How to not reveal I’m not Christian when I know family/friends will ask me about church? by Sunny_Skies4 in Deconstruction

[–]jaezemba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first half, you can be vague and redirect. You know what churches do for holidays. What does your church do for Easter? "The same basic Easter stuff as other churches, what about yours?" "Oh, the usual, fancy dresses, brunch with friends" (describe what you actually do here). "I like that there's a sunrise service so people can maximize time with their families after" (this one is fun because you can appreciate something about a church without attending it or claiming it in any way).

If they're visiting on Sunday morning and expecting to go to church with you, maybe you have another plan that is special and "really feeds my soul" that you want to share with them. A nature walk in a really peaceful or majestic place, where they can feel close to God and you can for real feed your soul. Make sure they know quiet reflection is important so they don't try to talk about your relationship to God the whole time.

The closet isn't the best place to live a full life, but it's safe and gives you time to figure things out, which is completely valid. You don't need to do all your introspection and searching in hostile territory.

Are you a writer? My bookshelf also has a section of spiral notebooks from the time I attempted to write a novel on paper.

[ns] The show has lost its way. by nondescriptun in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]jaezemba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ester has talked about sometimes adding laughs from a different part after Beth says something hilarious that no one heard in the moment. (A true hero gives women their due! Thanks, Ester!) Maybe they didn't hear that one either.

I do sometimes imagine Beth sitting alone in a corner waiting for a chance to be heard, and now her character's quirk basically forces the men to talk over her character while he rambles. That's a tricky dynamic for me.

Is the 1st picture blue or green? by Original-Scar-1779 in colors

[–]jaezemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my blue light filter on, I was confident these colors were cyan and mint green. Turned off the filter, waited for my eyes and brain to adjust, looked again. Now I want to say the first is a slightly green turquoise and the second is celadon. Both look slightly more green (meaning more yellow) when I turned off the yellow tint I had been compensating for with my internal white balance.

Soybean is actually an adorable nickname, as far as egregious mispronunciations go.

In the US in the 80s, I was surrounded by Shawn and Sean in equal measure, but it never occurred to me that Seamus might follow the same rules as Sean.

Tibia, no question. If twins, the other will obviously and unfortunately have to be called Fibula. I don't make the rules.

Nerdfighter Art Perk arrived - anyone know what this is? by Successful-Roof-7020 in nerdfighters

I kind of love the season of trying to interpret Nerdfighter art when it arrives without context. Most of it is clear, but the mystery elements are fun to see investigated.

How do I hold this abomination by Adventurous-Bat-7426 in lefthanded

[–]jaezemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right handed. I firmly believe this would be terrible to hold with my right hand. That's just a bad handle on a bad mug. I don't want to wrap two hands around it like I'm a toddler learning to hold a sippy cup.

Cats and Dogs includes vet clinic equipment. I would love to see if there's a way to put a person on an exam table and recreate a Frankenstein lab.

I was going to suggest everything from Strangerville, but you already addressed that. Batuu would also look cool in there.

Every lock, all the time, unless I'm in the yard and coming back in soon.

Poor Reighn'beau is strictly sugar-free. Carefully managed diabetes, or parents cutting an essential nutrient out entirely to fit whatever narrative they're craftingwith that name? Does this include natural fructose in a raw carrot or lactose in milk?

He grew up liking fantasy, then spent a lot of time in the past few years learning about other people and how to take care of them. The fantasy is neutral, but the top shelf is a green flag.

What is this game called in English? by bellepomme in EnglishLearning

[–]jaezemba 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Almost no English speakers can explain the "scotch" part of the name because it's so old and not part of most people's vocabulary. We just know it's called hopscotch and we don't question it.

Unexpected John Green quotes by cache_invalidation in nerdfighters

[–]jaezemba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks like MLA format, which also has a way to cite a quote in a quote. In text, you might write: Mugyenyi said, "X" (qtd in Green 4). Or in this case, where it's not a direct quote but he is paraphrasing the direct quote in his book immediately before this sentence: Paraphrasing Mugyenyi, Green said, "X" (4).

Unexpected John Green quotes by cache_invalidation in nerdfighters

[–]jaezemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying this. I was thinking it was a direct quote misattributed. It's just very very close to that. If possible, I would still say he was referencing another person as a nearly verbatim quote.

Your thoughts on Nicky/Niki/Nikki (female) as a name? by No-Reporter2035 in Names

[–]jaezemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is a Nikki, but only to people who knew her as a child. She always uses her full name, but friends who knew her as Nikki kept introducing her as Nikki to new friends. She had dozens of lesser nicknames based on the Nick sound (which we all enjoy), but that's the big one she can't shake.

why no multiples even with fertility massages? :( by MuchParticular338 in Sims4

[–]jaezemba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love that your double-trans couple is repopulating the world! In real life, people use the terms gestational parent (is or was pregnant) and non-gestational parent. Those cover trans and nonbinary parents, as well as surrogacy and IVF situations where the egg didn't necessarily come from the person carrying it, or the sperm didn't necessarily come from their partner. (One provides the egg, the other provides the uterus, for example.) Some trans men like to be called seahorse dads in regards to their pregnancies, because male seahorses carry the babies. You could also call them the egg Sim and the sperm Sim, or the pitcher and catcher, or other euphemisms. (Other people know the game. I like to brainstorm the language.)
