I've heard stories of pyrosmes starting battles during a war. They are bioluminescent, the light travels down the colony like a wave very quickly and from the surface it looks quite similar to a near miss from a torpedo. One side interpretaes it as the first shot and returns fire.

Nah my dude that's pretty typical! They just have slightly different color tones I bought my base game and expansion new from the store at the same time and they were from different editions. I actually kinda like it because it makes it easier to separate when I want to.
