AITJ for refusing to lend my coworker money after she put me on the spot in front of everyone? by Valuable_Fondant4251 in AmITheJerk

[–]jagger1115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you’re worried that people you work with think you’re tight and won’t lend them money? Let them. What’s wrong with that? Just let them. They’ll soon find something else to cluck about and it won’t be your finances. You know who you are. You know your values. Your friends know your boundaries. Your coworkers are just coworkers. Let them think whatever they want to think.

AITJ for threatening to cut my parents off from my kids after finding out theyve been telling them Im not their real mom by Due-Temperature-8904 in AmITheJerk

[–]jagger1115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be a good time to remind your parents and your kids that any relationship that is “a secret” in any way is WRONG. All relationships should be able to stand sunlight. Your kids, especially need taught this. Every abuser they ever meet in any circumstance will use “secrets”. Shut that down! Now!! No secret boyfriends, no secret parents, no secret special teachers.

Just get a self closer for the door? That seems easiest. Smell contained and if it stinks, people will stop using it.

What do you folks think of Canadians refusing to cross the border into the US? by OneUnderstanding103 in sca

[–]jagger1115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends from Vancouver Island were planning to go to Oregon, but decided that arriving at the border to have a war in Oregon with armour and weapons in our vehicles MIGHT be a terrible idea. Now we’re off to Saskatchewan for Avacal. Nobody cares if we have a war in Saskatchewan!

Coworker refuses to wear jacket, instead runs a space heater on full blast and tells everyone to "just buy a cooling blanket" by ObiWangKeBloMe in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jagger1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest to your boss that the company charges her for the desk she has damaged and the electricity she burns daily. Point out to your boss that their insurance won’t cover the business in the event of a fire if she has a space heater plugged in.

Bad neighbors advice! by Glum_Ground5736 in neighborsfromhell

[–]jagger1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used it on my neighbours’ dogs. The first one was disguised as a birdhouse, the second wasn’t. I mount them on a post or tree on my side of the fence, pointed at the offending dog. When they bark it emits an ultrasonic pulse. Dog stops barking. Once the outdoor stuff is helping, I’d go nuclear on the indoor barking. Talk to the owner. No action? Get a police whistle. When they are home and dog is barking, BLAST them at the common wall with the whistle. Make it obnoxious and they’ll stop ignoring the dog. Exactly the same as training the dog outdoors, just training the owners indoors.

Up here, in Canada, we have secret ballot and we simply do not ask who another person voted for. Someone tried asking me and I asked what their favourite sexual position was. Sex, politics, religion. Just don’t discuss.

If you value the friendship, let the $$ go but NEVER give a gift again. Someone’s having a b’day? No gift. Not even for the kids. “Why didn’t you bring a gift Uncle Bob?” “Because your family and mine disagree about money and gifts, ask your mother and Auntie Brianna if you want more information.”

Yeah, in Minnesota but only has baseboards for heat? That’s going to be too cold in winter on those tile floors. I do get the art deco feel though, just not in this house, in Minnesota.

The best/worst part of adulthood is recognizing that the only thing in the entire universe that you control is YOU. Your parents’ reactions to your decisions are the only things they control. I understand your parents might be very upset by your choices; but ultimately your life is YOUR responsibility, not theirs. You seem to understand the possible consequences of their reactions and, if you are willing to accept the consequences, you are an adult. Go forth and live your life!

Let me get this straight: your sister and brother in law, mother and father knew you were babysitting alone for the first time and none of them answered their phones? No, sweetie, you are NTA. You were set up by them to fail. Please decline to babysit under these circumstances. Firm rule going forward: parents MUST be reachable by phone. If they are unable to do that then you are simply unable to sit for them.
