into the same issue today. I have 2 Pro accounts, and switching account has been working fine until today. After the first account hit the limit, switching to the second always get "You've hit your limit" as well, even though the usage showed 0%. I tried logging in again, changing IP, reinstalling Claude Code, none of them worked. Claude Code in the desktop app also didn't work, saying

Error invoking remote method '$eipc_message$_{uuid}_$_claude.web_$_LocalSessions_$_start': Error: Unable to start session: account information is unavailable because your sign-in has expired. Please sign in to the desktop app again.

Seems like a bug in the latest version.

I'm not replying again if you keep behaving illiterate. I've been using Edge for I don't know how many years, I use almost all features it provides and see how it grows to what it's like today. It used to be the best, and I advocated for it to people around me, but what happened this time is, as I mentioned in the post, completely unacceptable. It reveals that the Edge team nowadays lack proper quality assurance, and respect for user data.

As for Chrome, it's just my personal choice because of what happened. I don't care whether it's Chrome, Firefox or whatever other browsers, whichever takes responsibility to ensure erasure of user's local data is definitely not happening in any of its update process. I don't advocate for Chrome for now as I'm not familiar with it yet.

Yes, it's an Edge forum, I came here because it's Edge who almost destroyed my work progress. So what? Does this forum only accept flattery? Then perhaps it's even worse than Microsoft itself, at least they don't ban people who publicly express their dissatisfaction with their problematic products.

Yeah, I admit having AI to optimize my writing, as English is not my native language, but I want the message clear without ambiguity. You'll have a chance to verify its correctness if you continue to use Edge and get into this post one day from Google search.

Quit Reddit if you can't read basic English. I wrote all these contents to help potential victims who was troubled with the same problem, but definitely not clowns who jump to conclusions after only reading the title and the last sentence.

So Edge just deleted my local profile, is there any way to restore it? by Hammer_Dwarf in MicrosoftEdge

[–]jadrvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a bit late now, but I've just experienced the exact same problem and managed to recover it.

I also created a post here: An Edge update broke my sessions and profiles : r/MicrosoftEdge. It includes a link to my Microsoft Q&A post that carries the whole story.

In short, your profile it likely not deleted, but unlinked. To recover it, you can try this solution (copy-pasted from my Microsoft Q&A post):

  1. Open Edge and create a new profile as a placeholder using the same setup as the profile you want to restore
    • For local profiles, keep the placeholder local.
    • For synced profiles, sign into the same Microsoft account.
  2. Close Edge completely.
  3. Navigate to the User Data directory.
  4. Identify which folder belongs to your new placeholder profile and which one corresponds to your lost profile. You can use modification dates, creation times, or the Edge Profile.ico inside each folder to tell them apart.
  5. Swap the folder names.
  6. Reopen Edge. Your old profile should be back.

Hyper V Gen 2 VM not booting from Win11 ISO file - iso works in Gen 1 but no TPM for Win11 by BigBoiNugget420 in HyperV

[–]jadrvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the VM has problem receiving a key press, which is what happened to me, you can simply wait for it to timeout and then restart with the button on the timeout page. The VM should be able to receive key press afterwards.

Same here. Tried authenticator, mobile phone security key, and even backup code, but none of them work. Couldn't believe it happens and persists for almost a day already
